Haverford 9, Upper Dublin 8
The Cardinals trailed 8-5 after one half but rallied to make things interesting, limiting the Fords to just one second-half goal while the Cardinals scored three to pull to within one.
“We knew Haverford was going to be tough, even though their record might not indicate that,” UD coach Dee Cross said. “Every game in the Central League is a battle for them and it showed.
“They were fast and put us on our heels right away. Their goalie was very active. We dug ourselves in a hole in the first half. Once we settled down, we were able to get some good defensive stops and take some good shots to start to gain momentum. We were able to get within one goal in the last six minutes of the game, but we could not finish. We held Haverford scoreless in the fourth quarter and that will be something we can build on from here.”
Paige Dinkel’s four-goal effort led the Cardinals. Bridget DiMartile added two goals, one assist and one caused turnover while Avo Shohen had one goal, one assist, three draw controls and one caused turnover. Lily Bucklus had one goal.
Anna DiMartile led the Cards with five draw controls and also had two caused turnovers. Abby O’Meara and Maeve Hogan both had one assist and one caused turnover, and Taylor Williams had one assist. Mads McManus was credited with two caused turnovers, and Olivia Broome had one caused turnover.
UD goalie Erin Darcy was credited with five saves.
For the Fords, Annie Walker had a hat trick. Ava Pradelli, Kayla Elliot and Hillary Elsner each had two goals.
