It was a special day at Council Rock South on Saturday when the two teams squared off in the annual Legacy Cup game. Adding to the emotion was the fact that it was the second annual North/South Festival Day, an entire day of games pitting the neighboring rivals in numerous sports.
“It was a fun day- the second year in a row all North South fall sports (minus football) played each other on the same day at the same venue,” Rock South coach Nick Heim said. “There was a ton of people at South today which was an awesome opportunity for our game to be featured.”
Saturday’s showdown featured a battle of elite defenses. North has not given up a goal this season, and that didn’t change Saturday, but the Golden Hawks – who boast a string of five straight shutouts – kept their impressive streak alive as well, forcing both teams to settle for the scoreless tie.
Council Rock South coach Nick Heim:
–A special rivalry: “The CR Derby was long awaited after the earlier meeting this year was postponed due to weather. Both teams and staffs know each other so well, it usually comes down to one minor difference that decides the game. I thought both teams had moments where they had the better spell of things, and each goalie had to make a big save to keep the score tied.
“We knew it would be a defensive battle- North hadn’t given up a goal yet this year and we have gone five straight doing the same. Each defense rose to the occasion limiting the dangerous pieces for each side. North poses some challenges across the field, but I thought we got great efforts, especially considering it was our fourth game this week.”
–Props: “I thought our backs were especially strong- Krissy Philip, Kate Hickey, Lianna Shikhvarger, and Zoya
Joshua. Ruby Bross and Anna Horn played a full 80 today in a physical midfield and I thought or forward rotation put in a good shift throughout.
With the rescheduled earlier game, we got back at it again Thursday night under the lights at North.”
Council Rock North coach Gavin Flannigan:
–The game: “A very fair outcome between two teams that didn’t give an inch all afternoon.
“I thought South were more aggressive than us in the first half, but I thought we had the better of the second half. Both teams had a good chance, and both keepers made great saves.
–Props: “Our defensive unit today was very good, Bella Lanza, Sophia Milich, Cierra Frank, Annie Mills and Emma Mandato backed up with Sophia Mills in goal did a great job containing South.”
Up next: Council Rock North will be on the road at Pennsbury, and Council Rock South will host Bensalem on Tuesday.

In a battle of neighboring rivals, it was the Knights earning an impressive win over the visiting Crusaders.
Xienna Bachman’s early goal 10 minutes in stood as the game-winner. Bachman also contributed an assist on Elizabeth Cherry’s first varsity goal in the second half that put the Knights on top 2-0. Jadyn Sperling put the finishing touches on the win with an unassisted goal.
Catie Ciotti earned the clean sheet in goal for the Knights.
Scoring Summary
First half
NP – Xienna Bachmann from Alyssa Chartrand (NP)
Second half
NP – Elizabeth Cherry from Xienna Bachmann (NP)
NP – Jadyn Sperling (NP)
The game: “We really controlled the play and possession, and they made some good plays defensively to keep the score close. Felt like we had a lot of opportunities and just couldn’t finish some. It’s always a nice little crosstown rivalry game with them, so I feel like they always play us tough.
“First goal came about 10 minutes in when Alyssa Chartrand played Xienna Bachmann who was composed and beat a defender and then placed it into the side netting. She’s shown real composure in the box for us this season. We had some more chances, and their goalie made a few really good saves to keep it 1-0 at the half.
“Second half we went up two when Xienna played a ball to Elizabeth Cherry, and she beat a defender and beat the goalie far side. She has been really looking good in practices, and it was great to see her get her first varsity goal. We added another when Jadyn Sperling connected on great shot from the top of the 18 that sailed in under the bar.”
–A team effort: “Solid team effort to hold the shutout and get everyone involved today. Catie Ciotti got the start in net today and she was aggressive when she needed to but was great in distribution and talking to the back line. I felt like we had a lot of girls step up and play really well today.”
Up next: North Penn will host Souderton on Tuesday (5pm).

Central Bucks East 3, Conestoga 0
Kiera Sleicher gave the Patriots an early 1-0 lead in the 12th minute, turning a Taylor Roumy pass into a goal that stood as the game-winner.
Sleicher added a second goal in the second half, and Roumy also found the back of the net for the 3-0 final.
Conestoga – a perennial district power – is an uncharacteristic 2-3-2, but this was still a quality win for the Patriots, who improved to 8-0-1.
Scoring Summary
1st half
CBE – Kiera Sleicher from Taylor Roumy (CBE) 12th minute
2nd half
CBE – Taylor Roumy from Addie Langlois (CBE) 41st minute
CBE – Kiera Sleicher from Liz Mooney (CBE) 57th minute
Central Bucks East coach Jake Nesteruk:
“I thought this was a very comprehensive win for us. Conestoga is always incredibly well prepared and coached, and I thought our kids got better as this game progressed. I thought despite the early goal from Kiera, we were just a bit passive in our approach, and I think our kids came out in the second half and really put their stamp on the game.”
Up next: Central Bucks East will hold its Morgan’s Message/Mental Health Awareness Game on Tuesday when the Patriots host Central Bucks West (7pm).
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 1 2 – 3
