COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 2, ABINGTON 0
The Indians picked up a crucial win Monday as they try to make their way into the postseason.
Council Rock North was the No. 24 team in the latest District I AAAA power rankings, the last team in the field if the postseason were to begin now. Adding to the challenges was the status of many of the team’s key players.
"One of the hardest things for today was the girls' club teams had a major tournament this weekend, it's one of the biggest college recruiting showcases," North coach Wendell Beres said. "Many of the girls played Saturday and Sunday after playing with us on Friday and had to play again. Basically, they played their fourth game in four days, and Abington had a little bit of the same. I'm very proud of our kids for battling through that."
Kayla Robinson set the pace early, scoring her 13th goal of the season in the game's third minute, a much needed strike with so many tired legs on the field. Mackenzie Siverd finished things off with a goal in the 50th minute for her first career tally.
Becca Margolis was all over for the Indians, assisting both goals.
"Mackenzie Siverd had a great game, and it was very fitting for her to get her first career goal in a situation where we were getting pressured a little bit," Beres said. "She gave us some much-needed insurance today."
Despite the mountain of minutes on the players, they were able to rise to the occasion.
"Kaitlyn Duffy was all over the field and did a great job for us," Beres said. "Abbey Kollar, her second start in a row, last start she had a goal and today she covered tons of ground and really battled for us, and I thought Emily Mackin in the midfield played well."
The Galloping Ghosts fought, but couldn't muster a rally against North's stout defense.
"Kathryn Gerhard, Lily Campoli and Issy Mugnier turned in stalwart efforts for Abington," Ghosts coach Rick Tompkins said.
Carly Riggs posted her 10th shutout win, making four saves for the Indians. Beres said his team will have a needed day off Tuesday, then get back to work planning for a pivotal match with Neshaminy on Friday.
"We came to battle," Beres said. "Our backs are against the wall, the latest power rankings have us at 24 with only 24 teams getting in. We have battles with Pennsbury and Neshaminy coming up so today was essentially a must-win."
While Council Rock North (10-4, 6-4 SOL) will travel to Neshaminy, Abington (3-11, 2-8) will be on the road at Harry S Truman on Friday.
ABINGTON 0 0 – 0
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1 1 – 2
Goals: CRN – Kayla Robinson (Becca Margolis) 3', Mackenzie Siverd (Margolis) 50'
BENSALEM 6, HARRY S TRUMAN 0
The Owls got a youth movement to spark their win on Monday.
Sophomore Kiley Dahms led the effort with a hat trick, her first at the varsity level.
"We're very happy with her work rate and effort since she moved up to the varsity squad last week after starting the year with jayvee," Owls coach Lew Mladjen said. "I was also happy with the effort of the center mids, Amanda Felice and Sydney Miller, setting the pace of attacking play."
Miller is another young player who is playing a big role for Bensalem.
"She is a sophomore and has done a nice job wherever we have moved her with the number of injuries we've had lately," Mladjen said.
Dahms had the first two goals of the game, both in the first half, then capped the evening with her third and final goal. Tori Yorgey had a brace and Kayla Poll also scored in the second half for Bensalem.
The Owls were without standout keeper Ashley Rivera due to a club soccer tournament, but call-up Chloe Munyon, a freshman, stepped right in.
"She did a solid job filling in, making a few good saves to preserve the shutout in the second half," Mladjen said.
Bensalem (4-9-2, 3-7 SOL) will host Archbishop Ryan in a non-league contest on Saturday night (7 p.m.). Harry S Truman (0-13, 0-9) will travel to Upper Merion on Thursday for a non-league game.

BENSALEM 2 4 – 6

CB EAST 2, CB WEST 1
The Patriots rallied to beat their sister-school rival in a tight contest Monday night.
Mary Kate Vinkler struck the host Bucks to a lead in the 47th minute, but Hannah Zach was able to get her team the win. Zach tied the game in the 58th minute after Kate Schlotter slotted a ball through a seam in the defense and found Zach.
Zach then scored the game winner on a penalty kick in the 64th minute.
"We had a desire to not lose," CB East coach Paul Eisold said. "We played with a sense of urgency, but at the same time, we had patience to see it through for the result. This team has matured tremendously during the last several games."
The victory was a needed one for East, which found itself No. 23 in the most recent District I AAAA power rankings.
While Zach provided the scoring punch, the Patriots needed the entire roster to battle past a Bucks team that's played every conference foe tough.
"Gabby Learn, Carly Whiton, Kate Schlotter and Zach continued to put pressure on the West defense," Eisold said. "Delaney Kennedy, Bri Talbot, Izzy Hunter and Riley Kane dominated the midfield. East played a tough West team but was able to turn the corner and get the needed result."
Central Bucks East (7-6-1, 5-4-1 SOL) will travel to William Tennent on Friday, and Central Bucks West (5-11, 0-10) will be on the road at Pennridge on Friday.

CB SOUTH 2, WEST CHESTER EAST 0
The Titans were triumphant in a rescheduled nonleague game Monday afternoon.
South put a lot of pressure on West Chester East, but needed some patience to crack the back of the net. Titans coach Betsy Bullock said her team generated 15 shots, but needed until the halfway point of the first half to get one in.
"There was a scrum in front of the net and Corinne McDonald passed to Morgan Hilton, who poked the ball in for the goal," Bullock said.
With South's defense playing up to its usual stout standards, the offense was able to keep prodding and finally broke through again midway through the second half.
"Kylie Walsh, our outside mid, slotted a perfect pass to Maddie Koch, who buried it in the upper 90," Bullock said.
Senior goalkeeper Sophia Boggs got a day of rest but her backup, Taylor Marinelli, continued her strong run of form with four saves for the shutout. Marinelli has continued to play well spelling Boggs.
"She is a very fundamentally sound keeper who would be starting on many teams," Bullock said. "She communicates well with our defense, controls the box and serves a very long punt."
The nonleague victory could have later implications for the Titans, who were No. 4 in the latest rankings.
"It provides bonus points in our ranking which could help our seed in the postseason," Bullock said.
Central Bucks South (11-2, 7-2 SOL) will host William Tennent on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
WEST CHESTER EAST 0 0 – 0
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1 1 – 2

WISSAHICKON 2, HATBORO-HORSHAM 1
Alexis Smith's first-half brace held up for the guest Trojans on Monday night.
Smith scored her first at the 13:34 mark of the first half, assisted by Rachel Coleman and Jasmine Bishop, and again at the 20:52 mark, assisted by Emily Dickson.
"It was a total team effort for 80 minutes," Trojans coach Shannon Creamer-Franke said. "Dickson tirelessly made a difference in the midfield. Captain Mary Mathews organized and pushed her back four, including fellow center back, Anna Wilde, to hold the game scoreless up until the final two minutes."
Despite Wissahickon scoring both goals in the first half, it was an even contest, with both teams holding the ball nearly equal in time and trading runs up and down the field.
Lauren Kim had the lone goal for the Hatters, pulling it back at the 78:17 mark.
