ABINGTON 3, CHELTENHAM 2
Freshman Olivia Bernstein came through with a triple to plate Jade Sowell in the top of the seventh inning, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving the visiting Ghosts a lead they would not lose in a battle of the neighboring rivals.
“I told the kids – any time when we can go somewhere and walk out with a ‘W,’ I’ll take it,” Abington coach Ellie White said. “It doesn’t matter how it’s done. If we walk out with a win, that’s a successful day.”
It looked as though the Ghosts might not need any late-game heroics when they jumped out to a 2-0 lead. They plated a single run in the first and tacked a second run on in the second when Jess Paley, who tripled to the fence, scored on Jamie Gosselin’s RBI single.
The Ghosts took that 2-0 lead into the sixth when the Lady Panthers came roaring back. Freshman Morgan Gianelle doubled, and Becca Simms followed with an RBI triple. Maddie Baer’s RBI single knotted the score 2-2, setting the stage for Bernstein’s seventh inning heroics.
Gosselin led the Ghosts at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort while Nicolette Ray and Paley each had a pair of hits.
Ray also earned the win on the mound, allowing five hits while walking one and fanning four.

HATBORO-HORSHAM 3, CONESTOGA 2
Things didn’t exactly look promising when the Hatters went into the bottom of the seventh trailing 2-0. Making the two-run deficit look especially formidable was the fact that the Hatters had managed just one hit through six innings, and that was a bunt single by freshman Kylie Deneen. But with the chips down, the Hatters suddenly came to life offensively.
Jen Cader ignited the rally when – with one out – she legged out an infield single. Jaynie Black followed with a single to put runners on the corner, but it looked like that might be as far as they would get when the second out was recorded on a popup.
But the Hatters weren’t finished yet.
Deneen (2-for-3) delivered an RBI single to right field to make it a 2-1 game, and junior Bridget Shaeffer followed with an RBI single to knot the score. The Hatters won it in dramatic fashion when pinch hitter Kaeli Simmons hit a ball into the gap to plate the winning run.
“Hopefully that builds confidence for the future,” coach Joe DiFilippo said. “Jen Cader challenged them before we came in to hit.
“That’s what you get with senior leadership – Jen and Jaynie Black.”
Sophomore Taylor Sciubba earned the win in relief, allowing one hit in two innings. She fanned three. Lexi Campbell threw the first five innings.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 6, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 0
The Golden Hawks rebounded from a disappointing outing against Abington one day earlier to shut out the Crusaders in a non-league contest Friday.
“It was bad,” coach Greg Heydet said of his team’s 20-5 loss to the Ghosts. “Honestly, we said nothing to the team after last night.
“They knew they had to get it together. They know there are better teams out there, and we have to work hard.”
The Golden Hawks pounded out 14 hits on a day that saw everyone in the lineup contribute at least one hit. Amanda Sharp led the Golden Hawks with three hits – including a double. Mikayla Becker and Katelyn Gaudet added a pair of hits.
A four-run uprising in the second was all the Hawks would need, but they added single runs in the fourth and seventh. Stephanie Andreoli’s two-run double was the big blow in the second.
Andreoli also earned the win in the circle, allowing five hits while fanning one and striking out two.
