National Conference
Central Bucks East 13, Bensalem 7
Central Bucks East goalkeeper Abby DiAmico turned aside 9 shots to deny Bensalem its first league win of the season as the Patriots took a 13-7 victory over the Owls in Tuesday’s National Conference game.
“Abby DiAmico played incredible in the net today,” said East coach Maggie Stella.
Paige Dougherty led the Patriots with 6 goals and 1 assist, Paige Keller had 3 goals and 1 assist, Natalie Berndt scored twice and assisted on another, Avery Stephenson and Amanda Ries each netted 1 goal, and McKenna Lynch, Megan Fahey, and Cece Hayes each registered 1 assist.
Keller scooped up 3 ground balls for East, Nicolette Satterfield had 2, and Berndt, Fahey, Hayes, Stephenson, and Kayla Matlack each picked up 1.
“It was a beautiful day for lacrosse, followed by an awesome team effort,” Stella said. “I told my team every game we grow, as long as we continue to adjust as we move forward. Paige Dougherty, Cece Hayes, Paige Keller, Avery Stephenson, Emma Weisel, and Natalie Berndt all worked hard within the midfield transition to move the ball efficiently. Nicolette Satterfield and Bella DeHaven have been working really well as leaders on the defensive end. Our attack was moving the ball and running our attacking sets.”
East (1-0 National Conference, 4-3 overall) will host Neshaminy at 7 pm tonight on Senior Day.
“We are looking forward to our Senior Day, because we have two pretty incredible leaders we are looking forward to celebrating,” Stella said.
Bensalem falls to 0-3, 3-3, and will host North Penn at 3:30 pm today.
Nonleague
Plymouth Whitemarsh 13, West Chester Rustin 12
West Chester Rustin would not go away. Despite Plymouth Whitemarsh building several multiple-goal leads throughout the game, Rustin continued to press, and knotted the game late in the fourth quarter.
A crucial possession off the draw allowed the Colonials to net the go-ahead goal on Meghan Wendler’s third of the game, then PW controlled the ensuing draw to run out the clock and earn a hard-fought 13-12 victory in Tuesday’s nonleague matchup.
“This was a great team win,” said PW coach Ellen Reilly. “Midfielders Bri Reynolds, Maite Jayo, and Kaiane Jayo led the way gaining possession of the draws, which led to offensive opportunities.
“Defensively, we contained Jordyn Krafchick, who is a D1 commit who has been scoring a lot of goals for them.”
Maite Jayo led the Colonials’ attack with 4 goals. Bri Reynolds and Soph Gartland each scored twice, Kaiane Jayo had 1 goal and 2 assists, and Grace Kerns scored once.
With the victory, the Colonials improve to 5-2 overall (1-2 in American Conference play). They are back in action today, visiting New Hope-Solebury for a 3:30 pm game.
