Abington High School hosted the Hatboro-Horsham Hatters in the first league game of the season for both teams. Prior to the start of the contest, both the players on the field as well as the fans in the stands joined together to sing the national anthem due to microphone issues in an interesting, but heartwarming fashion.
The Hatters jumped out to an early 3-1 lead off the back of two goals by Sydney Rausa and a single goal by Gabby Acker. The Galloping Ghosts rallied back to an 8-4 halftime lead based on 27 first half shots and two goals from both Emma Garg and Casey McCallister. The second half was a one-sided story as Abington dominated the possession as well as the run of play with a commanding 7-3 second half.
Abington finished the game with 43 total shots as well as 18 face-offs won. On the score sheet for the Hatters was Sydney Rausa with three goals, three goals from Gabby Acker, a single goal from Carly Daley, and an assist by Morgan Crostarosa.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 18, PENNRIDGE 7

“Every single player contributed and we played as a entire unit,” South coach Janique Craig said. “We had some beautiful double teams that created a lot of caused turnovers. I was also very happy with our transitions, cuts and ball movement.

Bri O’Donnell was close to unstoppable, scoring six goals and added three assists in a huge offensive performance for the Maidens, who rallied from a 5-4 halftime deficit to outscore the visiting Patriots 8-4 in the second half.
“It was the perfect matchup for her,” coach Heather Mellow said of her diminutive offensive weapon. “They had some bigger girls playing against her, and she would either draw a foul that put her in a good position or she was just ducking under them and going right around them.
“She’s small and quick, and they couldn’t stop her.”
Another key was the Maidens’ ability to control the draw – they won 17 with Chloe Novak accounting for 10 of those.
“Chloe Novak was getting the draws, and when she didn’t get them, someone else was,” said Mellow. “It was a nice overall team effort again.”
The Maidens were down a player for six minutes, the result of yellow cards, but defenders Emily Suzuki, Mikayla Barrow, Brynne Schoppe, Hannah Alexander and Kaitlyn Varilla limited the Patriots to just one goal during that span.
“We went defensive heavy when we went man down,” Mellow said. “I made sure we had four defenders in there.
“Emily Suzuki is basically our voice back there, and she does a great job. Mikayla Barrow does a great job back there, but by the second half, I moved her to offense because they were focusing on Jenn DeLongis and double teamed her every time she touched the ball.
“This was a much better performance for my team. We’ve had some really good performances, but they’d melt down for short periods. This was a good performance. They’ve been really hungry for a big win. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. We only beat them 8-7 last year, so I knew they were going to be a good game again.”
Also for the Maidens, Julia Keffer gave the attack a lift with four assists. Kaitlyn Phifer added two goals and Victoria Brauenle had one goal and one assist. Contributing one goal each were Jenn DeLongis, Sam Tossona and Mikayla Barrow. Novak chipped in an assist.
For the Patriots, Whitney Dietz had a hat trick in a strong performance. Riley Donnelly, according to coach Kelly White, also played well, finishing with three goals and one assist. Katelyn Stout had two goals and one assist, and Maggie Vetter added one goal and two assists.
“Sara Donnelly played stellar defensively,” White said.
North Penn goalie Michelle Dyck was credited with eight saves.
“She had some key saves for us,” Mellow said.
Anna Rosenquist turned away 11 of 23 shots she faced for the Patriots.

Meghan Darcy, Chloe Miller-Russo and Katie Holt each added a single goal.
The Bucks opened up an 11-0 halftime lead on their way to the decisive conference win.
“We came out strong and had some more confidence and certainly less turnovers than in other games,” coach Tara Schmucker said. “Bryn Boylan and Meghan Darcy had key roles in helping us get or maintain possession with three draws each and nine and six ground balls respectively.
“Everyone contributed and the connections and execution continues to improve.
