Check out the recaps for SOL girls’ lacrosse teams in action Tuesday.
Non-league
UPPER MORELAND 16, BENSALEM 5
Tuesday’s non-league win was a team effort for the Golden Bears, who saw 10 different players contribute to the scoring.
Isabel Leiter led a balanced attack with four goals and one assist. Olivia Meakim, Reagan Cummins and Kat Morrow each had a pair. Morrow also had a team high four assists while Cummins also chipped in with an assist. Adding one goal each were Charlotte James, Maddy Trzaska, Willow Taylor, Allison LaRocco, Bree Knox and Maggie Morrow. Trzaska and Knox also both had an assist.
“Each game we grow a little more as a team and our ability to play together,” UM coach Kim Frantz said. “This was another great team effort with 10 different players scoring goals and five players having at least one assist. We are excited to play our first conference game tomorrow against Lower Moreland.”
Upper Moreland (2-0) will travel to Lower Moreland for Wednesday’s SOL opener. Bensalem (1-2) will travel to Pennsbury for Wednesday’s league opener.
SOUDERTON 14, ABINGTON 13
The Indians opened up a 9-5 halftime lead and then withstood a furious second-half comeback by the Ghosts, who twice knotted the score (11-11 and 12-12).
“Abington scored a goal in the last four seconds of the first half, and I think that gave them a lot of momentum going into the second half,” Souderton coach Claudia Lamarca said. “Draw-wise, we didn’t win as many as we needed to for possession in the second half, so that hurt us.
“This is definitely the first time this team has ever been in a situation where they’ve been in down-to-the-wire tested in that kind of situation, and they pulled off the ending great. We’ve been talking a lot about composure and staying calm during the crazy, and I think the end of that game showed them the importance of that, and they definitely felt that.”
Reiley Knize and Lauren Kenah both turned in stellar offensive outings. Knize, who scored the final and game-winning goal, played a role in six goals, scoring four and adding a pair of assists while Kenah had five goals. Lauren Hallman contributed a hat trick. Both Clark Trowbridge and Sydney Rohrbach contributed one goal.
“Reiley Knize had a huge game, Lauren Kenah had five goals,” Lamarca said. “Lauren Hallman is also such a strong player for us. She creates a lot, and even though she didn’t end up scoring the most amount of goals, she definitely gets the defense moving.
“Both of our goalies – Tegan Farina and Courtney Mallon – played lights out, came up with huge, huge saves, momentum-changing saves.”
Although the Ghosts came up short on the scoreboard, they received big offensive performances from several players. Lesha Karaba and Maddie Hinkle both contributed five goals while Shea Gormely had a hat trick.
Chloe Herghelegiu recorded five saves in goal for the Ghosts.
Souderton (2-0) will travel to Central Bucks South for Wednesday’s opener, and Abington (0-1) will be on the road at Upper Dublin Wednesday.
