SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 7, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 6
Fiona Rizzo scored five goals to lead the visiting Spartans to the hard-fought road win in Tuesday’s non-league contest. With the win, the Spartans upped their record to 12-0.
“Fiona was on fire – when it seemed like everyone was high paced, intense energy, Fiona remained calm with composure in leading the attack,” Springfield Twp coach Marissa Conover said. “She had a standout game and was definitely MVP of this game.”
The outcome of this one was up in the air until the final horn. The Spartans took an early 3-1 lead and still led 3-2 at the intermission. The Golden Hawks knotted the score early in the second half.
“We changed momentum a few times – if they gained a goal or two on us, we would answer with the same one or two goals,” Conover said. “We were ahead by a goal or tied up for most of the game.
“We were able to get the positive energy back on the field in the end of the second half, and after CR South pulled ahead, we tied it and got the lead. They play a pretty high-paced game, and I give them kudos for that. We got our momentum back and had a couple of wonderful goals. Our attack worked hard together.”
In addition to Rizzo, Shannon Meder and Shannon Silvius each had one goal. Maddie McDevitt and Amelia Price both had one assist.
“Maddie McDevitt had great draw controls as always,” Conover said. “We saw her show up in gaining possession for us with ground balls and turnovers.”
The Spartans coach also lauded the play of her defense.
“I’m always proud of Tess (Talbot), who had nine saves at absolutely crucial moments of the game,” Conover said. “I also think our defense showcased its skill today – holding CR South to two goals in the first half and continually showing up while Rock South was attacking – I’m proud of their composure and communication. Emma Yoder held down the fort, letting almost zero dodges from the top.
“It wasn’t a low scoring game today because one team had control. It was low scoring because both teams were continually fighting for control. It was back and forth the entire 50 minutes. There were transitions and turnovers for the entirety of the game. I hope middies from both teams get some rest tonight.”
Springfield Township (12-0, 7-0 SOL) will host New Hope-Solebury on Wednesday, and Council Rock South (10-3, 5-2) will host Council Rock North on Wednesday.

QUAKERTOWN 17, ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHOLIC 16 (OT)
The Panthers won another overtime nailbiter.
Although no one could have predicted the dramatic ending when they fell behind 5-0 early in the contest.
“We started pulling it together, doing the little things right and bringing the halftime score to 8-7, down by only one going into the second half,” Quakertown coach Tracy Hibsman said. “We continued a strong offensive push in the second half.”
The Panthers outscored their visitors 9-8 to knot the score 16-16 at the end of regulation, setting the stage for the dramatic finish.
“Mya Hibsman controlled the OT draw, giving it to Madison Taylor who set up the offense,” Hibsman said. “Cameron Hagerty made a good decision, giving the assist to Ciara Mory who scored the winning goal just 50 seconds into overtime.”
There were plenty of heroes for the Panthers.
“Keys to the win included a strong showing from our defense led by Katie Catalano, Katie Hagerty, Delaney Lamont, and Katelyn Landis,” Hibsman said. “Goalie Grace Stout made some key saves, keeping the team in the game.”
The Panthers coach lauded the play of her offense.
Keira Shaw and Ciara Mory each scored four goals to lead the way, Cameron Hagerty had a hat trick, Casey Rosenberger added two goals, and scoring one apiece were Kate Derstine, Mya Hibsman, Madison Taylor and Kayla Glaeser.
“The Quakertown Panthers are continuing to prove they are a force to be reckoned with with their ‘fight-till-the-end’ efforts,” Hibsman said. “With 30 seconds left, we scored two goals to finish the first half. And to finish the second half of regulation we kept ACC scoreless for the last nearly eight minutes while we put up four to tie the game to push to OT.”
Quakertown (6-8, 4-4 SOL) hopes to carry its momentum into Wednesday’s conference game at Plymouth Whitemarsh (6 p.m.).
