SOL American Conference
UPPER MORELAND 11, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 5
The Golden Bears trailed the visiting Colonials 4-3 at halftime but turned in an inspired second-half performance, outscoring their visitors 8-1 to earn the conference win.
“We started off slow, but really came out strong in the second half,” UM coach Kim Frantz said. “Almost 11 minutes passed, before the first goal was scored by PW. It really was a scoreless defensive battle by both teams to start the game.
“PW went ahead by two goals with 13 minutes left in the first half. UM was able to battle back to eventually score a goal by Maggie Morrow to make it a 3-3 tie until PW took the lead to end the first half. In the first half, we weren’t winning enough draws as PW was controlling a lot of the draws, but we were really able to turn up our game in the second half which started with winning some draws”
Annalise Messina once again led UM, scoring five goals and assisting on three others. Olivia Meakim added a hat trick while Reagan Cummins had one goal and one assist. Adding one goal each were Willow Taylor and Maggie Morrow. Allison LaRocco and Isabel Leiter both had two assists.
“Coming out big on the draw for us was Annalise Messina (6) and Allison LaRocco (4),” Frantz said. “Jenna Piantieri also came out with a key draw control when we really needed the momentum to switch.
“Our defense, led by Cambrie Richmond, Avary Adamski, Charlotte James, and Kellen Distel, played really tough today and kept control of the game. They really kept us in the game, especially in the first half. In the second half we were able to score quickly, and PW answered back less than a minute later. After that we were able to really turn up our game and score six unanswered goals (Olivia Meakim, Willow Taylor, Annalise Messina, and Reagan Cummins) helping us gain more confidence with each goal as the game progressed. Assisting those goals included Isabel Leiter, Allison LaRocco, Annalise Messina, and Reagan Cummins.
“Part of being able to make sure PW didn’t score was Addi Hurley having some phenomenal saves in the last 10 minutes of the game. She really helped us to keep the momentum in our direction. PW is always a tough team and competitor, we always respect their game, but try to just play our game and that is exactly what we were able to do today to pull out the win.”
Hurley was credited with eight saves in the win.
For the Colonials, Meghan Wendler scored two goals. Adding one goal each were Bri Reynolds, Sophia Gartland and Olivia Reilly. Olivia Eaton had two assists.
“It was a very sloppy game with both teams having trouble transitioning the ball, making turnovers and not really being settled on attack at both ends,” PW coach Ellen Reilly said. “PW led at halftime. In the second half, we created too many turnovers on the offensive end, and we had two yellow cards. Upper Moreland capitalized on our mistakes and got a four-goal lead that we couldn’t recover from.”
Reilly lauded the play of several of her defenders.
“Kai Jayo had four caused turnovers,” the PW coach said. “Katie Luken, Kaylin Smyth and Anna McNichol played well defensively.”
Upper Moreland (4-2, 2-1 SOL) will host Interboro in a non-league contest Thursday at noon, and Plymouth Whitemarsh (0-4,0-2) is off until Wednesday, April 12, when the Colonials will travel to William Tennent.

QUAKERTOWN 9, SOUDERTON 8 (OT)
The Panthers made a bit of history Tuesday night, defeating Souderton in an overtime thriller for the program’s first ever win over the Indians. Quakertown had been on the short end of some lopsided scores to the Indians, including – according to coach Tracy Hibsman – a 28-0 beatdown before her coaching staff took over.
“It was nice to win 9-8 tonight,” Hibsman said. “First time in history of our program.”
A goal by Madison Taylor with 20 seconds remaining in the first overtime propelled the Panthers to the dramatic win.
Katelyn Derstine’s five goals led the Panthers’ attack. Cameron Hagerty added two while Ciara Mory and Taylor each added one goal.
“Quakertown had the lead by one-two goals all game,” Hibsman said. “Goalie Grace Stout had an incredible game, making 12 saves.
“The draw controls were about 50 percent in our favor. Our defense helped keep the team in the lead with 13 steals. Souderton tied it up late in the game to take us to OT. Madison Taylor gained possession off the draw from Mya Hibsman in OT, and Quakertown controlled the ball until the final goal.”
For the Indians, Ang Borisow had four goals and four draw controls. Tatum Andrews added two goals, one assist and one draw control. Avery Farina contributed a goal and two assists while Anah Petrovich had one goal, Carly Gavetti had two assists, and Ava Shaw added one assist.
Also for the Indians, Ella Longacre had three draw controls while Day Long and Hannah Cornes each had one.
Souderton goalie Gabby Hirschman was credited with five saves.
Quakertown (2-4, 1-1 SOL) will travel to Springfield Township next Wednesday, April 12. Souderton (0-5, 0-2) will travel to Lower Moreland for a non-league game next Tuesday.
