American Conference
UPPER MERION 3, HATBORO-HORSHAM 0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-21)
The Vikings exacted a degree of revenge when they defeated the visiting Hatters in the SOL opener for both squads. Last season, it was the Hatters breaking the Vikings’ remarkable streak of 107 American Conference wins in a row.
“You can change the players, but you can still count on a nail biter between Hatboro-Horsham and Upper Merion,” UM coach Tony Funsten said.
The Vikings rolled to a win in the opening set, but the Hatters made things interesting in the second and third sets.
UM’s Carlye Odorisio had 18 service points and 18 assists. Carolyn Helenski had 12 kills and Tori Wright added seven for the Vikings.
UPPER DUBLIN 3, ABINGTON 1 (25-17, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22)
The Flying Cardinals earned an important win, defeating the Ghosts in a hard-fought battle.
“It was a very good match against Abington, who is very strong in their offense,” UD coach Paul Choi said. “This was a total team effort win.
“Upper Dublin played very well defensively and stayed aggressive throughout the match.”
Setter Bryn Stek had 33 assists and also contributed seven kills, 13 digs and one ace in a standout effort. Outside hitter Jenny McAneney had a huge night at the net, delivering 16 kills to go along with three aces and five digs. Libero Josie Barrett had 17 digs, three aces and one kill.
For the Ghosts, senior Leah Simmons led the way with 13 kills and four aces. Claire Gassman added nine kills. Setter Emma Garg had 21 assists as well as three kills and three aces.
PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 3, CHELTENHAM 0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-14)
Danielle Rippert led the Colonials at the net and the service line, contributing 10 kills and six aces. Oliva Carbo led the defense with 17 digs.
NORRISTOWN 3, WISSAHICKON 1
Continental Conference
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, PENNRIDGE 0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-20)
The Patriots travelled to Perkasie and handed the defending Continental Conference champions a loss in the league opener for both squads.
“What a great way to start the season,” East coach Scott Geller said. “The Patriots came ready to play, and it showed.
“From the first couple of points of the match, we never looked back. At times although close, we remained calm and composed. It was a great all-around team effort and a well-rounded, balanced attack.”
Setter Madie D’Angelo spread the ball around, contributing 29 assists, two digs and two aces. Devon Hall led a strong service game with seven aces. Leading a balanced attack were Natalie Arm (seven kills), Jenn Krzeminnski (seven kills, two aces), Krista Helveston (six kills, three digs), Julia Gallagher (five kills, three blocks) and Kate Woolsey (four kills). Erin Lane led the defense with six digs.
For the Lady Rams, Steph Judkins led the way with seven kills, two aces and two blocks. Maddie Mosser had four blocks and three kills, and Ana Vitantonio had 12 assists.
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, NORTH PENN 1 (21-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-18)
The Titans dropped the first set of Tuesday’s SOL opener but rallied to win the next three. Megan Manderson led the Titans at the net with nine kills to go along with three digs and five aces. Sarah Poli had five kills, three digs and five aces, and Breana Jackson added six aces, three kills and two blocks. Setter Erin Cleary handed out 22 assists to go along with four kills and one ace. Sydney Hauser had three kills and one block.
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, QUAKERTOWN 0
Sophia Videva had a monster night at the service line, delivering 11 aces for the Bucks. She also had six kills and four blocks. Katie Hudson added four aces to go along with 10 kills while Julia Schweibenz had six kills, two aces and one block. Setter Kayla King had 28 assists as well as two kills, one ace and seven digs. Kailey Prall led the defense with eight digs, and April Neeld had five kills.
For the Panthers, Shiann Alpha had three kills, one block and two aces, and Skylar Lee had a pair of kills. Alisa Buonannno led the defense with 11 digs.
National Conference
COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, WILLIAM TENNENT 0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-13)
The Indians opened their season with an impressive win over the Panthers. Morgan Collito led a balanced attack with seven kills, three aces, five digs and one block, and Katie Rentz added six kills, two aces and five digs. Aly Kulken contributed six kills, three digs and two blocks.
When it was over, coach Michael Adams tipped his hat to former coach Kinsey Lynch.
“A big thanks to coach Kinsey Lynch for preparing the girls so well and creating such a fantastic program with great traditions,” the Indians’ first-year coach said.
Tennent coach Brian Bassler credited the Indians for a strong showing.
“That is one talented CR North team,” he said. “I was very impressed.
“I was also impressed with our girls, especially our back row. They hung in there and dug up a lot of attacks. We have some work to do, but there were some encouraging things we took from tonight.”
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, HARRY S TRUMAN 0 (25-7, 25-18, 25-16)
Senior outside hitter Grace Laggan led a strong South service game with six aces to go along with three kills. Senior middle Elaina Budny added four aces while sophomore middle Hannah Sullivan had three aces and three kills. Sophomore Hannah Devlin (five assists) and senior Kelsey McGill (four assists) split the setting duties.
NESHAMINY 3, BENSALEM 0
Miranda Foster led the Redskins, contributing six kills, five aces and eight digs in an all-around effort. Mackenzie Maher added five kills, three aces and three blocks, and Crystal Teoh added seven aces and five kills. Jillian Willis contributed four kills and six digs while setter Olivia Lynch had 11 assists.
PENNSBURY 3, SOUTHERN LEHIGH 0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-16)
Elle Patterson slammed down 18 kills in a huge performance at the net to lead the Falcons to the non-league win. Setter Kate Foley had 36 assists.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 0 (25-9, 27-25, 25-22
Senior Sarah Poli had a big night at the net, contributing 14 kills to go along with two aces. Megan Manderson added seven kills, three blocks and one ace. Senior setter Erin Cleary was credited with 29 assists and also had four aces, one block and two kills. Sophomore Sara Eckelmeyer, who served for 11 points and had only one service error, had three kills and two blocks. Eckelmeyer's serving run keyed a remarkable comeback in the third set that saw the Titans rally from a 19-11 deficit to earn the win.
