COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 4, WILLIAM TENNENT 1
Council Rock South responded in fine form after host William Tennent scored the first goal. The Titans received two goals from Macy Laidlaw, who later added an assist as the Titans tacked on two more in the second half to earn a 4-1 win.
Scoring summary
First half
Bailey Kasner (WT)
Macy Laidlaw (CRS)
Macy Laidlaw (CRS), assisted by Teagan Shay
Second half
Riley O’Halloran (CRS), assisted by Macy Laidlaw
Brianna Howard (CRS), assisted by Lianna Shrikvarger
Council Rock South coach Nick Heim: “On a Friday road trip in a week that saw us have back-to-back games and one that went 100 minutes, we were able to secure a solid victory over Tennent. We knew Tennent would be physical and tough to the end and they were, so I’m very pleased with our depth today.”
—Rallying from an early deficit: “We came out of the gates hot and forced their goalie into a save within 20 seconds, but the game then slowed down a bit. Tennent got on the board on a PK to go up 1-0. I felt it was a big moment because our girls felt it was a controversial call, so we relied on leadership to overcome some early adversity. In a two-minute span, Macy Laidlaw struck twice for us, with the second coming from a Teagan Shay assist to give us a 2-1 halftime lead. We preached staying to our plan and putting the game away early in the second half. Five minutes in, Laidlaw beat a defender on the flank and played a ball across the top of the box to Riley O’Halloran who hammered home a one-timer. A few minutes later, Lianna Shrikvarger intercepted a pass and played a great diagonal ball to Brianna Howard, who spun her defender and beat the goalie high to make it 4-1. We were able to handle the rest of the half with plenty of fresh legs to get a solid road win to end the week.”
William Tennent coach Elise Jara: “We took the lead early on a PK by junior Bailey Kasner, but Council Rock answered with two quick goals before the half. We knew this crossover game would be an uphill battle for us, but credit to our defensive line for holding them scoreless for the first 35 minutes. Two more quick goals at the start of the second half was too much to overcome. The girls all fought hard today, and it was the end of a long week. We will regroup and look towards two more competitive games next week.”
Up next: South will host Central Bucks East at 3:30 pm Tuesday. Tennent will visit Abington for a 3:30 pm Tuesday game.

SPRINGFIELD TWP 4, HATBORO-HORSHAM 2
Springfield earned an impressive 4-2 victory over Hatboro-Horsham in a hard-fought SOL crossover game on Friday. The Spartans’ offense was ignited by Ava Brnich’s hat trick. Rafaella Castillo scored the Spartans’
fourth goal. The game was deadlocked 2-2 , but the Spartans closed out the game with back-to-back goals to earn the big win.
Springfield Twp coach Chris Tomarelli:
–On the game: (We) were powered by a standout performance from Ava Brnich, who recorded a hat trick—truly a ‘hatty’ on the Hatters—to lead the offensive charge.
“Brnich’s relentless scoring was supported by Karter Brady and Liz Hendrzak, who kept the Hatboro-Horsham defense on their toes with constant pressure and smart play up front. Rafaella Castillo added the fourth goal to seal the win for Springfield.
“On the other end of the field, Olivia Gatewood came up big with several critical saves to protect the lead. Defensively, Murphy McGranaghan, June Kirk, Caitlin Lewis, Anna Hendrzak, Aubrey Hendrzak, and Maddie Decker followed the game plan to perfection, working as a cohesive unit to shut down the Hatters’ attack and control the pace of the game.”
Hatboro-Horsham coach Chris Artman: “It was our third game this week and a back-to-back. We just did not have enough left in the tank. I thought the girls still played hard to the final whistle.
“We talked before the game about keeping their striker, Karter Brady, in front of us. We knew they just wanted to play long balls into her. She is strong on the ball and has great speed. She set up their first goal midway through half to give them the 1-0 lead.”
—Hatters’ scoring: “Shortly after we were able to connect through the midfield and found Ryleigh White down the left side. She was able to cut inside and struck a right-footed shot from 25 yards out into the upper right corner.
“Springfield was able to grab the 2-1 lead. We kept battling and were able to tie the game 2-2 on a good service into the box. Payton Skutches was able to get on the end of the service and score her first of the year.”
Up next: The Spartans will visit Quakertown at 3:30 pm Tuesday. The Hatters will host neighborhood rival Upper Moreland at 3:45 pm Tuesday.
Hatboro-Horsham 1 1 – 2

PENNRIDGE 2, ABINGTON 1 (OT)
Erin Corbett scored just 53 seconds into the extra session as Pennridge pulled out a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Abington. Abington’s Alexis Whaley scored with 5 minutes left in regulation to force overtime, but Pennridge responded and netted the game-winning goal on a rebound to lift the Rams to victory.
Cam Snyder scored the game’s first goal, and Emma Shaeffer assisted on both Pennridge goals.
Scoring summary
First half
Cam Snyder (P), assisted by Emma Shaeffer
Second half
Alexis Whaley (A), assisted by Valerie Zapata
Overtime
Erin Corbett (P), assisted by Emma Shaeffer
Pennridge coach Lucas Kriner: “It’s nice to get out of a packed week 3-0. It’s always fun hosting Abington. Rick’s one of the best coaches around, and he had his girls fighting and believing for 80 minutes. They got the best of us in a majority of the duels today, especially in the air, and that’s a credit to Abington’s grit.”
—Key players: “Erin’s quick OT goal was great. She’s a good forward for us. She has had an unlucky streak of hitting the post in some games recently, so I’m happy she scored the walk-off. Cam’s early goal four minutes into the game was a composed finish off a great pass from Emma.”
Up next: The Rams visit Neshaminy at 3:30 pm Tuesday. Abington will host William Tennent at 3:30 pm Tuesday.
Abington 0 1 0 – 1
Pennridge 1 0 1 – 2
Nonleague
WEST CHESTER RUSTIN 2, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 1
It was a stellar effort and a fantastic contest against a top-tier opponent, but controversy late in the second half led to the game-winning goal as Plymouth Whitemarsh suffered its first defeat of the season, a 2-1 loss to defending District One Class 3A champion West Chester Rustin in Friday’s nonleague game.
Maddie McGuckien scored the Colonials’ goal off a Maddi Lazaroff assist late in the first half.
Scoring summary
First half
WC Rustin goal
Maddie McGuckien (PW), assisted by Maddi Lazaroff, 35th minute
Second half
WC Rustin goal
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Thomas Delucia: “This was a terrific soccer game with both teams battling in the hot sun. I’m extremely proud of our team for how they played today, playing three games against Abington, Upper Dublin, and Rustin within a span of 75 hours. Our players deserved better today than what transpired on the field.”
—The controversial game-winner: “With the score 1-1 and 3:38 remaining in the second half, the referee stopped play and the clock for an injured PW player. He escorted our player off the field. The Rustin team went to their bench for water. I asked the ref after he escorted our player off the field to our bench if we could have a water break, as well. He said, ‘Yes you can,’ and signaled for our team to approach our bench.
“Approximately 12 seconds later, the Rustin coach began inquiring to the official as to why we had a water break. Our water break, in front of our bench, was in our offensive half of the field. After the Rustin coach complained, the official blew his whistle for us to re-enter play. The clock was still stopped. Our players began returning to field of play. Seven seconds after the ref blew his whistle for us to exit the water break, he allowed Rustin to throw the ball into play. We had the keeper and one player behind the ball. Rustin received a 3-on-1 breakaway and scored.
“From when the water break was granted, 26 seconds passed before he allowed Rustin to throw the ball into the field of play. This can all be clearly seen on film on fan.hudl.com.
“This was an extremely unfortunate way for this terrific game to end. It is a real shame for our players to suffer their first loss of the season in this manner. The game should be settled on the field. The game should not be settled by an official granting a water break, 19 seconds later, blowing his whistle for our team to return, and 7 seconds later allowing Rustin to throw the ball in.”
Up next: The Colonials will host New Hope-Solebury at 3:30 pm Tuesday.
Plymouth Whitemarsh 1 0 – 1
West Chester Rustin 1 1 – 2
