PENNSBURY 3, COATESVILLE 1

In the opening half, freshman Sydney Becker scored with an assist from junior Corinne Russo, and after Coatesville evened the score on a free kick, Russo scored an unassisted goal.
In the second half, junior Stephanie Baker turned a corner kick by sophomore Sofia Gorski into a goal and the 3-1 final.

Second half
Stephanie Bakcer (P) from Sofia Gorski 3-1
Coach Jenna Peters:
“Today, the girls had something to prove to themselves. After conceding a goal in the last 45 seconds and playing double overtime yesterday, the result was not what we hoped for. We stressed the importance of starting strong and finishing stronger. The team responded with determination, coming out with intensity and controlling the game. They created numerous opportunities and managed to convert three of them into goals. However, both the players and coaches recognize the need to capitalize on even more of the chances we generate. We are happy and excited with how the season has started and are ready to get back to work next week.”
–Game recap: “Our first goal came from our freshman Sydney Becker getting on a through ball and crossing the ball into the box for our junior Corinne Russo to get on the end of for the goal. Coatesville scored on a free kick outside the box. Our second goal was our junior Corinne Russo getting on a through ball, beating two players and going at goal herself to score. Our third goal was in the second half on a corner kick taken by our sophomore Sofia Gorski and our junior Stephanie Baker was able to finish it.”

Amber Yuan turned a Sydney Linus corner kick into a goal that gave the Indians a 3-2 lead on their way to the win. It was the second win of the young season for the Indians. An insurance goal by Linus with nine minutes in regulation put the finishing touches on the win.
Earlier, after an early goal by Rustin, the Indians evened the score with a goal by Isabel Diaz (Mia Cairone assist). Rustin came back to take a 2-1 lead that stood until halftime. A goal by Sara Tyler, also with a Cairone assist, evened the score 2-2, setting the stage for the Indians’ strong finish.

Coach Gavin Flanigan:
“We still have a lot of things we want to fix, but wining the first two games against the opponents we have faced is a good start to the season for us.”
–Game recap: “Another slow start for us this evening, but we showed great determination in the second half to come away with the win again. Rustin was quicker on the ball and more threatening in the first half, and they hit the post early before taking the lead in the first ten minutes. Shortly after, some good play ended with Isabel Diaz finishing from a Mia Cairone pass. For the rest of the half, we were on our heels a little and right before halftime, Rustin took the lead again to make it 2-1.
“Our focus and aggressive mentality helped in the second half, and we got the equalizer midway through the second half when Mia found Sara Tyler driving into the box to finish into the bottom corner. After that, we continued to create good moments. Sydney Linus served a great corner for Amber Yuan to head home to make it 3-2, and then Sydney hit a great free kick from 30 yards that the keeper had no chance to save to make it 4-2 with 9 minutes left.
–Props: “Our midfield play was much improved in the second half, and that was in large part due to Sydney Linus and a great performance from Addison Martin, whose positioning and decision making was excellent. Freshman forward Sarina Igval caused a lot of problems. and like last night, we were able to use a lot of players to allow us to stay fresh towards the end of the game.”

ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHOLIC 3, NORTH PENN 2
The visiting Knights found themselves on the short end of a 2-0 score, and although the Knights turned in a strong second half effort, outscoring their hosts 2-1, they could not dig themselves out of their early hole.
Maddy Murphy found the net in the 41st minute with an assist from Mila Rogozinski. Nine minutes later, Murphy connected on her second goal to even the score 2-2, but ACC had an answer, connecting for the game-winner with a minute remaining.”
Coach Mike Rio:
“We gave up two goals in the first half but rebounded to tie it up in the second. ACC scored the game winner with a minute remaining. I’m proud of the way the girls battled back against a good team that beat us 3-0 to start the season last year. It is a good measuring stick to play a quality opponent to know what we are capable of and where we need to grow as a team. Mila Rogozinski had a great game for us, and Maddy Murphy was clinical in front of the net as usual. Also, a big shoutout to defenders Allison Schall, Jadyn Sperling, Alyssa Chartrand and Avery Krepps who really played a solid second half and helped us get back into the game.”
Next up: North Penn (0-1) will host Lansdale Catholic in a non-league game Monday at 7 p.m.
North Penn 0-2 2
Allentown Central Catholic 2-1. 3
