SOL Liberty Division
Upper Dublin 1, Plymouth Whitemarsh 0
Win pretty or win gritty, they all count the same.
That was the basic message of Cardinals coach John Topper’s talk to his team Tuesday night after a win that had been decidedly of the gritty type against a Colonials side that was up for the challenge. PW had come out with a plan and executed it well, so much that it took an individual moment from UD senior Erin Seabrook and a couple gutsy defensive plays to keep the Cardinals unbeaten in the SOL Liberty halfway through.
Healthy this season after missing most of her junior year with an injury, the St. Joe’s-bound Seabrook showed why she’s a foundational type player by scoring the winning goal and adding a goal-line clear to help it stand up.
Behind her, Jordyn Levine and the Cardinals defense picked up their fourth straight shutout, the senior keeper needing to make two big stops to deny quality looks from PW’s Maddie McGuckien and Liv Patete.
Scoring Summary
1st half – No score
2nd half
UD – Erin Seabrook 20:35 (1-0)
Upper Dublin coach John Topper on the win: “We know when we come here, it’s always going to be a hard-fought game. That’s a team that’s always physical, and we have a lot of fun games with them. It was a very even game, they made it difficult for us to play the way we wanted to play. They’re so dangerous on the set pieces and the throw-ins, my heart was in my throat a few times, but Jordyn was not giving up second chances, and I don’t know how Erin kept that one from going in off the goal line, but as I told the girls, sometimes you win pretty and tonight we had to win gritty.”
–On Seabrook’s impact: “Foundational is the perfect word for it. Tonight, she did it on both ends, she got on the scoresheet and was big in her own box, but every game, the things you see and the things you don’t see, she’s influencing every part of the game. She’s so smart, her timing and communication are so perfect, it’s hard to overstate what a positive she is for us.”
–Handling PW’s late surge: “We kept our composure well, there was a six or seven minute spell where it felt like PW was constantly in our box and anything could have happened but I was proud of the way our girls controlled the ball and controlled the tempo of the game.”
Upper Dublin senior Erin Seabrook on being back healthy: “Last year was really hard. This is my sport, I love playing this sport, so being back, I’m taking the right precautions to make sure I can keep having fun on the field.”
–On the goal: “I pulled wide and found a little space on the flank, so when I got the ball to my feet, I cut inside and beat my defender. I looked up because I had a ton of space, and when nobody stepped to me, I decided to take a shot and it went in.”
–The team’s strong start to the season: “We all love each other. We have great chemistry on and off the field, we love being around each other. This past Friday, we took the time to do some team bonding and just have fun off the ball. We’ve been having success with the wins, so we wanted to take the time to reward ourselves because we want to fight for each other and we can see it on the field.”
UD goalkeeper Jordyn Levine on her defense’s play: “We all trust each other a lot and we’re on the same page. During practices, we got to know what each other were capable of. I don’t see anyone as their grades, I just see good soccer players. We’re on varsity, we’re good enough to be there, so we own that spot.”
Up next: Upper Dublin (6-2, 5-0 SOL) visits Cheltenham at 3:30 on Thursday. PW (3-3-1, 1-3-1) travels to New Hope-Solebury at 7 on Thursday.
UPPER DUBLIN 0 1 – 1
PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 0 0 – 0
Quakertown 3, Abington 1
The Panthers used a stellar second half, powered by a pair of goals in a five-minute span, to pick up a quality result.
Quakertown, which still has a game to make up with Wissahickon to conclude its first half of division play, used a 52nd minute goal from Rachel McMonagle that saw the senior beat two defenders to hit a low strike to the right corner. Five minutes later, Anna Gingrich took a pass from Faith Greenday, beat a defender and finished.
Ashlyn Calabria capped the Panthers’ scoring, taking a pass from Jewel Renshaw off a short corner and finding the finish.
Scoring Summary
1st Half – No score
2nd Half
Q – Rachel McMonagle (1-0)
Q – Anna Gingrich (Faith Greenday) (2-0)
A – Kiera Clemson (2-1)
Q – Ashlyn Calabria (Jewel Renshaw) (3-1)
Quakertown coach Jon Gingrich on the win: “Our team as whole played well, we had been struggling a little bit to find our form, and we really came out to play tonight. Our effort was high, and we didn’t give up throughout the game. Abington is a tough team, they are coached well and they always bring a lot of effort. Our team as a whole really came out to play tonight, from starters to our bench players, we really kept up an extremely high effort for 80 min. ”
Standouts: “Our defense played extremely well. Junior centerbacks Anna Greenday and Jewel Renshaw and freshmen outside backs Maya James and Brielle Bailey were strong all night for us. Senior holding midfielder Taylor Kletzing was a beast in the midfield, she was all over the field either supporting our defense or playing great passes to our offensive unit.
“Junior center attacking midfielder Faith Greenday was also a beast tonight, she scored a goal and assisted on a goal. She really controlled the center of the field for us.”
Up next: Abington (4-5, 3-2 SOL) visits William Tennent at 3:30 on Thursday. Quakertown (4-3, 2-2) visits Springfield Twp at 3:30 on Thursday
QUAKERTOWN 0 3 – 3
ABINGTON 0 1 – 1
Wissahickon 0, Hatboro-Horsham 0
The Trojans and Hatters had their chances, but neither team was able to crack the opposing defense under the lights Tuesday.
HH coach Chris Artman: “Very proud of the girls’ effort tonight. In the first half, we were winning balls in the midfield and holding the possession. Toward the end of the half, we started getting players making runs in behind their defense and got some chances on goal.
“In the second half we picked up where we left off. We continued to apply pressure, getting runs in behind and just were unfortunate not to score. Junior Lily Harvey played really well and had multiple chances on goal. She is still working her way back into game shape as she was out with injury the first six games of the season. Fellow junior Ryleigh White played all 80 minutes and both overtime periods and was a constant threat to score. Unfortunately, we could not finish tonight. It was just one of those games.”
–Standouts: “Once again, our back line came up big. Juniors Leah Nelson, Maddy Morino, Cara Neeld and Madison Dugan played all 80 and both overtime periods. They shut down the strong Wissahickon strikers. Senior Keeper Molly Donaldson came up with a couple big saves in the first half to keep the game tied 0-0 at the half. We have gotten great goaltending all year from both Molly and fellow senior Riley McGuire.”
Wissahickon coach Chris McDaniels: “Our midfield did a nice job of managing the middle of the field. Lainey Werynski, Ingrid Kasenchar and Bailey Cohen were very solid defensively and got involved in the attack several times. Meredith Blight got the clean sheet with a bunch of nice stops.”
Up next: Hatboro-Horsham (3-4-1, 1-3-1 SOL) visits Upper Moreland at 3:30 on Thursday. Wissahickon (3-2-2, 0-2-2) visits Lower Moreland at 4 on Thursday.

SOL Colonial
Pennridge 3, Central Bucks West 2
Last week, Pennridge’s Avery Runk came a couple inches away from hitting a dramatic game-winner in overtime.
The junior defender would settle for getting the assist on the Rams’ winning goal that night, but on Tuesday, she got the glory to herself. Runk converted a free kick into a brilliant goal, putting her effort into the upper 90 in the final seconds of the first overtime to give Pennridge an important win in the SOL Colonial standings.
CB West showed plenty of fight, rallying back from a pair of one-goal deficits to force the overtime period.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
P – Rileey Williams (Madigan Posey (1-0)
CBW – Eva Wierzbowski (Emery Sterling) (1-1)
2nd Half
P – Kaylie Thran (Riley Williams) (2-1)
CBW – Eva Wierzbowski (Addie Herman) (2-2)
OT
P – Avery Runk (3-2)
Pennridge coach Audrey Anderson on the win: “We continue to learn that what we do, we do as a team. Tonight was a great example of that with three different goal scorers and many different players contributing to the win. Jessie Moylan continued to be a big presence in the air tonight. Addy Mills and Gabby Herrmann were very good at not giving up easy chances at goal and Natalie Walter and Avery Runk once again played dangerous balls into the box.”
Standouts: “Riley Williams was very good on the ball tonight, she played in the midfield and up top to help us keep the ball, so we could get more numbers forward. Kaylie Thran’s hard work in overtime was a big reason we had a goal scoring opportunity with 40 seconds left, and Avery Runk was able to hit an incredible ball into upper 90 to end the game.”
CB West coach Bree Benedict on the match: “Our team is showing such resilience and learning some really difficult lessons but maintaining our belief. Our first goal started with strong hold up play from Emery Sterling, who got a shot off that deflected off a defender into Eva Wierzbowski’s path. Eva was just ruthless in the box today. She buried it. Our second goal was a throw from Janelle Blokker to Emery Sterling on the goal line who crossed the ball to Addie Herman who found Eva Wierzbowski with just an excellent finish inside the post to tie it with seven minutes left. Credit to Pennridge for an excellent set piece goal to win it in overtime.”
CB West senior captain Eva Wierzbowski: “I’m so unbelievably proud of this team. I couldn’t have scored those two goals without them giving 110 percent effort, and I can’t wait to see how we go forward with this mentality.”
Up next: Pennridge (7-1, 4-1 SOL) hosts Neshaminy at 7 on Thursday. CB West (6-5, 2-3) hosts Council Rock North at 7 on Thursday.

CB East coach Jake Nesteruk on the win: “First off, credit to North Penn for putting us a bit on the back foot early in this one. Mia’s first goal was a big momentum swing for us and allowed us to settle in. Really proud of our girls for the effort put in as a group. As an entire unit, we had some really good games.”
–Props: “I thought Ava Mignon, Jessie Bernabe and Kiera Sleicher with Stella Genin and Cece Hayes rotating in did a nice job of keeping the game moving. Taylor and Ella Roumy were big for us tonight, and I thought Syd Ralph and Savannah Hayes gave us a strong foundation, which allowed Madelyn Hill and Mia Forney to have really big nights with the runs they got. Credit to our two keepers, Aralynn Patterson and Mae Leedy for their leadership tonight in earning the clean sheet.”

Our outside midfielders and forwards tonight did a great job connecting through the midfield into our offensive third to generate chances. It was nice to have a complete game with all players having a piece of the success.”

Goals were not in short supply as the Indians and Falcons battled for positioning in a competitive SOL Patriot table. After trading goals the entire first half, CR North got a second half brace from Bella Lanza on a volley off a throw and a header from a corner to down a Pennsbury team that’s given every opponent plenty to think about.

Pennsbury goal (4-3)
CR North coach Gavin Flannigan on the win: “A real back and forth game today but happy to come out with the win. I’m not sure it was our best performance this season, but credit to Pennsbury for applying pressure on us and causing us problems.
At halftime we made some adjustments defensively and stressed the need for more possession. Ironically our last two goals were from set pieces.
Isabella Lanza scored on a great volley on a throw in and then she was able to score on a header off a really good corner from Sydney Linus.
“A divisional win is always good, and it was great to see us score from set pieces, credit to Bella Lanza for coming up with two really nice finishes.”

Krissy Philip’s contributions on either side of halftime led the Golden Hawks to a win on Tuesday.
Phillip scored a goal in the first half and assisted the other after halftime, which was more than enough, thanks to three saves from Ella Mayberry in goal.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CRS – Krissy Philip (Macy Laidlaw) (1-0)
2nd Half
CRS – Teagan Shay (Krissy Philip) (2-0)
CR South coach Nick Heim on the win: “We are pleased with the effort and the result today. Bensalem is always organized and well coached, so staying patient in the attack was crucial for us. We made some minor adjustments throughout the game, and I thought that they really worked out well for us. We were able to get on the board midway through the first half when Macy Laidlaw found Krissy Philip on an overlapping run, and Krissy was able to slot one home to the lower corner. We continued to pressure but couldn’t extend our lead into halftime. We stressed the game plan at half and after a few posts hit, Krissy found Teagan Shay to score an insurance goal.”
Standouts: “I thought Kathryn O’Kane was dangerous today, and Kate Deal was fantastic. I thought overall our depth was a major factor for us as we were able to seamlessly switch formations and personnel throughout the game. Still have some fine tuning to do heading into Thursday’s crossover.”

Lower Moreland coach Todd Hill on the win: “The girls did a good job holding off a young and improving Upper Moreland team today. Though they put pressure on us and made us work hard throughout, our girls were disciplined and persistent and were able to get the result. Throughout the first half, there was some good back and forth, but our girls did a good job keeping the pressure on UM, getting lots of attacking opportunities. Many of those attacking opportunities came from freshman Emma Leibert, who had a really strong game today. I am really proud of her hard work.”
–Standouts: “A couple of our goals today came from finesse and creative soccer play, and a couple came from persistent effort that led to gutsy goals like the goals on headers from both Shannon Mahon and Emma Leibert. I am proud because the girls are learning that success in soccer requires both: skill and heart.
“At halftime we talked with our defensive unit about some changes they needed to make in the second half. This group of girls keeps showing grit and determination to make adjustments and up their game. Agnes Kroll continues to provide stability and maturity beyond her years anchoring this back line.”
Upper Moreland coach Lisa Benvenuto on the game: “We weren’t able to get into a flow today. We knew that Lower Moreland was going to playing direct, and we did our best to contain their attack. We have had to move some players around due to injury, regardless we weren’t able to connect. Maggie Brophy had strong game in the middle for us. Eva Gorrell gave us some solid minutes and was able to generate some of our attack. We will learn from this game and turn some things around for Thursday as we enter inter league play.”
