Continental Conference
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, PENNRIDGE 2 (2OT)
Two of the favorites in the Continental Conference met Tuesday afternoon, and it took 97 minutes for a team to come out on top.
Central Bucks East’s Emma Loving scored her second goal of the game in double overtime as the Patriots squeaked by the reigning conference champions.
“The first game in league is always tough, and playing Pennridge, who is always a great team, is even more difficult,” CB East coach Paul Eisold said. “We were able to get over the hump.”
Loving scored first for the Patriots in the 10th minute to give East a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the 47th minute, Maddie Myrtetus made it 2-0 on a goal assisted by Paige Weiss.
Pennridge, however, answered back in the waning minutes of regulation. With 5:25 to play, Erin Stevenson crossed the ball to Katie Fischer for a header to cut the Patriots’ lead to one. With just under three minutes to play, Kennedy Peace found Jess Milligan on a through ball for the goal, tying the game at two and sending it into extra time.
It all set up Loving’s game-winner. The senior forward drew the Rams’ goalkeeper forward, and she tapped the ball past her for the goal. Eisold called it a “routine play” for the skilled Loving.
“Emma Loving was terrific today,” the Patriots’ coach said. “She has that do-or-die attitude and she wants to be successful on the field.”
Eisold was pleased with his team’s goalkeeping today. He split time between senior Katie Dolf, who made eight saves, and freshman Kristen Obetz, who had four saves of her own.
The Patriots will need to find a balance between enjoying the big win and refocusing for their next game.
“Pennridge has won the league the last several years, so beating them the first game of the season is absolutely huge for us,” Eisold added of a Rams’ squad that has won the last four conference crowns. “That said, we also know there’s a lot of soccer to be played so you take it for what it worth.”
Central Bucks East (2-0, 1-0 SOL) will travel to North Penn on Friday while Pennridge (1-1, 0-1) will host Central Bucks West in a key conference battle.

Bullock knows the path will be tough for her team in the Continental Conference, so she’s pleased to get the first win from the Lady Maidens.
“I think the key today was we played possession and moved forward as a team,” she said. “I think we’re going to hopefully move up into the upper echelon. We’re a young team. It’s a very competitive league. It was not an easy game against North Penn.”
