SOL Colonial
Central Bucks East 2, Pennridge 1
Last season, the Patriots carried the distinction of being the only team to take points off the Rams, playing to a 1-1 draw on Sept 6, 2023. That tie was the only non-win in a 25-0-1 state and district championship season for Pennridge.
The same date a year later saw CB East do one better, handing Pennridge its first loss since the PIAA Class 4A championship game against Central Dauphin in November 2022. Matches between the programs have been extremely competitive in recent years, so it wasn’t surprising that the first of two this season played out the same.
East jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the half thanks to a sterling effort from senior Buffalo recruit Jessie Bernabe, doubled it up after half on a well-struck free kick by Mia Forney then had to battle to the finish after Pennridge senior Jessie Moylan, bound for Richmond, converted at the spot to cut it in half.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
CBE – Jessie Bernabe (Madelyn Hill) 26:58
2nd Half
CBE – Mia Forney 37:25
P – Jessie Moylan (PK) 20:46
CB East coach Jake Nesteruk on the win: “I thought this one had all the makings of a game you’d see at the more pointed end of the season and am very proud of our group earning this result. We knew going in that Pennridge is and always has been incredibly difficult to match, and I’m sure will be even more so next time we see them. That’s such a testament to their girls and coach. I thought their group had the better run of the play for the majority of the first half. I think we did enough in key moments, made a couple key blocks, disruptions of their attack, and saves to keep the clean sheet going into halftime.”
–East striking first: “We definitely were a bit caught off by the pace of the game and found ourselves relying on the transition game. A little before the 20-minute mark, we were able to break forward, connect a couple of passes down the right flank, and Jessie just made the absolute best out of a really difficult shot. It eased the pressure for us for a bit.”
–Taking a 2-0 lead: “The second half came out with a flying start. Mia hit a great free kick to extend the lead and from there we settled into possession a bit more. Credit to Pennridge for continuing to push and earned a PK with 20 minutes remaining.”
–Standout effort: “We know this season is early, and we have plenty of room to grow, so we are just taking it a game at a time. It’s good for this group to get tested like this and proud of the girls for coming out with a win on the road. How we attack often gets the spotlight, and deservedly so, but this result doesn’t happen without a massive game from our Back four – Syd Ralph, Savannah Hayes, Taylor and Ella Roumy and our keepers: Mae Leedy and Aralynn Patterson.”
Up next: CB East(4-0, 2-0 SOL) visits Souderton at 6:30 pm on Tuesday. Pennridge (4-1, 1-1) visits North Penn at 3:30 on Tuesday.
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 1 1 – 2
PENNRIDGE 0 1 – 1
Central Bucks West 1, Souderton 0
It turned out to be a “grind out the result” type of week for the Bucks, but that’s something they’re plenty comfortable with. Even with a few key names relegated to spectating roles while battling illness, their teammates rallied to the cause to scrape out three important points in what looks to be an extremely competitive table.
Emery Sterling continued to have a major influence on the proceedings, the energetic junior forward racking up the assist on Friday’s winner after sparking West’s second half comeback on Wednesday.
Scoring Summary
2nd Half
CBW – Mia Menard (Emery Sterling)
CB West coach Bree Benedict on the win: “Today was a really gritty team win. We were down a few regular starters due to illness, but we got great play from Mia Menard and Kaia Ward. Mackenzie Gausch, Maura Duffy, Mia Menard, Allie Pisch, and Lauren Overbeck all did a great job being physical in the midfield and getting the ball to our forwards quickly. Emery Sterling continues to bring us energy and hustle up top, Avery Markowitz, Anna McGrath, Rian Detweiler, and Reegan Moran gave us great wide play winning a lot of corners and getting services into the box.”
–Defensive efforts: “Our backline has been putting in a lot of work on their organization and they did a great job today staying connected and keeping the game in front of them. Fallon Darrows had a strong performance in net with a great diving save to keep it 0-0 in the second half. Credit Souderton’s keeper who made a few really great stops and their entire defense for being difficult to break down.”
CB West forward Emery Sterling “The team battled hard the whole game and went into overtime knowing we had to put one away. Reegan passed a great ball to me, I was able to beat a girl and get to the end line. Mia was making a great run which made her easy to find for a perfectly placed finish! It’s great to see the team’s hard work paying off and get two wins this week!”
CB West senior defender Cece Funseth “Our team came out strong at the start of both halves, but there were moments when we had to dig deep and pick up the energy. Our underclassmen really stepped up and made huge contributions today, which was amazing to see. Before overtime started, the coaches reminded us how important it was to focus on clean passing and staying connected as a team. That advice paid off with the final play — our speed and teamwork really showed. It started with great connections up the field, when Emery took off down towards the far end, delivering a perfect cross for Mia to finish with the game-winner. It was a total team effort, and I couldn’t be prouder of how everyone contributed.”
CB West forward Mia Menard on the game winner: “Honestly it all happened so fast! Emery made a really great run down the sideline and when I saw her start to make that run, I remembered what the coaches had said at half time about getting forward on the attack. I saw an opportunity and ended up right in front of the goal where I could just tap it in!”

The first 40 minutes were all CB South. The second 40 minutes were all North Penn.
It felt like the next 10 minutes were anyone’s to take. Thanks to a whistle with 10 seconds left and a composed PK from Alana Peev, it was the Titans claiming all three points and reversing the result from their overtime loss to CB East earlier in the week

Neshaminy 3, Council Rock South 2
Neshaminy senior Abby Collins has proven to be the type of player who not only finds herself in the big moments but also rises to them.
So when a ball from Keira Siwinski found Collins in front of goal in the second overtime Friday, the midfielder looked like she’d been through it all before. Collins wasn’t deterred by the two defenders in close vicinity, instead getting free of one before ripping a terrific shot past the keeper for a dramatic and important early-season win to cap a 3-0-0 week.
The goal was the finishing touch on a wild game that saw Neshaminy take an early lead behind Kylie Maxwell, concede the next two goals, then tie it thanks to Taylor Maxwell as the twins continued their high-scoring
ways.
Scoring Summary
1st half
N – Kylie Maxwell (Abby Collins) 33:15
CRS goal – 7:06
2nd half
CRS goal – 35:50
N – Taylor Maxwell (Aislyn Fitzgerald) 17:30
OT2
N – Abby Collins (Keira Siwinski)
Neshaminy coach Josh Van Reed on the win: “Going into today’s game we wanted to keep our shape and play soccer. We know we can create chances and the first 20 minutes of the game we did just that – controlled the ball, and Kylie scored early on a through ball from Abby. We had chances but nothing else was going in, and South continued to work hard and were rewarded when a ball came through and our keeper Alexis had to come way out to make a save and they collected and turned a broken play into a goal. For the remainder of the half there were chances both ways.”
–Second half action: “At halftime, we just reminded them about maintaining position. Unfortunately, South struck first and scored off a missed ball in transition. I was very proud of the girls’ response. They didn’t panic, they just settled down and continued to play soccer. And we had some very
good chances to respond immediately. South’s keeper had a great day and made some very good and smart stops. It wasn’t until 17 min left that we were able to break through when Aislyn Fitzgerald drove endline and dropped a ball back for Taylor Maxwell who tied the game for us. The rest of the half there were chances both ways.”
–Overtime drive: “At the start of overtime, I was confident we could score. The girls are fit even though it was our third game in four days, I knew they had enough in the tank. We were still getting good chances. In the first overtime, a quick combination play put Kylie through, but South’s center back made a sliding tackle to just disrupt the ball.”
–Winning goal: “With the second overtime winding down, Kylie gained possession in the corner and was able to find a cross to Taylor who dropped the ball back to Keira and she had the good sense to see Abby in a better position. Abby took one touch and finished with her left. With 23 seconds left, the patience and possession finally paid off.
“These tight hard-fought games in our league are fun to watch and be a part of and what we expect each time we meet.”

Council Rock North 2, Bensalem 0
The results haven’t been there yet, but the rest of the SOL Patriot knows not to overlook Bensalem. While the Indians rebounded from their first loss of the season with a resounding victory on Wednesday, they knew matching the Owls’ energy would be pivotal on Friday.
Thanks to a spirited effort from senior Sara Tyler, the Albany-bound senior contributing a goal and an assist, CR North made it a 2-0 week as what’s looking like another rugged year in the SOL Patriot starts to take place.
Scoring Summary
1st half
CRN – Sara Tyler
2nd half
CRN – Mia Cairone (Sara Tyler)
CR North coach Gavin Flannigan on the win: “Pleased with our team performance today. We matched Bensalem’s intensity and had some very good spells of possession and combination play.
“We have played six games now, 1/3 of our season. It’s pleasing to see that the depth we have continues to be a positive factor for us. We hope to continue that as we get into the middle of our schedule.”
–Indians goals: “Our first goal came midway through the first half when Sara Tyler followed up on a tackle and calmly hit the ball from 20 yards into the bottom corner. Our second goal was early in the second half when Sara found Mia Cairone who was able to beat a defender and go round the keeper to finish.”
–CR North standouts: “Sara Tyler did a great job today in possession, she gave us a spark at times to create chances, Sydney Linus and Addison Martin also did a good job in possession and managing the space defensively. Our rotations have proven to be effective, our back line was solid, Bella Lanza, Tavi Copestick, Audrey Thomson, Alexa Pikul, Kinsley Smith, Amanda Gardner and Amber Yuan all contributed to our clean sheet and limited the chances on goal.”

A pair of home games gave the Cardinals a chance to get their footing back this week. After a shutout loss at Strath Haven then coming up on the short end of a nine-goal scorefest at Gwynedd Mercy Academy, UD rallied for two solid wins against SOL Liberty foes that always play them close.
Wednesday, it took dramatics in overtime. Friday, the Cards didn’t need extra time, thanks to a robust second half that has them alone atop the table for the time being.
Scoring Summary
UD – Peyton Ward (Rosie Sitman) 44′
UD – Erin Seabrook (Shannon Connaughton) 77′
Upper Dublin coach John Topper on the win: “It was back-and-forth in the first half, I thought we moved the ball well and both teams created some chances that neither of us were able to capitalize on. Last week, we gave up a bunch of goals in the Gwynedd Mercy game, but we’ve really tightened it up since, they’re really starting to work well as a unit.”
–Peyton Ward’s impact: “She brings another dimension to the game. She’s so composed on the ball, she’s shown that when we get it to her feet, we know we’re going to be able to move forward and start the attack through her. It’s been a goal of ours to find her feet and we’re seeing good things where not only is she scoring goals but creating for her teammates.”
–UD defensive standouts: “Our centerbacks Olivia Broome and Brooke Ellner did a nice job in front of Srija Chaudhuri who got the shutout as our keeper today.”
Up next: Upper Dublin (3-2, 2-0 SOL) travels to Quakertown at 3:30 on Tuesday. Abington (2-4, 1-1) will be on the road at Wissahickon.

Quakertown 2, Hatboro-Horsham 1
Wednesday, the Panthers built a halftime lead, then saw it come apart in a loss to Plymouth Whitemarsh. Friday, they again got off to a good start then built on it and made sure the result stuck.
Quakertown senior Ashlyn Calabria, heading to Millersville next year to keep playing, continued her tremendous start to the season by netting a brace for her team. Calabria has four goals in the last three games, two of them counting as the game-winners against CB West and the Hatters.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
Q – Ashlyn Calabria (Rachel McMonigle) 23′
Q – Ashlyn Calabria (Faith Greenaday) 35′
HH – Lexi Cohen
Quakertown coach Jon Gingrich on the win: “Senior Ashlyn Calabria had a great game, her movement all over the field is why we were able to get two goals in the first half.”
–Panthers defensive standouts: “Senior Madison Taylor was exceptional in defense tonight. She controlled our back line, shutting down Hatboro’s offense all game. Junior Jewel Renshaw was also exceptional in defense. In the four games we have played this year, Jewel has played in four different positions, having a player who has played solid in four different positions has been so important to our success.”
Hatboro-Horsham coach Chris Artman: “Very hard-fought, physical game from the opening whistle. Every ball challenged by both teams. We had played hard in spurts the first few games but today we played hard for a full 80 minutes. The effort today was outstanding and is the bar for all games going forward
Hatters standouts: “Our midfield had a tough challenge going up against Qtown junior Faith Greenday, who is an outstanding box-to-box center mid. I was proud of our girls’ effort defending her. We had great defensive effort by juniors Maddy Morino, Cara Neeld and Madison Dugan.”

Olivia Lore would not be beaten.
Wissahickon’s senior goalkeeper put in a career effort in goal under a constant barrage of pressure from the Colonials and simply refused to yield. An injury robbed Lore of her sophomore season, but she proved to be a difference maker in goal last year and again so far this fall, recording her third shutout.
Scoring Summary
No goals
Wissahickon coach Chris McDaniels on Lore’s performance: “She had 18 saves. Breakaways, point blank shots, crosses, deflections – didn’t matter. She was incredible today. They pressured our back line and had more of the ball all game, but our defense always found a way to keep them off the board.”
–Trojan defensive standouts: “A combination of players and formations including Ellie Stein, Lannah Werynski, Kaylee Hammond, Julia Lentz and Brooke Collins were constantly scrambling, but managed to keep the game deadlocked. On the offensive side, Danny Brog provided a burst of energy in the second half that led to some offense for us.”
PW coach TJ DeLucia: “First team all-league performance from the Wiss goalkeeper. Credit to her. Today was a missed opportunity for us after creating many chances, an extremely frustrating result. It’s not going to get any easier for us in league play so we’ll see how we respond next week.”

Lower Moreland 2, Springfield Twp 1
Following a tough loss to defending PIAA Class A champion Dock Mennonite in their opener, the Lions had gotten into a good groove offensively. Lower Moreland put away an early chance Friday, only for the young but resilient Spartans to level the score and force extra time.
LM found its way through, but the Spartans have continued to show plenty of fight as they work to firm up their identity.
Scoring Summary
1st Half
LM – Nikki Sahl (Shannon Mahon)
ST – Liz Hanushchak (Ava Brnic)
OT
LM – Ruby Levin (Quinn Rozanski)
Lower Moreland coach Todd Hill on the win: “We had a really good battle with Springfield today. Springfield is a really physically strong team. They knew how to use their bodies well and shielded us off the ball throughout the game. We had to overcome that challenge to pull off a win in overtime today.
“I was proud of the way my girls played today. They worked really hard through all 85 minutes of the game.”
First-half scoring: “Nikki Sahl and Shannon Mahon were creating some really creative attacks through the first half, and after some hard work Shannon sent a ball in front of the goal where Nikki capitalized with a nice shot to take the lead around 13 minutes into the game. Springfield answered with a really difficult shot into the top corner to equalize the game.”
Finding a winner: “Our girls were really committed, in spite of being weary, to play intelligent and aggressive soccer in OT. And they did. We moved the ball well and put pressure on Springfield, creating a number of corner kick opportunities. On our final corner kick, the ball was loose in the box. Quinn Rozanski punched the ball through the box and Ruby Levin had a gutsy attack on the ball, sending it into the back of the net for the win.”
LM standouts: “Payge Lennon dominated the 50/50 balls throughout the game. Kenna Rozanski was the motor that kept us going, remaining a strong presence in the middle. Agnes Kroll was very strong in the back, anchoring our back line. And Violet Levin played a really strong game at wing back, both as a defensive presence, as well as attacking out of the back line. I am really proud of all of the girls’ efforts today.”
Springfield Twp coach Chris Tomarelli: “Olivia Gatewood was fantastic in goal for us today.”

Leah King had an active first half, netting a goal and an assist for Golden Bears side that was efficient in keeping and moving the ball offensively. Upper Moreland has been able to share the wealth in the attacking end so far this season and kept that up with three different scorers on Friday.
The results haven’t come together yet for the Lions, who have been dealing with an early rash of injuries, but the team is starting to take positive steps.

Upper Moreland coach Lisa Benvenuto on the win: “Today’s win was a solid team effort. We were able to control the ball, move it through our system and generate an attack. We had three different goal scorers and it started with Ava Warga getting her first varsity goal. Leah King was a standout today, she had a really solid showing. We had a good rotation of girls getting on the field which helped in keeping our legs fresh. I am really proud of the way the girls finished this week, and we will continue to put in the work and carry this momentum into next week.”
New Hope-Solebury coach Laura Motley: “The second half the girls started to find a rhythm and we were able to maintain possession and get some chances on net. We are a young team that has unfortunately suffered a number of key player injuries this season, but the team is starting to step up to fill those roles and I’m proud of the girls for finishing strong. Jaime Gugger and Hailey Castellano both had standout games today.”
