COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1
Nick Heim called it a typical Rock North/Rock South battle at Walt Snyder Stadium on Monday night, and it was another classic between the neighboring rivals.
“It was high intensity and chances down to the final whistle,” the Golden Hawks’ coach said. “We were a bit disappointed in our play in our opener (a 4-1 loss to Neshaminy), and we spent time working on timing of runs and defending from the front. Both goals came from things we focused on in training, which tells us the girls were focused today. Credit to North, they’re very good and have a ton of offensive firepower.”
Zoe Brossman converted a penalty kick late in the opening half to send the Hawks into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
“The beginning of the game had some quality ball movement from both teams trying to feel each other out,” Heim said. “Towards the end of the first half, a Skyler Scarborough through ball found Kathryn O’Kane in the box, where she was taken down by the goalie. Zoe Brossman converted the penalty kick.
“We knew North would answer the halftime whistle swinging, and we wanted to match the intensity and hopefully get a second goal early. Less than a minute into the half, Maddie Deal picks off a clearance by the goalie, and chips her from about 30 out to go up 2-0.”
The game, however, was far from over.
“North is relentless and has a really potent offense,” Heim said. “They drew a free kick from about 25 yards out that Taylor Brennan hit an absolute rocket upper 90 on. Karissa Smedley, who played solid in goal all night, had no chance. In reality, no goalie did.
“The last 15 minutes was played at a frantic pace with North sending numbers and us trying to hold them off.”
The Golden Hawks’ coach lauded his team’s defensive effort.
“I thought our defense looked like a different unit than last week, and our midfielders Maddie Deal, Kate Millevoi, Zoe Brossman, Lily Bross – certainly contributed to the defensive effort as well,” Heim said. “Our defense was stout – Emily Davis, Kennedy Kuechler, Jenna Waterman, Kim Speiser, Reghan Mudie, and Dana DeDominicis – all played really well for us in keeping a high scoring team to one goal. Karissa Smedley came up big multiple times in net as well, especially on set pieces that North is so dangerous at.”
Council Rock South (1-1 SOL) will travel to Pennsbury on Friday, and Council Rock North (1-2, 1-1) will host Bensalem on Friday.

QUAKERTOWN 0, UPPER DUBLIN 0 (OT)
For 90 minutes, the two teams battled with both creating opportunities, but the respective defenses prevailed. The game was halted after one overtime period because of lightening.
“Another great defensive performance by the Cardinals earned the draw at Quakertown,” said UD coach Chuck Gesing, whose team has allowed just one goal in 270 minutes but has yet to find the net. “Alex Devers blasted a shot at the end of the first half. but Quakertown’s keeper went full stretch to deny the Cardinals.
“Freshman Erin Seabrook played the whole lightening-shortened 90 minutes. Rachel Adelman recorded her second shutout of the season.”
Quakertown (1-1-1, 1-0-1 SOL) will host Wissahickon on Friday, and Upper Dublin (0-1-2, 0-1-1) will be on the road at Plymouth Whitemarsh.

CHELTENHAM 6, NORRISTOWN 0
Six different players contributed scoring for the visiting Lady Panthers, who raced out of the gate to a 3-0 halftime lead on their way to the no-doubt-about-it non-league win.
“We came out strong from the start and had many opportunities to put the ball in the net,” coach Leah Matusow said. “Norristown was playing the offsides trap really well tonight, and it took us some time to adjust, but once we did, we made some great runs and connected strings of good passes.
“The Norristown keeper also played a great game and made us work hard for each goal.”
Scoring goals in the first half were Taden Versaw-Barnes, Lola Jahss and Amelia Fishman. The second half featured goals by Kayla Brockington, Maya Schwartz and Sophie Peck.
“On the defensive end, we were led by our keeper, Rohan McInneshin, who earned the shutout,” Matusow said. “We are looking forward to bringing this energy to our first home game tomorrow against Upper Moreland.”
Cheltenham (2-1, 0-1 SOL) will host Upper Moreland on Tuesday.

WILLIAM TENNENT 8, UPPER DARBY 0
Sparked by hat tricks from midfielders Jackie Sowers and Tori Jones, the visiting Panthers scored early and often, opening up a 4-0 halftime lead on their way to the non-league rout.
Sowers got the ball rolling with a goal six minutes into the game. Ten minutes later, she scored her second goal, this one with a Kaitlin Frank assist. That 2-0 score stood until Brielle Langford scored with five minutes remaining in the half, and three minutes later, Jones found the net with her first goal, sending the Panthers into halftime with a four-goal advantage.
Two minutes into the second half, Jones scored again, and eight minutes later, Sowers connected for her third goal of the game. Theresa Ditri and Jones added back-to-back goals to close out the scoring, capping an explosive 10-minute stretch that saw the Panthers score three goals.
William Tennent (2-0, 1-0 SOL) will travel to Springfield Township on Tuesday.
