UPPER MORELAND 11, HATBORO-HORSHAM 10
In a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle, the Golden Bears – thanks to back-to-back goals by Reagan Cummins in a one-minute span – rallied to knot the score 10-10 with 90 seconds remaining.
Cummins wasn’t finished yet, and with 18 seconds remaining in regulation, she found the net to give UM a one-goal lead, but the excitement was hardly over.
“Hatboro-Horsham won the next draw and drove to goal,” UM coach Kim Frantz said. “They were able to get an 8-meter shot, and Emma Hurley came up with a huge save, got a piece of the ball which sent it out of bounds, and time ran out. This game was a battle to the last second.”
There were early signs this was going to be a good one.
“Both teams played hard and fought for every ball,” Frantz said. “No matter the score, both UM and Hatboro played with heart.
“UM started off strong with a 3-0 lead in the beginning of the game. Hatboro battled back with four unanswered goals to take the lead 4-3. By the end of the half, UM came back with two goals to end the first half 5-4.
“Hatboro came out strong in the second half to where we found ourselves losing 8-5. We were struggling to connect on attack, and every mistake we made Hatboro capitalized on it. In the last six minutes of the game, we were down by three goals. We never gave up, we were struggling with some of the basics at times, but eventually we were back on track with Reagan Cummins scoring two goals within a minute to take the score to 10-10.”
Cummins four-goal, two-assist effort led the Golden Bears. Annalise Messina had three goals, two assists and five draw controls. Scoring one goal each were Isabel Leiter, Charlotte James, Willow Taylor and Heidi Wittick. Taylor also had a pair of assists and Leiter had one assist. Wittick led UM with six draw controls. Olivia Meakim had one assist.
“I knew this was going to be a battle coming into this game, and our returners from last year frequently reminded all the players of our loss to Hatboro last year in overtime,” Frantz said. “They were motivated to play the full game and not go to overtime.
“Reagan Cummins had a phenomenal game and really brought us back in the game in the last five minutes. Annalise Messina – aside from her three goals and two assists – had some very key draw controls for us when we needed them the most.
“Heidi Wittick was solid on the draws and in the midfield. Our defense communicated really well today and worked hard to stay together as a unit. Our players on the sideline were our biggest supporters and kept the team going, especially at the end of the game. It was a whole team effort today.”
For the Hatters, Abby Roesing scored four goals and assisted on another. Caitlyn Carpenter had three goals and two assists. Lydia Nolan contributed two goals, and Sophia Liott had one goal and one assist.
Upper Moreland (6-1, 2-0 SOL) will host Cheltenham on Wednesday, and Hatboro-Horsham (2-4, 1-2) will host Quakertown on Tuesday.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 10, SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 7
Monday’s game didn’t start out on a very promising note for the Colonials, but they rallied from an early deficit to earn the conference win in the tightly contested battle.
“It was a good game that went back and forth,” PW coach Ellen Reilly said. “Springfield went up 3-0 to start the game. We settled down and scored the next seven goals.
“It was good defense that created Springfield turnovers and some good saves for goalie Aniya Bond.”
The Colonials took that 7-3 lead into halftime and fought off the Spartans in the second half.
“It continued to go back and forth after halftime,” Reilly said. “We had a few turnovers that led to Springfield goals.
“Both teams traded goals, but at the seven-minute mark, PW held Springfield scoreless for five minutes with terrific man-to-man defense. Our low defenders played excellent today – Lonna Buono, Ella Clark, Kaylin Smyth and Katie Lukens played great. Our middies – Bri Austin, Meghan Wendler and Brianna Reynolds – did a great job at the midfield, fighting for the draw.”
Austin led the Colonials’ attack with four goals and one assist. Reynolds added two goals and one assist, and Wendler had one goal and two assists. Gigi Tone, Olivia Reilly and Rhianna Gooneratne each had one goal.
For the Spartans, Emma Yoder had four goals, Fiona Rizzo had a goal and two assists, and Sam McDevitt and Emily Smith both had one goal.
“We had zero subs for this game, which was really difficult,” Springfield coach Marissa Conover said. “There were so many turnovers for both teams – the middies were workhorses for the entire game.
“I’m proud of our effort throughout the game. We never gave up. Not having eight members of our team was really tough, and we are proud of our girls.”
Plymouth Whitemarsh (3-1, 2-0 SOL) will travel to Quakertown on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. contest. Springfield Township (3-4, 1-1) will host New Hope-Solebury on Wednesday.

Abington (3-3, 2-0 SOL) is off until next Monday when the Ghosts will travel to Springfield Township. Quakertown (1-4, 0-2) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
