Non-league
UPPER MORELAND 17, ARCHBISHOP WOOD 2
Annalise Messina – only a junior – hit another milestone in Tuesday’s non-league game, connecting on the 200th goal of a dazzling high school career.
“Today, we celebrate the win, but also celebrate the 200-goal milestone for Annalise Messina,” UM coach Kim Frantz said. “A year ago, when we played Archbishop Wood, she reached her 100-goal milestone, and here we are a year later against Wood again for her to reach her 200-goal milestone.
“Annalise is an incredibly hard worker both on and off the lacrosse field. She has put in countless hours well beyond practice times to be this successful and is a good example of hard work is really worth it.”
Messina turned in another standout effort, finishing with five goals, four assists, three caused turnovers and eight draw controls. Willow Taylor also had a big game, contributing three goals, four assists, two caused turnovers and one draw control. Also delivering a strong outing was Keira Hess with three goals, two forced turnovers and one draw control.
Olivia Meakim had a five-point game and was a key to the Bears’ potent offense, scoring two goals and assisting on three others. Molly Meakim and Maggie Morrow both had one goal and one assist. Charlie Clement added a goal and three caused turnovers while Ella Gould had one goal, and Keiley Hawk had two draw controls.
Addi Hurley was credited with eight saves in a winning effort in goal for UM.
“In the game today, we had eight different players part of our scoring,” Frantz said. “We are coming together as a team, and our defense is getting stronger each game.
“Addi Hurley had some key saves, especially on some free 8m shots.”
Upper Moreland (4-1) will travel to Plymouth Whitemarsh for Thursday’s SOL opener.
