NORTH PENN 19, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 13
The visiting Knights opened up an 11-6 halftime lead and never looked back on their way to a win that upped their record to 3-0 in conference play on the young season.
“We really pulled ourselves together after a rocky game Monday playing CB West – we didn’t play our best that game,” NP coach Heather Mellow said of her team’s 13-7 win over the Bucks. “Today was a big win for us. It was a huge team effort from start to finish. South is always feisty and never gives up, so I am very proud of the composure we kept throughout the game, especially when the game got close a couple of times.”
Senior Alli Lindsay was a catalyst all over the field for the Knights, contributing three goals, assisting on four others and controlling play in the circle with 10 draw controls.
“Alli Lindsay really had a phenomenal game,” Mellow said. “She actually didn’t have a great game against CB West, and today she made up for that tenfold. She really produced on both ends of the field and on draw controls. She was money for us.”
Lindsay wasn’t the only player to step up for the Knights. Emily Varilla contributed four goals, one assist and two draw controls, and Lily Szilagyi had three goals and two assists. Danielle Preston also had a hat trick, and Kayla Stressman added two goals, one assist and four draw controls. Jordan Baily and Riley O’Donnelly both had two goals.
“They face-guarded Lily Szilagyi the majority of the game,” Mellow said. “That’s fine – you can try and shut someone down, but we have quite a few other players on the team that have the ability to score, and they really, really played well, seeing each other in the middle of the eight and finding each other with beautiful passes and goals. They really did a nice job.”
The Knights’ coach also had high praise for her defense comprised of Ella Burget, Laynie Doran, Hannah Mallitz and Grace Macnamara.
“Almost all South’s goals were scored on free positions,” Mellow said. “Our defense played really, really strong. They did a nice job. It was composure on both ends of the field.
“We still have things to work on, still have tweaks we need to make, but we really played a much better game from start to finish than we did on Monday.”
For the Titans, Kate Victor led the way with four goals while Janessa Watson added a hat trick. Bridget Curtis, Tegan Mullan and Grace Gannon each had two goals.
North Penn (4-1, 3-0 SOL) will host Strath Haven in a non-league game Friday, and Central Bucks South (2-5, 2-1) will travel to Council Rock North on Monday.

SOUDERTON 17, BENSALEM 6
The Indians received contributions up and down their lineup on the way to their fifth win of the season without a loss.
“Twelve different players recorded points today, and that speaks volumes to what we’ve been doing in practice,” coach Claudia LaMarca said. “We’ve focused this week on being more intentional when feeding, cutting and getting creative on offense. You can see how much fun the girls have when they’re working together and creating on attack. We’re excited about this adjustment, and excited about the growth we’re continuing to see each day.
“Bensalem tested our composure in between the 30’s – they were tough, and they won important draws and capitalized off of the 8 meter opportunities they had.”
The list of players contributing points for the Indians is a long one. Reiley Knize led the attack with three goals and three assists, and Ang Borisow added three goals and an assist. “Brenna Craig came up huge in the net with nice saves and kept us in the game,” Pennridge coach Karen Feher said of her goalie. “This team is really starting to find their rhythm and work together as one unit. It was closer than we wanted and still have the ‘little things’ to work on, but it was an all-out team effort.”

If the Lions needed a wake-up call, they got it when Maddie Yoder scored three straight goals to spot the Spartans an early 3-0 lead.
“They came out strong, and she scored three goals in the first 10 minutes,” NHS coach Betsy Dougherty said. “I called timeout and said, ‘Did anyone notice that 22 just scored three goals?’ She’s a pretty strong lefty, but then we closed her down until later in the second half.”
The Lions still found themselves on the short end of a 6-4 score at halftime but rallied to knot the score 8-8 with under five minutes remaining, and with less than two minutes, Madie Thistlewaite scored a goal that turned out to be the game-winner, using a Kate Dougherty assist.
“They had the ball, and we had a defensive stop and brought it down, called a timeout, set up a play which worked,” Dougherty said. “That was a great goal.
“There was about two minutes left, and it was a back and forth possession. They got the ball with a minute left, and they were on their way down to score, and (Kate Dougherty) ended up intercepting a pass and we stalled out the rest of the time. It was competitive the whole way through. Both defenses played really well. The goalie for Springfield played really well.”
Dougherty lauded the play of her defensive unit comprised of Juliana Covino, Sam Kruopas, Kat Thistlewaite and Reagan Chrencik who limited the Spartans to just two goals in the second half.
“They have some pretty strong attackers, and we double teamed them really well and shut them down,” Dougherty said. “Those four were stellar. They really did a great job, and that was the difference maker.”
Thistlewaite led the Lions’ attack with a hat trick while Dougherty had two goals and two assists, and Emma Ives had a pair of goals. Rachel Saxton contributed a goal and an assist, and Lilly Smith had a goal.
For the Spartans, Yoder led the way with five goals, and Lauren Corrado had four assists. Emma Yoder contributed two goals and one assist while Ella Marino had one goal and one assist.
