WISSAHICKON 18, NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 6
The inclement weather won out, and Wednesday’s SOL opener was halted because of lightning and thunder but not before the two teams played three full quarters – enough to constitute a legal game.
“The conditions at game time were less than idea, but I was really proud of the team’s energy and all-around effort,” Wissahickon coach Chuck Wurzbach said.
Alexa McCabe scored nine goals and assisted on three others to lead the Trojans’ attack in the abbreviated win. She also had a caused turnover. Lila Marciniak added four goals, one assist, three draw controls and one ground ball.
Emma Greenberg contributed two goals, two draw controls and one caused turnover while Maddie Radell also had a pair of goals. Sophia Stehlik added one goal, three draw controls and two ground balls, Sam Farno had one goal, one assist, three caused turnovers and one ground ball, and Chloe Acuna was credited with two caused turnovers and one ground ball.
“Emma Greenberg reminded the team before the game to have fun and then led by example when she produced two nice goals and was the key to our transition game,” Wurzbach said. “We made some really good defensive stops (8 caused turnovers in total), Chloe Acuna took two charges which fired up the team. Kaylee Hammond and Sam Farno did a nice job of anticipating passes inside the 8m and getting to them first.
“Lex McCabe and Lila Marciniak push the pace offensively, and both were able to score and feed their teammates. It was fun to watch them both play today.”
Wissahickon goalie Tatum Rurhen was credited with three saves in the win.
For the Lions, Maddie Thistlewaite had a pair of goals.
Wissahickon (5-1, 1-0 SOL) will host Pennsbury in a non-league game Friday, and New Hope-Solebury (2-2, 0-1) will be on the road at Neshaminy for a non-league game Friday.
