WISSAHICKON 4, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 1
The Trojans got three points each from Krysta Memis and Alyssa Ryan, and Maddie Elwell scored the eventual game-winner, as Wissahickon broke up the host Colonials’ previously perfect season.
After Wissahickon had lost the first meeting on Sept. 9 at home to Plymouth Whitemarsh, 3-2, the elation about Wednesday’s payback was too much for Wissahickon head coach Shannon Franke to hide.
“Glorious — to see a team figure it out, I am so proud of this team,” Franke said. “After a great effort going 100 (minutes) at Pennridge (a 1-1 tie Sept. 24), tonight our players figured it out, pushed for 80 (minutes) and got the win.”
For Wissahickon (9-2-1, 8-2 SOL), Memis scored the lone goal of the first half, at 31:22 on an assist from Ryan.
After halftime, Plymouth Whitemarsh (9-1, 9-1 SOL) tied the contest at 52:29 with some help from Wissahickon. Offensive pressure from the Colonials resulted in the ball ending up inadvertently in Wissakickon’s net, as Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Nic Abbott got credit for the goal.
Less than four minutes later, Elwell dribbled up the left side and unleashed a shot from outside the 18-yard box that landed in the back of the net for a 2-1 lead at 56:19.
Ryan also assisted on Memis’ second goal of the match. Ryan’s shot was deflected to Memis, whose volley gave the Trojans a 3-1 advantage at 62:29.
At 74:09, Ryan scored a goal of her own, assisted by Memis to seal the victory.
Wissahickon goalkeeper Keanna Haney made seven of her nine saves in the first half.
Franke also passed around credit to other players, including center back Anna Chiodo-Ortiz; Emily Vervlied and Jasmine Bishop, who combined to record five shots on offense and five tackles on defense; and Liz Gregorio, who came off the bench and shored up the back line.

NORRISTOWN 2, UPPER MERION 1
A pair of freshmen, Gabby Castenova and Lauren Fortescue, each scored as the Eagles edged the Vikings for their historic, first-ever victory in SOL American competition, head coach Lisa Noce said.
“The players were ecstatic, even as some of them didn’t realize that Norristown had never won a Suburban One League game in the history of the program—this is my third year as head coach, and I know that the soccer (program) has been around for more than 10 years.” Noce said. “They really see that as a turning point.”
Noce said she had spoken with the players all season about earning this breakthrough victory.
“I’ve been telling them that they have the potential to turn this around, and this can help the program to grow, and with the talent we have this year, they would have to come out and to want it,” Noce said. “Today, they really wanted it and were hustling, and everyone had a great game.”
Senior Brianna Schools assisted on Castenova’s first-half goal that allowed Norristown (2-11, 1-9 SOL) to take a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
After Upper Merion (2-10-1, 2-7-1 SOL) had tied the contest at 1, junior Roshell Vincent assisted on the Fortescue’s game-winner.
“I had moved (Vincent) from another position that she had been playing all season, and that made a big difference,” Noce said. “At first, (Vincent) was really reluctant, but then she saw how well that worked.”
Norristown senior goalkeeper Hanna Kqira earned the victory.
This victory will provide a building block for future wins, Noce said, especially for returning players.
“This shows them that they can do it,” Noce said. “I’ve been telling them they can the whole time, and we’ve had some good games, where it has been possible, but then we would have a letdown that really breaks their spirits. But now, they can believe me more and really see that we can just improve and keep going.”
Upper Merion 0-1 1
Norristown 1-1 2
SPRINGFIELD (MONTCO) 4, CHELTENHAM 0

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1, PENNRIDGE 0
South freshman Mackenzie Ehresman scored the only goal of the contest off a header in the 54th minute, as the host Titans knocked the Rams from the ranks of the unbeaten.
“My players really got up for it, and (Pennridge) just has a tremendous team,” South head coach Betsy Bullock said. “For us to pull off this upset, it’s really big. We’re ecstatic.”
The game-winner was set up by a corner kick taken by junior Abby Coco.
“We practice corner kicks quite a bit, and to see them execute the way we want to, that’s really nice to see,” Bullock said.
For South (6-3-3, 4-3-3 SOL), Coco also played a strong game in the middle, along with Jessica Volm.
Bullock said the entire team needed to play well.
“We really played well in the back, the defense was organized, so it was the only way to defeat a team like that, because (the Rams) have so many weapons,” Bullock said. “They kept coming at us, but we kept shutting them down and really playing good team defense.”
In making seven saves against Pennridge (9-1-3, 7-1-2 SOL), South senior goalkeeper Kelliann Bolash earned her first shutout this year.
Normally the backup, Bolash was filling in for sophomore Sophia Boggs, who had five shutouts this year, but sat out this contest after an injury Monday in practice.
Bullock said Bolash had filled in several games last year, again when there were injuries, but had played mostly junior varsity before this year.
“This is really nice for (Bolash),” Bullock said. “On a lot of other squads, she would be the starting goalkeeper. She is a great kid, too. As a senior, some players might not take being a backup well. She’s very team-oriented and works really hard.”
Bullock said Boggs could be ready on Tuesday when South hosts Central Bucks East.

PENNSBURY 2, BENSALEM 1
Jayden Peto scored both goals for the Falcons, who remained undefeated this season, and Sid Doherty scored the only goal for the Owls, as all the scoring occurred in about a five-minute span.
“Both (Pennsbury) goals were scrambles in the box, where a few players had taken shots that had deflected off defenders and the goalkeeper,” Pennsbury head coach Kaitlyn Battiste said.
Peto opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, then Doherty tied the game for Bensalem off a penalty kick in the 26th minute.
About two minutes later, Peto scored the game-winner in the 28th minute.
For Pennsbury (12-0-1, 9-0-1 SOL), goalkeeper Nany Santiago recorded two saves, and Meredith Webber battled at both ends of the pitch, in the attack zone and at the defensive end against Bensalem (4-9, 3-7 SOL).

Council Rock South (10-3, 7-3 SOL) took a 1-0 lead after intercepting a clearing attempt by Abington goalkeeper Destiny Walters.
Abington (4-9-1, 2-8 SOL) had several late chances to tie the contest, but Council Rock South goalkeeper Alison Taub made a crucial save on a free kick by the Ghosts’ Jamie Gosselin toward the far corner of the net. Taub’s save resulted in an Abington corner kick, but the Ghosts were unable to get a late equalizer.
