“Today just wasn’t our day. We have a few new girls out in the field and a few others in new positions, so we knew there’d be some bumps in the road early. But at this level, we can’t make excuses, so we will keep working to clean it up and get better.
“We have six more games over the next two weeks, so we have to put this one behind us and focus on the next game.”
–A bright spot: “Offensively, I was pleased with a lot of things. I thought we had really good pitch selection against one of the top pitchers in the state. We were able to scratch out seven hits against her just couldn’t string too many together outside that third inning. That rally was started with a big triple after a great at-bat from Anna Powel, followed by three straight singles from Gia Bono, Rian Reed and Addie Antenucci. Beyond that, we just couldn’t string together solid contact.”

INTERBORO 2, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 1
The Buccaneers plated a pair of runs in the top of the first, and the visiting Indians never could dig their way out of that early hole.
Both teams collected just four hits. The Indians scored their only run in the top of the fourth when they staged a two-out rally. Chelsea Seiler lined a double to right field, and she scored when Sierra Klein followed with a single to center. Just like that it was a 2-1 game, but that’s as close as the Indians would get.
Mia Kiskurno was strong in relief for the Indians, allowing just one hit in four shutout innings. She fanned two and did not walk a batter.
Council Rock North coach Susan Yee: “After committing only one error in 14 preseason innings, two errors (both) on the opening play of the game, and a third error, all in the first inning, set the tone for us today. It was a hole we just couldn’t climb out of.
“Interboro is a solid squad. Their pitcher did a great job of hitting her spots and keeping our hitters from squaring up the ball, while their defense made all the plays behind her.
“I was proud of the girls for refocusing after that sloppy first inning and staying together as a group, battling until the final out. Although this was obviously not the way we wanted to start off our season, ultimately, I think we will learn from this experience and become stronger from it moving forward.”
