American Conference
Abington 11, Upper Dublin 9
Coming off of back-to-back league losses, Abington needed to rebound in a big way.
“I think our morale was a little low coming off our New Hope loss (11-10), and my biggest thing about the Wissahickon game, I was upset that we didn’t score at all in the second half,” said Abington coach Amalie Kreitman of her team’s 13-5 loss. “We definitely needed this.”
It didn’t look good early, as Upper Dublin picked up the first two goals of the game, but the Ghosts battled back to take the lead and withstood every Cardinal attempt to knot the score as Abington earned an 11-9 victory in Friday’s American Conference game.
“We started off strong and got an early lead, but Abington controlled the draw and we just could not establish momentum in the second half,” said Cardinal coach Dee Cross. “We would get within one, and then turn the ball over or miss a shot, and Abington took advantage of every ground ball today.”
Maddie Hinkle scored 4 goals to lead the Ghosts, Lesha Karaba recorded a hat trick, and Shea Gormley and Piper McGinley added 2 each.
Goalie Chole Herghelegiu made 7 saves to earn the win for Abington.
“It was another great game of lacrosse. Our defense showed up today. Everyone was a key player,” said Kreitman, who noted the outstanding efforts of defenders Lilly Alessandro, Audrey Silverman, Caroline Hughes, and Zoe Freedman. “Not only was our defense there, our attack was there. The only thing we struggled in today was transition. Upper Dublin’s transition is beautiful. They have a really nice transition. They can move that ball up and down that field.”
Kreitman also praised the efforts of Mei Mei Cheng in the midfield.
“She hustled to everything today,” the Ghosts’ coach said.
Aditi Foster led Upper Dublin with 3 goals and 3 assists. Jenn McCarry scored 3, and Kelly Senior, Ella Lyon, and Maisie Hanson each added 1 goal. Riley Brady made 9 saves for the Cardinals.
With the win, the Ghosts improve to 1-2 in American Conference play, 2-3 overall, and will face another big test when they visit Plymouth Whitemarsh at 3:30 pm Monday. Upper Dublin drops to 4-1, 5-6, and will host Cheltenham at 3:30 pm Monday.
Wissahickon 17, William Tennent 0
Emma Baker did it all, racking up 5 goals, 4 assists, 6 draw controls, 1 interception, and 3 ground balls as American Conference frontrunner remained undefeated on the season with a dominating 17-0 victory.
Abby DeGroat scored 4 goals with 1 assist, 6 draw controls, and 2 ground balls for the Trojans. Lexi Hobson had 1 goal, 1 assist, 3 ground balls, 1 draw control, and 1 caused turnover. Alena Doll scored twice and Chloe Acuna, Emmi Gordon, Gianna Maiale, and Rylie Slobotkin each scored 1 goal. Quinn Gaffey had 3 assists for the Trojans, who improve to 7-0 American, 12-0 overall. Wissahickon will visit Upper Moreland for a 3:30 pm Monday game. Tennent falls to 0-5 and will host Hatboro-Horsham at 3:30 pm Monday.

Sara Asmann added 2 goals and Tori Finnegan scored once for the Lions, who improve to 4-6 overall (2-4 American Conference), and will visit Springfield Twp. At 3:30 pm Monday. Neshaminy falls to 1-10, 1-6, and will host Central Bucks South at 3:30 pm Monday.

Thursday, April 29
Springfield 14, Central Bucks South 9
Springfield led 8-7 at halftime and held National Conference frontrunner Central Bucks South to 2 goals in the second half to pull away for a 14-9 victory in Thursday’s nonleague matchup.
Maddie Yoder led the Spartan attack with 9 goals, while Tess Talbot turned aside 15 South shots to earn the win in the cage.
“Maddie, of course, had another strong game, scoring from fast breaks from the draws she won herself,” said Springfield coach Marissa Conover of her senior standout. “Tess Talbot had another incredible game, she’s the backbone of our team. I’m so proud of my girls.
“Molly McGoldrick and the rest of our defense read the other team and became aggressive. Molly was having incredible checks throughout and putting on pressure to cause turnovers. Ella Marino showed her lacrosse IQ in this game and was able to read where the players were going or planned to go and continually won any ball that fell to the ground. She would swoop in from out of nowhere.”
Marino also contributed 2 goals and 3 assists, while Fiona Rizzo scored twice and added 1 assist, Emma Yoder had 1 goal and 1 assist, Sam McDevitt chipped in with 1 goal, and Annie Coll dished out 1 assist.
Springfield Township (8-3, 4-2 SOL) will host Lower Moreland on Monday, and Central Bucks South (5-8, 5-1) will be on the road at Neshaminy on Monday.
