CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 6, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 5 (OT)
An inspired Rock North squad raced to a 5-1 lead and appeared poised to pull an upset of the first place Titans, but the Titans’ defense turned it up a notch and did not allow the Indians to score the rest of the way.
“My defense played great,” Rock North coach Krista Dayton-Ventresca said. “If you asked coach (Janique) Craig, the reason they had trouble with us was because they had so many turnovers.
“I contend the reason they had trouble with us was because my defense played excellently. We had a game plan, and we executed it. In the first half, we possessed the ball, the offense had their way, and the defense made that possible.”
Sparked by the play of senior co-captain Courtney Dietzel, who was a difference maker, the Titans outscored the Indians 4-0 in the second half, setting the stage for overtime where Kristen Berntsen won it, connecting for her second goal of the contest.
“In the second half, they pressured our attack, and my attack is young,” Dayton-Ventresa said. “I have three freshmen who start and one sophomore. Our young attack had trouble handling their pressure in the second half. Our goal scorers got pushed too far out. Their defense dictated the game the second half.
“In overtime, it was just who got the draw, who got the shot, who gets the goal. I give all the credit to my defense for holding them to six goals, and my goalie for holding them to six goals and to my attack for controlling the game. We gave them a heck of a game, and I’m really proud of my girls. It could have gone either way.”
Goalie Margaret D’Auria kept the Indians in it the entire way, turning away 12 of the 18 shots she faced for a dazzling .667 save percentage. Anchoring the defense once again were Lauren D’Amelia, Greta Rolli, Maddie Humes, Cara DePalo and Gabby Shepherd.
The Indians suffered a major setback when D’Amelia went down with a knee injury with 15 minutes remaining in the second half and did not return.
“That was huge,” Dayton-Ventresca said. “She’s our defensive anchor.”
Claire Jarema’s three-goal effort led the Indians. Devon Mela and Megan Haggerty both added one goal. Anna Lehman and Rolli each contributed one assist.
Central Bucks South (10-1, 7-0 SOL) will host Southern Lehigh in a non-league contest on Wednesday while Council Rock North (7-4, 5-2) will host Emmaus in a non-league game on Tuesday.

PENNRIDGE 12, HATBORO-HORSHAM 10
The Lady Rams had some business to take care of when the Hatters came to town for a non-league contest Monday night. Maddie Dachowski needed just two goals to reach the 100-goal milestone. The junior midfielder scored her team’s’ first goal of the night and then found the net for the fourth goal of a 6-0 Pennridge tear at the 12:36 mark of the first half, and it was mission accomplished.
“Maddie had it planned out,” teammate Jen Rodzewich said. “She planned it out the last couple of games.”
Dachowski didn’t disagree.
“We were kind of doing the countdown,” the junior midfielder said. “I wanted to save it for a home game because we’ve had a lot of away games.”
Both Dachowski and Rodzewich certainly did their part to make sure it was a good night for their squad. Dachowski was part of nine Pennridge goals, scoring four and assisting on five others, while Rodzewich had four goals and one assist.
Coach Karen Schnurr was not surprised to see Dachowski reach the milestone with a standout all-around effort.
“Maddie is a great player,” the Rams’ coach said. “She has a great shot, but she looks for her teammates.
“She sees the cutters, she sees the entire field, and she’s good on the timing of the cutters. She definitely did a good job of moving the ball fast on attack and seeing the other girls, and that was huge.”
The Hatters took an early 2-0 lead, thanks to the Gabby to Gwyn Acker connection. The Lady Rams began their comeback after the Hatters received back-to-back yellow cards and found themselves down a pair of players. Goals by Dachowski (Rodzewich assist) and Rodzewich in a two-minute span knotted the score.
“They got two quick yellow cards, and we were able to find those open cutters and hit the back of the net,” Schnurr said.
The Lady Rams led 6-2 after a crease roll goal by Rodzewich with 8:21 remaining in the half. Gwyn Acker won the ensuing draw, and moments later, Carly Daley scored, igniting a 4-0 Hatter run that was capped when Syd Rausa – with her back to the goal -picked up a ground ball near the crease and flipped it over her shoulder for the equalizer with 2:58 remaining.
“They’re fast, they’re super, super fast,” Schnurr said. “Two (Rausa) is just like lightening on the field. She’s just so fast.
“I talked to Jen (Rodzewich) and Grace (Loughery) about slowing the ball down in the midfield. That way our defense and our other middies can get back and settle down.”
A Rodzewich takeaway on the defensive end set the stage for another Dachowski goal with 43 seconds remaining in the half, this one with a Casey Hefner assist. The Lady Rams took an 8-6 lead when – with two seconds showing on the scoreboard clock – Loughery turned a Hefner pass into a goal.
Nine minutes into the second half, the Rams led 10-6 after a Loughery goal (Dachowski assist), but the Hatters came roaring back, trimming the Rams’ lead to 10-9 when Daley turned a Gabby Acker pass into a goal with 10 minutes remaining.
Dachowski gave the Rams a two-goal advantage with a goal at the 7:30 mark, and then the Lady Rams began to make a concerted effort to take time off the clock.
“We have been working on that because I knew there would be games like tonight where we would have to kill two or three minutes off the clock,” Schnurr said. “We’ve been working on that in practice, and they did well, but we are usually behind in the second half, trying to chip away. I talked to them and said how nice it is to be up.”
The Rams took a 12-9 lead when Dachowski found Rozewich for a goal with 2:09 remaining. Rausa answered with a goal 30 seconds later, and when the Hatters won the ensuing draw, the Rams made one last defensive stand, which included a big save by goalie Alexa Machado.
“Grace played phenomenal defense on two (Rausa) – at the end there just held her,” Schnurr said. “Two and 11 (Daley) were our biggest threats, and Jennifer and Grace did a nice job of shutting them down with all the other defenders.
“Emily Wentz stepped up with one v ones. The first half we got a little hyped and were trying to force things here and there. I regrouped them and said, ‘Go back to our game plan.’ We just have hustlers, and they want playoffs so bad. We knew that beating Hatboro-Horsham could help our chances.”
Loughery finished with three goals while Hefner added one goal and two assists for the Lady Rams.
The Hatters received big performances from Rausa and Gwyn Acker. Both players finished with four goals. Rausa also had an assist. Daley added two goals while Gabby Acker had three assists.
“Improvement noted,” Hatter coach Marie Schmucker said. “Overall, I think they worked hard.
“I think defensively they did well. In the midfield, we have to work on some of our connections, and even offensively, we need to cut all the way through instead of cutting and stopping. There are a lot of young kids out here that never played. It’s a whole different animal when you’re out there, but definitely seeing improvement. We just have to make fewer mistakes, that’s the bottom line.”
Pennridge (10-5, 4-3 SOL) will be on the road at Neshaminy on Tuesday, and Hatboro-Horsham (3-10, 3-3) will host Upper Dublin on Tuesday.
