CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1 (25-19, 25-22, 20-25, 25-23)
In a battle of neighboring rivals, it was the Patriots earning the hard-fought win.
“It was a great match between two very strong schools in the Continental Conference,” East coach Scott Geller said. “East played smart, aggressive and determined. (The match) was filled with lots of energy and great volleyball.”
It was a team effort for the Patriots who received big performances from Natalie Arm (six kills, eight aces, one block), Bridget Terrel (six kills, five aces), Kelly Guillen (seven kills, four blocks), Julia Gallagher (six kills, three blocks) and Hannah LaMond (four kills, four blocks).
Setter Lauren Helveston had 30 assists and three aces, and Erin Lane led the defense with 10 digs and one ace.
For the Bucks, Sophia Videva had 12 kills, five aces, 1.5 blocks and six digs, and Julia Schweibenz had eight kills and seven digs. Kayla King added three kills, one ace, 25 assists and six digs, and Kelly McKinstry had one ace and 28 digs.
WILLIAM TENNENT 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-9, 25-1, 25-7)
In a remarkable display of serving, Aleandria Dakota Koppany had 21 aces in Friday’s match. She also had 13 assists. Catherine Zhushman had 10 aces for the Panthers, who were without Jaime Bonner (injury)
The second set was remarkable in that Zhushman served for 17 straight points. After an error, the Panthers won the next point, and Koppany closed out the match with seven straight aces.
“We said that without our best hitters we had to rely on serves,” coach Brian Bassler said. “They went after each other.
“That will get harder as the week goes on with the tough competition, but that was crazy to watch.”
UPPER DUBLIN 3, NORRISTOWN 1 (25-16, 25-13, 25-12)
Taylor Stek had nine kills, one ace and three digs to lead the Flying Cardinals. Jenny McCaneney added eight kills and three digs, and Alison Gouveia had five kills.
NORTH PENN 3, SOUDERTON 2 (20-25, 25-15,
The Maidens earned a hard-fought win in a battle of neighboring rivals.
Hannah Simon led the Maidens with 12 kills, six digs, one ace and one block. Sammy Powers had eight kills, five aces and two solo blocks. Amy Pastuszak and Aidan Wagenhoffer both added seven kills with Pastuszak adding five digs and three blocks. Wagenhoffer had one block. Setter Kelly Patterson had 33 assists, two aces, four digs and two kills.
For the Indians, Savannah Bostwick had 24 digs to lead the defense. Cori Watson had 32 assists and eight aces. Monica Miller and Megan Freed both had big nights at the net with 12 and 10 kills respectively. Melissa Gould added four kills.
The Indians will compete in the Quakertown Invitational Tournament Saturday.
