COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 1, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0
In a contest that was the very definition of a pitcher’s duel, it was Lexi Waring emerging the winner in a contest neither the Rock South sophomore or West’s Sienna Lawson deserved to lose.
“Both pitchers were brilliant,” Rock South coach Dan Schram said. “It was great classic softball on both sides.
“Hats off to CB West – a good team. We started noticing that their division is playing at a different frequency, and if you’re going to be successful, you’re going to have to play every inning and every out. It was a great team win and certainly one we needed after the game we had Wednesday at CB East (a 6-1 loss).”
In the complete game shutout, Waring allowed just three hits while striking out 14 and walking one.
“The bigger the situation, the more she shows up – that’s the only way I can say it,” Schram said of Waring. “She’s a big game pitcher. She’s so balanced. If there’s runners on base, she’s unfazed.”
The Golden Hawks scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Kaylie Walters singled up the middle and stole second. She moved up to third on a passed ball and scored a run that was the game-winner on Avery Tumolo’s suicide squeeze.
“The count was 1-1, we called a squeeze bunt, and we bring her in,” Schram said.
It took a game-saving catch by Ameerah Wheet in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the 1-0 lead and the win.
“With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, they had (a runner on second), and Chloe Dryden, who is a monster hitter, gets up,” Schram said. “She hit a shot to left center that – if you didn’t put a glove on it – was either going to hit the yellow piping or it was going to go over, and Ameerah probably made a 30-yard dash for that ball and caught that ball to end the game. That’s how it ended – incredible.”
Wheet wasn’t the only player to deliver a defensive gem.
“When we got to the thick of things, it was the sixth inning – there was a line drive, diving catch Avery Tumolo made at third that really, really changed the tone of the
game and would have been a big problem, “Schram said. “Then she comes in and executes that squeeze bunt play in the bottom of the inning. What a great kid – absolutely clutch.”
For the Bucks, Lawson pitched well enough to win most days, and the West junior had a remarkable week with a 1-0 win over Souderton on Monday and a 3-2 win over Council Rock North in 13 innings on Wednesday in a contest that included nine shutout innings before both teams scored a run in the 10th with the international tiebreaker in effect.
In Friday’s loss, Lawson allowed four hits and one run while striking out eight and walking none. For the week, Lawson – who was 2-1 – allowed just 15 hits and three runs in 27 innings while striking out 35 and walking three.
Council Rock South (8-2, 5-2 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks South on Tuesday, and Central Bucks West (5-5, 3-4) will be on the road at Bensalem.

NORTH PENN 10, NESHAMINY 0 (5 innings)
The Knights pounded out 12 hits, and Julia Shearer tossed another shutout.
If that sounds familiar, it is. Friday’s win was North Penn’s 10th without a loss, and in those 10 games, the Knights have outscored their opponents 99-2.
There’s no mistaking, the Knights are on a mission after seeing their season end one game shy of the state title game last year, and so far this season, they’ve been a buzzsaw, rarely going the full seven innings.
After Shearer struck out the side in the top of the first in Friday’s win, the Knights put a pair on the board in the bottom of the inning. Shearer was safe on a two-base error, and one out later, Annabelle Smink singled Shearer home with a run that would turn out to be the game-winner. Brie Wilmot drew a free pass, and with two outs, Sophia Orth singled to center, plating Smink and giving the Knights a 2-0 lead.
Casey Sokol led off the second with a single, and one out later, Shearer singled. Sarah Sabocsik drew a walk to load the bases for Smink, who delivered an RBI single. A walk to Wilmot pushed another run across, and the Knights led 4-0.
in the top of the third, Rachel Allen broke up Shearer’s string of seven straight strikeouts to open the game with a line single to right field. Shearer struck out the next two batters she faced, and Allen never advanced past first.
The Knights blew the game wide open in their half of the third. With one out, Sokol lined a double to center, and then came a two-out rally. Shearer ripped a two-run home run to center field. Sabocsik followed with a bunt single, and Smink lined a single to center. Wilmot’s single to center plated a pair, and Gianna Cimino kept the inning alive with a double to right. A walk to Orth loaded the bases, and Bella Nunn singled to right, plating a pair and giving the Knights their final margin of victory.
Shearer struck out 12 in the abbreviated contest and did not walk a batter. She also was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Smink’s 3-for-3 effort at the plate led the Knights and included two RBIs and two runs scored. Sokol was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
North Penn (11-0, 7-0 SOL) will host Council Rock North on Tuesday, and Neshaminy (6-6, 5-4) will host Pennridge on Tuesday.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 15, NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 3 (5 innings)
The Colonials put six runs on the board in the first inning and rode their big bats and the solid pitching of Moly Moore and Grace Carney to the decisive win in Friday’s crossover game.
“All four of our pitchers were able to get time in the circle this week,” PW coach Mike Perez said. “It is really nice to be able to trust any of our pitchers on the roster to come in and get the job done.”
Moore did not allow a hit in one shutout inning and struck out a pair. Carney threw four innings, allowing three hits and three runs (one earned) while striking out eight and walking one.”
“Grace is such an amazing teammate, always putting the team above herself, so it was nice for her to get some extended time in the circle,” Perez said of his senior pitcher/first baseman. “She pitched really well for us today. What a gorgeous day for softball.”
After Moore retired the side in order in the top of the first, the Colonials went to work at the plate. With one out, Madison Moran hit a solo home run to center field.
“Madison has really been working hard and it was great to see her put that swing on one today,” Perez said. “The whole team was so excited for her.”
Jenna Yablon followed with a single, and with two outs, Anna Powel drew a walk. Joslyn Perez lined a single to left that plated a pair, and Sam Skovo followed with an RBI double to left field. Moore followed with a single to plate Skivo and moved up to second on the throw. She scored when Marissa Perez singled for a 6-0 PW lead.
A five-run second inning included one-out singles by Carney and Marissa Caroluzzi, and with Carney on third, Caelin Kosvitch lofted a sacrifice fly to center. Joslyn Perez followed with a single, and Skivo drew a walk to load the bases, setting the stage for a two-run single by freshman Maddie Carr. Marissa Perez singled to reload the bases, and Rian Reed lined a single to left to plate two more runs, giving the Colonials an 11-0 lead.
The Colonials led 13-0 before the visiting Lions got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. The inning began with a leadoff single by Izzy Elizondo. Emily Wilson was safe on an error, and Jackie Herbert drove in her team’s first run with a single to center. Wilson scored on a wild pitch, and Herbert scored on a groundout to make it a 13-3 game.
PW tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning for the 15-3 final.
Joslyn Perez had a productive day at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 that included three RBIs and three runs scored. Marissa Perez was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Carr also was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored. Carr, a freshman utility player, not only collected her first varsity hit in Friday’s win but her second as well.
“I’m so excited for Maddie,” Perez said. “She is a great kid and has done anything we asked of her this year. She’s the consummate team player and the type of kid we’re lucky to have on the team. She does anything and everything we ask of her, and I know that is a huge relief for her.”
For the Lions, Herbert was 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored.
Plymouth Whitemarsh (8-3, 6-1 SOL) will travel to Lower Moreland on Tuesday, and New Hope-Solebury (1-6) will host Morrisville on Monday.

ABINGTON 16, CHELTENHAM 1 (3 innings)
The Ghosts picked up their third win of the week Friday, and it didn’t take them long to do it.
“We had a great week and today was a good win for our team,” Abington assistant coach Tina Hesdon said. “Our players continue to get stronger offensively and defensively. We hope it continues into next week.”
In a nine-run first, Mallory Beal had the big blow – a bases-clearing double. Mackenzie Feeney doubled and drove in one run. Contributing singles were Leanna Schenk (RBI), Sammi Clewell, Ella O’Rourke and Liz Hippel (2 RBIs).

HATBORO-HORSHAM 15, LOWER MORELAND 2 (5 innings)
The Hatters seized early control of Friday’s crossover game, erupting for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning on their way to the mercy rule win.
“The team has really been working well together, stringing hits to move runners,” HH coach Jen Tooley said. “Tess Kearney, Amya Lundy and Adriana DeLeon led our offense today.”
The trio of Kearney, Lundy and DeLeon combined for eight hits, 10 RBIs and five runs scored. Kearney slugged her way to a 3-for-4 day that included two doubles, a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored. DeLeon was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and a run scored, and Lundy was 2-for-2 with two home runs, four RBIs and two runs scored.
The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Liz Neeld, who led off the inning with a double, scored.
In the bottom of the frame, Alyssa Tooley led off and was hit by a pitch. Cara Neeld drew a walk. Kearney began her productive day with an RBI double to left field. Madison Karpovich followed with a run-scoring double, and DeLeon made it
three doubles in a row – this one to left field that plated a pair. Bella Karpowich’s single scored DeLeon, and Gianna Salerno’s single drove in another run. By the time it was over the Hatters led 7-1.
In the third inning, Payton Lennon’s RBI single made it a 7-2 game, but the Hatters answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning. After a walk to Dakota Slye, Lundy smashed a two-run home run to center. Alyssa Tooley drew a walk, and Neeld followed with a double. Both players scored when Kearney hit her second double of the game. Madison Karpovich’s sac fly put the Hatters on top 12-2.
