Non-league
Neshaminy 2, Abington 0
Wet weather and a grass field meant Neshaminy couldn’t afford to be sloppy against host Abington on Monday.
A goal on each side of halftime proved to be enough, the visitors not quite connecting at their usual rate offensively but doing enough to keep their miscues from impacting the game.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
N – Kylie Maxwell (Abby Collins)
2nd Half
N – Anna Axenroth
Neshaminy coach Josh van Reed on the win: “It had just started to rain as we were getting started, so we talked about minimizing mistakes and not giving away opportunities to our opponents. The weather can make things difficult sometimes. I thought we did a nice job today of maintaining possession. Rick always has Abington well prepared, they have a game plan and make adjustments.”
Standout effort: “Anna Axenroth did great for us today, getting the ball wide and holding her position. We were able to locate her throughout the game in the midfield and she was able to link up and scored a really nice goal today. I was very happy with the chances we were creating. There were some good balls across the goal mouth from Kylie we just couldn’t seem to get the timing right to finish. But it was a good win against a good team.”
First goal: “After receiving the ball form the wing, Abby Collins cut the ball to her right and quickly put a through ball into space where Kylie could settle and finish beneath the keeper as she was diving.”
Second goal: “Anna intercepted a ball from 25 yards out. She touched forward and took on the defender, beater her and finishing with her left foot in the back corner.”
Up next: Neshaminy (10-2, 5-0 SOL) hosts William Tennent at 7pm on Wednesday. Abington (5-6-1, 3-2-0) hosts Pennridge at 7pm on Wednesday.

“Senior holding midfielder Taylor Kletzing was huge for us tonight, she locked down the center of the field and provided us with an early goal. Senior Rachel McMonagle had a strong game. She was winning the ball all over the field and putting consistent pressure on Bensalem’s defense all night.”

The Titans had their attacking in fine form Monday.
Olivia Wade and Madelyn Roe each tallied a brace, both scoring one goal on either side of halftime, to lead the prolific offense. Riley Karpinski, Camilla Wright and Morgan Hughes also found the back of the net as the Titans applied consistent pressure.
Defensively, the team secured its fourth shutout of the season behind a united effort from the backs and goalkeepers

CB South coach Pat Lordi: “Goals came in bunches today. We created 14 shots on goal and 14 corners – that’s how good we were in the attack today. The entire team played exceptional today. Our ball movement was nice to watch.
“The midfield continues to improve their connection with the forwards to create opportunities in the final third. When we are committed to put in the work as a team we are tough to play against. I am so proud of all the players and their commitment to get better and compete in a tough league.”
–Defensive effort: “It was a shutout effort by goalkeepers Brooke Rosica and Morgan Sowash. Props to the defenders Tenley rogers, Delaney Rowe, Grace Keane, Elizabeth Kelly, Ella Kim Nd Megan Schimidt.”
New Hope-Solebury coach Laura Motley on the game: “We knew tonight’s game was going to be a difficult one. Central Bucks South is a very talented team with a lot of depth. The girls kept fighting and didn’t give up. Elizabeth Brennan and Rebecca Peterson both had a great game.”

Central Bucks West 2, Lower Moreland 0
The Lions came into Monday’s matchup with the Bucks in fine form, having won nine in a row.
CB West came out determined, with an emphasis to be first to every ball. Avery Markowitz, who always brings plenty of hustle and energy, netted the game winner in the first half while Andy Friel was the first one to a second half corner kick by Eva Wierzbowski to collect the insurance tally.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CBW – Avery Markowitz
2nd Half
CBW – Andy Friel (Eva Wierzbowski)
CB West coach Bree Benedict on the win: “As a group we’ve been talking about trying to be first. This afternoon the girls did a nice job of being first to the ball, connecting their first pass, and getting on the scoreboard first. Avery Markowitz cleaned up a loose ball in the box on a rainy day to put us up 1-0. Our defense did a fantastic job of connecting in transition which sprung Mackenzie Gausch and Eva Wierzbowski to work with our forwards to create opportunities. We were a little unfortunate to not put away a few more good looks, but with the rain, we did a nice job of managing the game. We won a corner in the second half, Eva Wierzbowski served the back post and Andy Friel finished it.”
–Standouts: “Our defenders – Kaia Ward, Janelle Blokker, Mia Menard, and Kira Winn – were difficult to break down. Maura Duffy was a physical presence in midfield today and won countless head balls and 50/50s. I was really proud of the efforts of every player on our team. Everyone contributed minutes and didn’t let our standards slip.”
Lower Moreland coach Todd Hill on the match: “Tough loss against a talented CB West team today. They put a lot of pressure on us throughout. I am proud of my girls’ effort. We kept the game within reach and continued to threaten throughout.”
–LM props: “Sophomore center back Agnes Kroll had a really strong showing. She is so smart and is never outmatched. Keeper Mariah Gazzara also played really consistently in goal today. We will learn from today and improve for the next game.”
Up next: CB West (8-5, 2-3 SOL) visits Wissahickon at 3:30 on Wednesday. Lower Moreland (9-2, 5-0) visits Council Rock North at 7pm on Wednesday.

Rebounding is generally associated more with basketball, but sometimes the best goal scoring chances in soccer can come off the rebound of a stopped shot.
CR North’s crash game was the difference on Monday, as all three Indians goals came as the result of players being willing to follow the ball into the box and be ready for a follow-up. Amanda Gardner got one before halftime while junior Audrey Rogan had a put-back brace in the second half.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CRN – Amanda Gardner (Mia Cairone)
2nd Half
CRN – Audrey Rogan
CRN – Audrey Rogan
CR North coach Gavin Flannigan on the win: “A nice win today on the road. I felt like we were comfortable during the game and had the majority of the possession, but it took us a while to put the game away. We created some good openings in the first half, but the Wiss keeper had some solid saves and came off the line to deny us a couple of times. Eventually, we found Mia Cairone in behind, and although she was denied, Amanda Gardner was there to follow up and finish for the opening goal.
“In the second half, it was much the same, and we added two more goals on rebounds, Audrey Rogan scored twice after making the effort to follow up.
Defense and depth: “It was pleasing to score three and keep the clean sheet today. We were also able to continue using our depth which helped as we were missing a couple of girls. Sydney Linus and Addison Martin did a really good job in the middle of the field while Kinsley Smith, Audrey Thomson and Alexa Pikul were solid in the back to limit chances.”
Up next: CR North (9-3, 4-1 SOL) hosts Lower Moreland at 7pm on Wednesday. Wissahickon (3-4-2, 0-2-2) hosts CB West at 3:30 on Wednesday.

Council Rock South 1, Hatboro-Horsham 0 (2 OT)
The Golden Hawks and Hatters have met quite frequently in recent years and more often than not, it’s a pretty tight match when they do.
Monday’s crossover was no different, the Hawks needing two overtimes and a great goal from Juliette Salvi to solve a tough Hatters’ defense. While there was only one goal, there were plenty of opportunities as CR South got plenty of contributions up and down the lineup.
Scoring Summary
OT2
CRS – Juliette Salvi
CR South coach Nick Heim on the win: “Not an unfamiliar slate, as we’ve played H-H in non- league games for the last eight years or so. I thought we jumped out on a good foot and continued to settle in nicely. We created numerous chances, just couldn’t seem to link that final pass in the right spot or make the goalie work hard enough for a goal. Credit to their keeper today- she was fantastic. Our manager had her at 15 saves which is simply incredible. H-H was organized and tough to crack, and that says a lot, knowing they have some of their more experienced players out right now.”
Game-winner: “With 3:49 to play in the second OT, Juliette Salvi hammered home a set piece that finally beat their goalie, and we walked out with what we feel is a well-deserved win. Salvi really deserved the game winner: she has been as solid as they come for us in the back and is very much a leader in the program. Good to see her get one on the set pieces she works so hard on.”
Standouts: “I thought Kathryn O’Kane was dynamic for us today, as well as Teagan Shay. We are finding what works in the starting lineup, and today we had great minutes off the bench from Brianna Howard, Ruby Bross, Gia Littig, and Lianna Shikhvarger. On any given day, they can all start so we see it more of a ‘good problem’ to have that depth.”
Up next: CR South (5-4, 3-2 SOL) hosts Upper Moreland at 3:30 on Wednesday. Hatboro-Horsham (4-5-1, 1-3-1) hosts Central Bucks East at 3:45 on Wednesday.

North Penn 5, Springfield Twp 2
Maddy Murphy directed a productive afternoon for the Knights attack on Monday.
The senior, bound for the University of Buffalo next year, scored two goals and assisted on two others as she continues to be a potent option at the center of North Penn’s front line. Lily McGee opened the scoring off a Murphy pass, and then following a Spartans goal to tie it, Murphy crushed a look from outside the 18-yard box.
Paula Fernandez followed up a saved shot for the eventual game-winner for the Knights, who added some insurance on a Paige Gladfelter rocket teed up by Murphy before the senior wrapped up the scoring.

North Penn coach Mike Rio on the win: “I thought Izzy Kee had a great game in the midfield and Paige Gladfelter also played really well distributing for us in the midfield. Good energy all around today, and I was happy with how the team controlled the game. We had a few other really good chances from Mila Rogozinski and Paige Gladfelter that their keeper really made a couple of phenomenal saves on.”

Pennridge 1, William Tennent 0
The Rams had to solve defensive-minded Panthers team backed up by some formidable goalkeeping on Monday.
Tennent senior Aubrie Maldonaldo proved a serious roadblock to the Pennridge attack, making numerous saves and disrupting set pieces. It would take a special goal from Addy Mills for Pennridge to emerge on the winning side.
Scoring Summary
2nd Half
P – Addy Mills (Emma Shaeffer)
Pennridge coach Audrey Anderson on the win: “I thought today we moved the ball well, we were incredibly unlucky in front of the net today, and their keeper had a bunch of saves. Addy Mills scored from about 30 yards out. It was a well hit ball that soared into the upper 90, not much the keeper could have done to make the save.
“It’s great when you see your teammates all do their part plus more to help win games. We are learning that we have a lot of players who can score goals and players who can step into different roles on the field when needed.”
William Tennent coach Elise Jara on her team’s play: “We knew going into this game that we were considered the underdog. I believe the team took this to heart and played the best complete 80 minutes of the season. We were in a defensive formation for the majority of the game and knew this would put us at a disadvantage. Playing this way does not allow us to create opportunities offensively and gives the lone striker a lot of ground to cover. The girls up top did a great job of applying pressure when needed.”
Standouts: “The midfield and defense played a cohesive game and made very few mistakes while handeling the ball and making good decisions. Sami Roby, Mia Rahn, Abi Meehan, Lia Jablonowski and Margot Vant Hoenderdaal played a very strong game defensively.”
Lights-out goalkeeping: “The star of the game for us though was the play of senior keeper Aubrie Maldonado. She was aggresive off her line and made excellent decisions overall. She got a touch on just about every corner they had. As a coaching staff, we were very proud of the way the team played today.”
Up next: Pennridge (9-1, 4-1 SOL) visits Abington at 7pm on Wednesday. Tennent(7-3-1, 4-1) visits Neshaminy at 7pm on Wednesday.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 3, Pennsbury 2 (OT)
The setting wasn’t exactly ideal for the Colonials.
Following a night game road win at New Hope-Solebury last Thursday and a fixture with a quality West Chester Rustin side on Friday afternoon, the Colonials had a weekend off. It meant they went into Monday’s match with the Falcons, a team they hadn’t played in coach TJ DeLucia’s nine years with the program, without a practice to prepare.
Pennsbury came in with plenty of energy, following coach Jenna Peters’ induction into the school’s athletic hall of fame on Friday night and a team trip to the Utah Royals-Gotham FC NWSL match on Sunday.
PW rallied twice, then found a winner in extra time to pick up a gutsy win to start the week.
Scoring Summary

2nd Half

Pennsbury goald
PW – Keira Whelan (Liv Patete) 67′

PW – Maddie McGuckien (Maddi Lazaroff) 83′
PW coach TJ DeLucia on the win: “We gave up a goal two minutes into the game. And with the way things have been going, it would have been very easy for our team to put our heads down and call it a day. They continued to battle and played a pretty solid first half.
“We didn’t make any halftime adjustments as we felt pretty good about where we were at. We just needed a goal. Junior forward Keira Whelan answered the call just two minutes into the second half. Liv Budin took a shot from outside the 18, and Whelan got her foot on it to put it past the Pennsbury keeper.”
–Back and forth second half: “A few minutes later, Pennsbury answered with a goal from deep. Our team stuck together, kept after it, and with 13 minutes left in regulation, Liv Patete played a ball into Keira Whelan in the box who put it in the back of the net for her first brace of the season.”
–Overtime: “We sold out a bit to score at the end of regulation but with no luck. Two minutes into the first overtime, goalkeeper Olivia Bragg made a nice save and punted to Mia Baron at midfield. Mia found Keira Whelan’s feet in offensive transition who played sophomore midfielder Maddi Lazaroff out wide. Maddi played an early cross in and earned us a corner. Lazaroff took the corner and played a beautiful ball to junior midfielder Maddi McGuckien, who put the ball in the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season and a much-needed game winner for our team.”
Standouts: “Our backline of Maddi McLaughlin, Katie Lukens, Kaiane Jayo, and Harper Reilly played well all game against some dangerous Pennsbury forwards and wingers.”
PW’s fight: “The biggest takeaway for me today is that in a few games this season, we’ve had a tendency to put our head down after we give up a goal in the second half. Today, there wasn’t one player who put their head down after Pennsbury went up 2-1. They went right back at ’em and kept fighting. That’s a good sign moving forward.”

CB East coach Jake Nesteruk on the win: “Proud of our girls for the effort and focus they brought to this game. Mia got us going early with her first, and it got us into a good rhythm going forward. She was lethal in front of goal today, and the entire group did a great job of building off that early start. Overall, looking to build off this game and get a bit sharper as we work through two more games this week.”
Upper Moreland coach Lisa Benvenuto on the match: “Today we faced a really talented opponent in Central Bucks East. In every game we play, we stress to our girls to show up for one another, to play to the final whistle and that’s what we did today. Gracie Costello had another tremendous outing today. There was a lot of action in our defensive third, and Gracie did a really great job of reading the shots and getting a hand to them. Defensively, Annalise Messina was a workhorse, as were Lizzie Walker, Deanna Swedberg and Kayla Robinson. We learned a lot from this match up and will continue to improve through the week.”
