SOL CONTINENTAL
CB SOUTH 1, CB EAST 0
It was a pitched, back-and-forth duel between two quality teams Tuesday afternoon, decided only by a late goal.
South's Kylie Walsh handed her side a hard-earned win in the 76th minute when she raced onto and collected a through ball from Corinne McDonald then slotted the ball home in the corner of the net. With neither team willing to give up anything easy, it was a tactical adjustment that helped the Titans break through.
"It was a see-saw defensive battle in the first half," South coach Betsy Bullock said. "We were able to play more possession soccer in the second half, which created opportunities.
"We played more high-pressure which helped us start to dispossess East from the ball and allowed us to start playing to players' feet."
South's hallmark defensive unit was again in fine form, especially against an East team that had been playing excellent soccer lately. Senior goalkeeper Sophia Boggs made seven stops in net, all of them vital.
"It was a great game by Katie Bloom, Bri Talbot and Abby Brown. We pressured and controlled major parts of the game but were unable to convert scoring opportunities," East coach Paul Eisold said. "South defended well and scored late in the game."
The defensive effort started in the midfield, where McDonald and Chelsea Nichols were instrumental in creating the pressure on East and winning the ball for the Titans. Behind them, the back line of Krysta Reading, Nicole Wills, Courtney Taylor, Margot Centofanti and Laurel Crouse played great, Bullock said.
"We play team defense but are always aware of some of the opposing team's target players," Bullock said.
On the occassion that South's defense was broken down, the Titans' keeper had her teammates' backs. One sequence in the second half summed up everything Boggs means to her team.
"She had to come off her line in the second half, and following a misdirected kick, ran down the forward to prevent a shot on goal," Bullock said.
Central Bucks South (9-1, 5-1 SOL) will host Souderton on Thursday, and Central Bucks East (5-5, 3-3) will host North Penn on Thursday.

PENNRIDGE 2, NORTH PENN 1
The Rams withstood a ferocious second half effort from the Knights to pick up a road win on Tuesday.
Erin Stevenson assisted both Pennridge goals, a first half volley by Abby Groff and a second half tally by Melissa Lyon 45 seconds into the half. Pennridge wasn't as crisp as usual, much of that having to do with North Penn's pressure.
"It's hard to be 'on' all the time and that was one of our struggles, connecting passes," Rams coach Audrey Anderson said. "We had good ideas but just couldn't execute them."
Amelia Eshraghi scored the lone goal for North Penn on assists from Anna Pedicone and Riley Houlihan. The Knights were unlucky, hitting a post and the crossbar in the second half.
North Penn keeper Hannah Lambert had a big game, recording nine saves on the evening, including a second half breakaway to keep it a one-goal game.
"We expect that every game we play is going to be a tough game," Anderson said. "This conference, we're beating each other up to try and get those playoff spots. If a coach comes into any of these games feeling like 'we're just going to win,' it's a mistake. The conference is too strong to do that."
Stevenson was a key player in the midfield and late on the back line helping seal the win. Despite not playing their best, the Rams were able to keep composure under the late pressure.
"They've been playing together for a long time and feel comfortable with each other," Anderson said. "They feel confident. We make mistakes and hope to limit those mistakes but we try to focus if one player's going in for a ball, we talk about having each other's backs."
Pennridge (8-1, 5-1 SOL) will be on the road at Hatboro-Horsham on Friday, and North Penn (4-6, 2-4) will travel to Central Bucks East at Thursday on 5 p.m.

HATBORO-HORSHAM 2, CHELTENHAM 0
The Hatters' connection between Emma Roesing and Erica Paluszek was on point Tuesday night.
Roesing bagged a brace, both assisted by Paluszek, to lead the Hatters to a league win.
"We knew today that getting runs out of the midfield would be key for us, but Emma usually doesn't play so high up the field," Hatters coach Ike Onyeador said. "We usually look for Cam Ryan to make those runs. Today, Emma took it upon herself to fill those spaces.
"Erica is just a special player who can find anybody up there and she did what she does."
The Hatter's coach continued that his team played well as a whole and responded to a halftime challenge to make the outcome a result of their effort on the field. No player better demonstrated that than Paluszek.
"Erica was probably our MVP of the match with how many aerial battles she won today," Onyedaor said. "She made it so we did not have to defend as much, which was the game-changer for us."
Hatboro-Horsham (3-4-2, 3-2-2 SOL) will host Springfield on Thursday, and Cheltenham (0-7, 0-6) will host Upper Dublin on Thursday.
