Liberty Division
Quakertown 4, Wissahickon 0
The Panthers broke things open in the second half to pick an SOL Liberty win, making up a game that had been postponed earlier in the season.
It was the veterans leading the way. A quick strike from senior Rachel McMonagle in the first four minutes gave Quakertown a strong start following a setback Monday night.
After halftime, it was senior Madison Taylor’s time to shine. Taylor, who will be playing at Shippensburg next year and is usually found locking down the back line, scored twice in the second half and added an assist to senior Ashlyn Calabria for good measure.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
Q – Rachel McMonagle (Brielle Bailey) 4th min
2nd Half
Q – Madison Taylor 44th min
Q – Ashlyn Calabria (Madison Taylor) 48th min
Q – Madison Taylor 71st min
Quakertown coach Jon Gingrich on the win: “With both teams having played the night before and dealing with multiple injuries, this was a tough win for us. Wissahickon is coached well, and we knew they would try to stop our outside speed. Our defense played extremely well shutting down the Wissahickon attack all game. Overall, it was a nice team win.”
–Taylor’s standout performance: “Senior Madison Taylor who normally anchors our defense played a major offensive role for us today. She scored two goals and assisted on another. Being able to take our star players and move them into different roles because of injuries and getting excellent play from those players is huge for the success of our team.”
–Props: “Senior Ashlyn Calabria was a threat all game. She is a threat with her speed and her movement on the line always opens up through ball goals.”
–Lockdown backs: “Our defensive line of juniors, Anna Greenday and Jewel Renshaw and freshmen Brielle Bailey and Mya James were strong all game. They controlled our play, they got up and out on the wings, they provided attack from outside, and they were switching the field to open up attacks. All four of them played together and were a huge reason why we got the win today.”
Up next: Quakertown (8-6, 3-3 SOL) travels to Hatboro-Horsham at 7 on Oct. 8. Wissahickon (4-6-3, 1-3-2) hosts Plymouth Whitemarsh at 7pm on Oct 8.

Freedom Division
William Tennent 4, Upper Moreland 1
The Panthers used a strong second half to break a halftime tie on the way to a key win in the SOL Freedom standings. William Tennent, which is a game back of division leader Lower Moreland, scored first but saw the Golden Bears rally to tie heading into the break. Sofia Jakimoski broke the tie while Lia Jablonowski added a goal and an assist late for some insurance.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
WT – Bailey Kasner (Sami Roby) 11th
UM – Lizzie Walker
2nd Half
WT – Sofia Jakimoski (Paige Marek)
WT – Bailey Kasner (Lia Jablonowski)
WT – Lia Jablonowski
Keeper saves: UM – Gracie Costello 14
William Tennent coach Elise Jara on the win: “After a difficult crossover week, the team rebounded and came up with a win against an improved Upper Moreland team. We struck first with a goal by Sofia Jakimoski, who has been clutch for us all season. Upper Moreland tied it late in the first half on a direct kick. Going into the second half the team knew they had to step up their play as we did not create many chances. Our defense held strong as they have for us all season and once we settled in we were able to score.”
Upper Moreland coach Lisa Benvenuto on the game: “We came out ready and strong–we were able to pressure William Tennent and forced them to make some errors. After they scored, we were able to continue to settle in and get into our rhythm. Lizzie Walker was able to put a direct kick in from about 40 yards out. Walker has incredible strength and precision with her free kicks. It was a great finish and exactly what we needed going into halftime. The start of the second half we knew the Tennent would come out strong, we were able to match them fairly well. We had a few mistakes in the second half that led to William Tennent getting the lead and holding it. We need to continue learning from games like today, and we need to be better tomorrow.”
Up next: William Tennent (8-4-1, 5-1-0 SOL) hosts Archbishop Wood at 10 am on Saturday.
Upper Moreland (5-7, 2-4) hosts Cavalry Christian at 3:30 on Wednesday.

Non-league
Plymouth Whitemarsh 4, Bensalem 0
A first half brace from junior Mia Baron not only kept the forward in form, it paced the Colonials to a solid win in their lone action of the week. Baron’s energy is felt in games but just as importantly in practices and it’s not surprising the junior is a team leader in goals, assists and overall scoring chances. With her two goals and a late score from Maite Jayo, the Colonials took a three-goal lead to the half.
Their lone score in the second half came as a senior-to-senior connection and provided the team one of its best moments of the season.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
PW – Mia Baron (Maddi Lazaroff) 24th
PW – Mia Baron (Marleigh Burton) 30th
PW – Maite Jayo (Keira Whelan) 38th
2nd Half
PW – Gianna Clark (Audrey Conroy) 76th
PW coach TJ DeLucia on the win: “We had a good practice yesterday coming off of the exciting win at Quakertown on Friday. While we controlled play in the first half, the coaches didn’t feel that we were as sharp as we can be. Credit to our goalkeeper Olivia Bragg and backline of Maddie McLaughlin, Katie Lukens, Kaiane Jayo, and Harper Reilly who continued their strong play and earned another clean sheet, our fifth of the season.”
–Baron’s offensive impact: “Junior forward Mia Baron – coming off of a one goal, one assist performance at Quakertown – hit a beautiful volley far post after sophomore Maddi Lazaroff played a great dead ball to her with about 16 minutes remaining in the first half. That was Maddi Lazaroff’s team-leading fourth assist of the season, tying her with Mia Baron. Five minutes later, Mia put in her second of the game after Keira Whelan played Marleigh Burton through. Marleigh played a really nice pass across the box to Baron. In her past two games, Mia now has three goals and an assist. She leads the team in goal involvements on the season with eight, and she sets the tone for the entire team with the energy that she brings to every practice and every game. I’m really happy to see that energy turn into an end-product on the field.”
–Adding on before the half: “With under two minutes remaining in the half, junior Keira Whelan continued her terrific play linking our offense together; she turned and played a ball on the ground to Maite Jayo who made a great run and struck it from outside the 18 for her first goal of the season.”
–Highlight moment: “The second half saw us score our most enjoyable goal of the season. Senior Audrey Conroy, who has missed a good portion of the season, came in for her first action in weeks and hit a beautiful one time cross from the right side of the field into the box and senior Gianna Clark scored her first varsity goal when she attacked the ball in the air.
“The post-goal celebration from players, coaches, and parents was, by far, the biggest that we’ve had and that is a testament to the type of kid Gianna is. She is not getting the minutes that she may have hoped for, but she is a kid who shows up to practice every day, works as hard she can, attends as much off-season stuff as she can, supports her teammates from the bench, etc. Terrific kid and the coaches were absolutely thrilled that she was able to get on the scoresheet today.”
Up next: Plymouth Whitemarsh (7-5-1, 2-3-1 SOL) hosts Springfield Twp at 7pm on Oct. 7. Bensalem (2-9, 1-5) visits Dock Mennonite Academy at 3:45 on Saturday.

Pennridge 3, Council Rock South 0
It was only a two-day week in terms of games, but that didn’t stop Pennridge’s Caitlyn Peace and Kaylie Thran from making the most of it. Peace, a senior bound for High Point, scored the
winning goal in the first half to follow up a goal and assist in Monday night’s win over Quakertown. The speedster forward now has 11 goals this season. With this year being her first playing significant time on the varsity roster, Thran has embraced her expanded role. The senior, playing at Muhlenberg next year, tallied assists on the team’s first two goals. Kate Brashear rounded out the scoring, netting her first goal since
returning from a knee injury last week. CR South, which battled District 11 power Parkland to a 2-2 tie on Monday, played hard on the back-to-back and threatened several times
despite not getting a goal to show for it.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
P – Caitlyn Peace (Kaylie Thran)
2nd Half
P – Addy Mills (Kaylie Thran)
P – Kate Brashear (Emily Hensler)
Pennridge coach Audrey Anderson on the win: “Caitlyn Peace started off our scoring in the first half with a great shot to beat the keeper from a great ball from Kaylie Thran. In the second half, Addy Mills headed a Kaylie Thran corner into the back of the net. Kate Brashear got herself her 1st goal after coming back from her injury from Emily Hensler. The girls will enjoy some down time after a grueling five games in nine days.”
–Standouts: “South had a player who could hit a ball about 50 yards against the wind, our back four of Addy Mills, Gabby Herrmann, Avery Runk, and Mia Pultorak did a fantastic job of winning the balls out of the air and Jessie Moylan in the midfield was able to win the second ball.
“CR South didn’t give up, CeCe DeMoss had an incredible save in the final couple minutes, and I thought we did a great job of finishing out the game. The team battled to keep the shutout.”
–Brashear’s goal: “I was very happy for Kate, it meant a lot to her and the team really celebrated her after the goal.”
Up next: Pennridge (13-1, 5-1 SOL) visits CB East at 7pm on Oct. 8. CR South (7-5-1, 4-2-0) travels to Neshaminy at 7pm on Oct 8.

Hatboro-Horsham 2, Springfield Twp 0
The Hatters put a few things together in the second half and it netted them a win.
Lily Harvey bagged a brace, both her goals coming after halftime as the Hatters picked up their passing and movement following a sluggish opening 40 minutes. The entire defensive unit – backs Marisa Bennett, Maddy Morino, Cara Neeld and Madison Duggan and senior keeper Riley McGuire – stood firm to keep the shutout.
Scoring Summary
2nd Half
Lily Harvey (Ryleigh White)
Lily Harvey (Angelica Visceglia)
Hatters coach Chris Artman on the win: “We came out very flat in the first half. We were not connecting passes through the midfield, and we had little movement off the ball. Defensively, our back four of Marisa Bennett, Maddy Morino, Cara Neeld and Madison Duggan were solid as they have been all year. Senior keeper Riley McGuire made some great saves to earn the clean sheet.”
Halftime adjustments: “Second half we were a different team, connecting passes through the midfield and getting runs behind their defense. We started creating scoring chances. Ryleigh White was putting their backs under pressure and was able to find Lily Harvey who made a nice run to goal. Lily took a great touch and slid a left footed shot to the far post to put us up 1-0.
“Our second goal came off a great individual play by Angelica Visceglia. She won the ball in the midfield and made a quick little move to beat her player and then put a great ball in to Lily Harvey who was making a great run between the center backs. Their keeper was coming hard to the ball and Lilly hit another great left footed shot over the keeper into the upper corner.”
Up next: Hatboro-Horsham (5-7-1, 1-4-1 SOL) hosts Quakertown at 7 on Oct. 8. Springfield Twp (4-9, 4-2) visits Plymouth Whitemarsh at 7 on Oct 7.
