PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 1, WISSAHICKON 0 (OT)
If a team was in a need of big win, it was certainly Plymouth Whitemarsh. The Colonials got it Thursday afternoon pulling off a big upset against host Wissahickon in an overtime thriller.
In the opening minute of the overtime, Colleen Hufnagel found Jewel Terraces up field and the forward got loose and shot it past Trojans keeper Nicole Hastings for the game-winning goal.
Wissahickon outshot the Colonials 21-3, but PW managed to slip the game’s lone goal past for a big win. The Trojans shut out PW the last time the two teams met on September 16, but it was the Colonials turn for the shutout this time.
Maria Robinson came up huge in net for PW, stopping 21 shots and turning back a heavy assault by the Wissahickon offense. A majority of the Trojans attack came in the second half.
“She was fantastic,” coach Chris Young said of Robinson. “Wissahickon put a lot of pressure on us in the last 20 minutes of regulation and she was terrific.”
The defense behind Robinson was solid as well. Young noted the strong play of his three backliners— Hufnagel, Ragan Ebersole, Emily Rosenberger—in helping preserve the shutout and get the team into overtime.
Terraces, who deposited the game-winner has been the spark offensively all season for PW.
“Teams key on her. Wissahickon was no different. She worked through it and got the game-winner—it was pretty cool for her,” Young said.
After back-to-back ties to Upper Moreland and Upper Merion, Plymouth Whitemarsh desperately needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Thursday’s win will certainly help their case. Young said his girls were looking forward to this battle.
“They don’t need any extra encouragement to get excited to play this team,” he said, speaking of the already strong rivalry the Colonials have with Wissahickon. “It was an excellent game.”
Despite the outcome, Trojans’ coach Shannon Creamer-Franke gave props to her defense.
“[Our] four defenders, Kirsten Haney, Mary Matthews, Jasmine Bishop, and Anna Wilde continued their excellent play against PW and allowed only three shots the entire game,” she said.
Creamer-Franke also credited the play of her forwards Maddie Elwell, Krysta Memis and Mady Foglia. Elwell in particular had six shots on goal.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (5-4-2, 5-3-2 SOL) will travel to Upper Dublin in a key conference battle on Tuesday, and Wissahickon (7-4-1, 7-2-1 SOL) will be on the road Upper Merion.

Paige Lawton (48th minute) and Tori Hoffner (60th minute) added second half goals as Upper Dublin put away the visiting Bears 3-0
“[We] battled with Upper Dublin but couldn’t finish their opportunities,” Upper Moreland coach Lisa Benvenuto said. “[Our] defense was able to pull UD offsides 12 times.”
Upper Dublin (10-0-1, 9-0-1 SOL) stays hot with the victory and will battle National Conference foe Abington Friday afternoon. Upper Moreland (5-6-1, 4-5-1 SOL) will host Springfield on Tuesday.

Springfield snuck by Cheltenham in a battle of American Conference opponents.

Cheltenham had a goal from Ruby Tomasic to tie the game up, but with about eight minutes left, Springfield went on top again with another goal from Cooney. The Spartans held on for the 2-1 win.
“We always have a good battle with them," Springfield coach Suzette Wolf said. “They're a strong team, they're well coached, they come out hard, and they come to play.
“Defensively, we pretty much shut them down. We had a lot of opportunities. Emily Walsh, our freshman stopper, played a really strong defensive game today.”

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1, SOUDERTON 0
CB West has Souderton’s number this year. The Bucks topped the Indians back on September 16, 4-2, and West swept the season series with another win Thursday night.
Lindsay Morgan slipped past a pair of Souderton defenders and buried a goal in the 48th minute that ended up being the deciding goal.
For the Bucks, the win comes a few days after a close loss at the hands of Pennridge. It also comes a week after they lost a three-goal lead in the final 20 minutes to Quakertown and settled for a draw with the Panthers. To keep, their playoff hopes alive, the Bucks needed this win.
“We just put high pressure on them,” Bucks’ coach Chris Shank said. “We knew that Souderton was rolling with a couple quality wins. We didn’t know how they were going to come out after losing a tough one to Quakertown, so we told the girls to keep the foot on the pedal”
Shank was pleased with the play of his entire team, especially freshman Tricia Hauck. The defensive center mid maintained the center of the field well for the Bucks.
West has been on the losing end of many one-goal games, and Shank was happy to come out on top of one as his team moves into the stretch run of the season.
“We’ve had a couple bad losses here and there,” he said. “The girls are still believing. We’re below .500
in the league and the girls could have packed it up and went the other way, but they all just stepped up.”
West had 14 shots on the night and the Indians had 11. Jenny Sutorious stopped all of them in net for the Bucks.
Some big games remain on West’s schedule, including dates with their sister school, East and West, in the final week of the season.
“We have a lot of soccer left to play,” Shank said.
For the Indians, the loss was their second of the week.
"It was a very competitive game, and of course, we're very disappointed with the loss," Souderton coach Chris Felber said. "We want to win one game a week, and this is the first week we have failed to do so, so it's a new feeling this year.
"West is tough and organized like all teams in our conference, but I feel we were the better team in both games this week. We were unable to really nail things down and play our best. On Tuesday, Quakertown scored two very good goals on us, but we gifted West a goal Thursday night and in the end of the game.
"Goals are starting to dry up on us but better now than in the playoffs. Every team we play is so competitive, and it's easy to lose a few games, so we have to realize that and remember that we are still well on traget for our 10 wins and playoffs."
CB West (5-5-2, 4-4-2 SOL) has a tough matchup with Archbishop Ryan tomorrow night. Souderton (8-4-1, 5-4-1 SOL) will travel to Pennridge on Tuesday.
Central Bucks West 0-1 1

Then in 73rd minute, Loving scored on a penalty kick to make it 2-0 and it would stay that way.
Katie Dolf and Kristen Obetz preserved the shutout in net for the Patriots.

Thomas wasn’t finished, though. The sophomore completed a hat trick two minutes into the second half off an assist from Hope Drewes. Jadyn Peto got in on the action with a 46th minute goal, assisted by Abby Wick. Peto scored again in the 69th minute for the Falcons final goal of the game.

NESHAMINY 7, WILLIAM TENNENT 1
The best way to shake off a tough loss is a big win. Two days after falling to Abington, Neshaminy defeated William Tennent 7-1 behind strong offensive games from Brooke Mullin, Gabby Farrell and Jackie Ziegler
But Tennent got out in front first. Emily Wasserleben scored for the Panthers with an assist from Shannon McGuinn in the third minute.
In the eight minute, Neshaminy tied it up. Brianna Tobin found Brooke Mullin for the goal. In the 25th minute, the same pair connected again for Mullin’s second goal to make it 2-1 heading into the half.
Gabby Farrell got on the board in the 43rd minute for Neshaminy (Julia Andreozzi assist). Farrell found the back of the net again in the 52nd minute and almost exactly a minute later scored her third goal (Jackie Ziegler assist) for the hat trick. It took her less than ten minutes to score her three goals.
Then it was Ziegler’s turn. Ziegler scored in the 61st minute with an assist from Tobin (her third assist of the game). In the 72nd minute, Emily Tomlinson found Ziegler for another goal to make it 7-1 Neshaminy.
