HATBORO-HORSHAM 5, METHACTON 2

Hatboro-Horsham traveled to Methacton High School for the opening day of the softball season. The Hatters graduated three key starters in Jen Cader, Jaynie Black and Lexie Campbell and feature a rather young and inexperienced lineup heading into the season.
The Hatters showed no signs of a slow start coming out of the preseason as they exploded for a five-run lead after the first inning. The Hatters generated five runs from three RBI doubles from Brynn Griffith, Deanna Moyer and Kyleigh Dineen.
Taylor Sciubba had an outstanding day in the circle, holding Methacton to six scoreless innings with their only two runs coming in the seventh. Sciubba recorded nine strikeouts on the day.
The Hatters were led offensively by freshman Rachel Carney, who was 3-for-3 on the day. Deanna Moyer recorded three hits out of four attempts and added an RBI, and Kyleigh Dineen was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base.
Hatboro-Horsham (1-0) will host Lansdale Catholic in a non-league contest on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.

PENNRIDGE 9, GWYNEDD MERCY 3
The Rams seized control of Thursday’s opener early, plating a pair of runs in both the first and second innings to go on top 4-0 They led 8-1 before the Monarchs scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 9-3 final.
“It was a big confidence booster,” said first-year coach Carol Atkinson. “These girls have worked extremely hard in the offseason and have set some pretty high goals for themselves, so to start the season off, this was a big win.”
In the top of the first, the Rams benefitted from a sacrifice fly from Grace McGinley as well as an RBI single by Kylie Watson to go on top 2-0. They took a 4-0 lead in the fifth when McGinley delivered a solo home run.
The Rams tacked on three more runs in the sixth, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Sam Harty, an RBI groundout by Kiera Swanson and an RBI single by McGinley.
Meghan Bauer – one of four pitchers on the roster – earned the win in the circle, fanning eight while allowing just two hits and no earned runs.
“She pitched really well,” Atkinson said of her junior hurler. “She’s a lefty that didn’t get a lot of mound time last year.
“She’s worked real hard in the offseason, and she came out really strong today.”
McGinley led the Rams with a 2-for-2 effort that included three RBIs and a run scored. Harty was 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Krista Yerk was 2-for 2 with one RBI and one run scored. Meghan Johnson was 2-for-3 with a run scored while Kailyn Bell was 1-for-2 with a pair of runs scored.
Pennridge (1-0) will host Christopher Dock in a non-league title on Monday at Druckenmiller Playground (3:45 p.m.).

QUAKERTOWN 6, PALISADES 3
The Panthers turned a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 lead with a three-run fourth inning on their way to the non-league win. Tara Baglivo’s two-run single highlighted the three-run uprising.
Lauren Beal finished the game 2-for-3 with a double and RBI. Emma McLaughlin was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Meghan Klee contributed a double and also scored a run. Spenser Gray scored a pair for the Panthers.
The Panthers got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Pirates responded with two of their own in the second. The Panthers knotted the score 2-2 when McLaughlin, who singled, scored on a passed ball. The Pirates came back to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth, but the Panthers won it with three runs in the bottom of the inning and tacked on an insurance run in the fifth.
Alyssa Wilkinson earned the win in the circle, scattering five hits and allowing two earned runs. She struck out five and walked one.
Kerstin Koenig absorbed the loss for the Panthers, allowing seven hits and four earned runs with seven strikeouts and three walks.
“Their pitcher is a nice player,” Quakertown coach Rich Scott said of Koenig. “She pitched a pretty darn good game, and she drove in two of their three runs.”
Quakertown (1-0) will be on the road at Southern Lehigh for a non-league contest on Monday.

NORRISTOWN 19, POTTSTOWN 2
The Eagles and Trojans exchanged runs in the first inning, battling to a 2-2 tie. The visiting Eagles scored a pair of runs in the third and then exploded for seven runs in the fourth. They brought an early end to the game with eight runs in the sixth.
Vanessa Limbert led the Eagles’ offensive onslaught with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate that included four RBIs. Ashley Kinsey was 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Steph Orman earned the win in the circle, allowing five hits and walking one in six solid innings.
Norristown (1-0) will travel to Upper Dublin next Thursday for its SOL opener.
