BURLINGTON COUNTY 4, SOL NATIONAL/BICENTENNIAL 1
It was a tough day at the ballpark for the SOL National/Bicentennial squad at FDR Park on Tuesday. The squad did not include any Neshaminy players since the Redskins were still in the PIAA 6A state playoffs, and from the outset, the SOL National/BAL struggled to find its offense.
Pennsbury’s Sam Ruta – who had two of his team’s five hits – picked up a one-out single to right in the first inning. Burlington County starter Brian McMonagle struck out the next two batters he faced.
In the third inning, the SOL National/BAL put a pair of runners on board with two outs when William Tennent’s Xavier Delgado was safe on an error, and Ruta singled to left. The threat ended when Delgado was gunned down at third base.
The SOL National/BAL managed one hit in both the fourth – Pennsbury’s Justin Fogel singled- and the fifth – a single by Pennsbury’s RJ Huth. Burlington County took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth and added a run in the sixth.
In the top of the eighth, the SOL National/BAL put a run on the scoreboard to cut Burlington County’s lead in half. Harry S Truman’s Evan Profy drew a leadoff walk, and Council Rock South’s Luke Gregory was hit by a pitch. Two outs later, Harry S Truman’s Dylan Jackson delivered an RBI single, plating the team’s only run of the game.
Burlington County answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning for the 4-1 final.
On the mound, Faith Christian Academy’s Carter Heller allowed just one hit in three scoreless innings to open the game. Pennsbury’s Devin Sweeney threw a scoreless seventh. Council Rock South’s Michael Rabayda, who absorbed the loss, allowed two hits and one run in two innings.
