Upper Dublin 8, Abington 6
A strong first quarter gave the host Cardinals a lead they would carry throughout Thursday’s win.
Freshman Bridget DiMartile paced UD with four goals, adding four draw controls and a caused turnover. Junior Anna DiMartile notched two goals, five draw controls and four caused turnovers to round out a productive day for the team’s sister act.
“It is always a tough game against Abington and today was no different. We were able to jump out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and then we traded goals the rest of the game,” UD coach Dee Cross said. “Their
goalie made us work on every shot and made some point-blank saves. Our midfield and defense came up with some key turnovers and helped us to keep possession at the end of the fourth quarter.”
Also, for the Cards, Mads McManus and Paige Dinkel each scored a goal, Dinkel adding a draw control with Ava Shohen playing a facilitating role with three assists, two draw controls and a caused turnover.
Goalie Erin Darcy helped preserve the win with four saves in goal.
Abington was paced by two goals apiece from Piper McGinley and Katie Pennekamp. Addison Doyle and Nora Luskin each netted one for the Ghosts.
Upper Dublin (8-0, 3-0 SOL) is off until Thursday when the Cardinals will be on the road at Wissahickon. Abington (4-4, 3-1 SOL) will host William Tennent on Wednesday.
