COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2, NESHAMINY 1
The Golden Hawks made history on Tuesday, earning their program’s first ever win over perennial district power Neshaminy, and according to coach Greg Heydet, they had a little help from an unexpected source.
“Honestly, the wind was blowing in a little from left,” the Golden Hawks’ coach said. “They had four balls that might have been out, and the wind held them up. We caught four of them at the fence.
“Somebody up there was helping me, but we hit the ball hard all game too. “Honestly, we had a great practice yesterday. I told them if they came with that intensity and determined, we could beat them.”
The Golden Hawks got on the scoreboard first in the third inning. Katelyn Gaudet led off the frame with a tremendous at-bat, battling back from an 0-2 count to draw a walk. Jackie Schneider’s sacrifice sent Gaudet to second, and she scored on Steph Andreoli’s clutch two-out single.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Redskins evened the score. Sophie Beretski singled, and with two outs, Mackensie Compton delivered an RBI double to knot the score 1-1.
That tie was short lived as the Golden Hawks scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth. With one out, Andreoli legged out a bunt single, and back-to-back singles with two outs by Mikayla Becker and Amanda Sharp (RBI) plated a run that turned out to be the game winner.
Andreoli did the rest, silencing the Redskins’ bats for the final two innings to propel the Hawks to the historic win. The sophomore pitcher allowed just two hits and two walks, but the Hawks committed five errors.
“She was a key play on offense and defense,” Heydet said of Andreoli. “We just hung tough.
“Five errors is enough to lose a game. I want my team to know we’ve got to stop these errors.”
Amber Brugger, who absorbed her first loss of the season, would have been a winner on most days with a five-hit effort that saw the freshman hurler fan three and walk one.
The Golden Hawks upped their record to 3-2 in league play (5-3 overall) while the Redskins are 5-1 in the league (9-1 overall).

QUAKERTOWN 10, PENNRIDGE 2
The Panthers exploded for 18 hits to earn an impressive win over the Lady Rams at Druckenmiller Park on Tuesday night. It was their first conference win of the season.
“Our girls are capable of doing that every night, so hopefully this is something that will continue on now,” coach Rich Scott said. “It’s crazy – there’s no way we should be in the hole we’re in.
“The kids are solid in the field. We’ve literally stopped practicing defense and just practicing hitting.”
That hitting practice paid dividends as there were offensive heroes galore for the Panthers. Spenser Gray once again set the tone out of the leadoff spot, finishing 4-for-5 with two RBIs, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Tara Baglivo was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored. Hillary Scott finished the game 4-for-5 with three runs scored, and Emma McLaughlin was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Lauren Beal delivered the game’s big blow – a three-run double to highlight a four-run second inning.
“Scoring four runs was big,” Scott said. “It’s much easier to pitch when you have the lead.”
The Panthers led 6-1 after three and took a 6-2 lead into the sixth when they exploded for four more runs to put the finishing touches on the win.
“It’s a big win because we needed this,” Scott said. “We needed this to push us over the top.
“I told them after the game – they’re capable of doing this every game. They’re too good of a team to lose these games by one run. They’re much better than that. Hopefully, this will push us over the top.”
For Pennridge, Morgan Labs delivering a solo home run in the second, and Julia Helbling hit a solo shot in the fourth to account for the Rams’ only runs.
Alyssa Wilkinson earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs while walking two and fanning two. Megan Johnson pitched a scoreless seventh to close it out.
Both teams are 1-6 in league play after one go-round, and both are 3-6 overall.

SOUDERTON 5, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 0
Alex Scheeler was in complete command on the mound, allowing just three hits while fanning seven and walking three in a complete game shutout.
“I just feel as though Alex is becoming a great pitcher,” coach Steph Rummel said of her freshman hurler. “She’s been getting better every game and gaining more confidence.
“Even her strikeout-to-walk ratio is phenomenal. She’s doing her job very well. She’s actually getting a lot of balls right back to her.
“She was getting a little bit frustrated today because she wasn’t getting the calls she wanted as a pitcher, but I think one thing Alex needs to work on – and we’ve talked about it – is putting the ball in other people’s hands and not feeling like she has to be in complete control at all times.”
The Indians plated the only run Scheeler would need in the second. Morgan Yoder stroke a triple, and later in the inning, an RBI groundout by Missy Wiley put the Indians on the scoreboard.
It was a 2-0 game after Wiley collected an RBI single in the fourth, and Scheeler helped her own cause with an RBI single in the fifth to put the Indians on top 3-0. An RBI triple by Nicole Link highlighted a two-run seventh for the Indians.
Yoder had a pair of hits to lead the Indians.
Souderton upped its record to 6-1 in conference play (7-2 overall) while the Patriots are 4-3 in the league (6-5 overall).
