North Penn & Souderton picked up wins in SOL softball action on Saturday.
Non-league
NORTH PENN 13, AVONWORTH 0 (5 innings)
As beginnings go, it’s been a downright spectacular one for the Knights, who capped their trip to Myrtle Beach with another gem.
Julia Shearer once again worked her magic, tossing her second no-hitter in as many outings. She fanned 12 and did not walk a batter. In 10 innings so far this spring, she has allowed no hits and no runs while striking out 23.
If that’s not enough, Shearer has also been a terror to opposing pitchers at the plate. In Saturday’s win, she was 4-for-4 with a triple and four runs scored. In two games, she was 7-for-8 with three RBIs.
The junior standout had plenty of support in Saturday’s win. Sarah Sabocsik was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, two runs scored and four RBIs. Brie Wilmot was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. In two games, Willmot was 5-for-8 with seven RBIs while Sabocsik was 3-for-5 with three walks and five RBIs.
In two days, the team combined for 25 hits, 24 runs and eight extra base hits.
“It was a great trip of team bonding, great practices and awesome games where everyone got to play in 68-degree sunny weather,” coach Rick Torresani said.
North Penn (2-0) will host Council Rock South on Wednesday.
SOUDERTON 4, DEER LAKES (Pa.) 0
Abby Burns turned in a glittering four-hit complete game shutout, striking out 12 and walking none to propel the Indians to their second win in as many days.
Burns helped her own cause with a triple in the fourth that led to the team’s first run. That 1-0 lead stood until the sixth inning when the Indians tacked on another run. Abby Burns collected the big hit in the inning, a double.
In the seventh, the Indians added a pair of runs with Riley York’s RBI double the lone hit of the inning.
Burns was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI to lead the Indians, who managed just five hits.
Souderton (2-0) will travel to Upper Perkiomen for a non-league game on Thursday.
