PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 7, UPPER DUBLIN 3
The Colonials capped a successful week by notching their third win in four days Friday.
“They have a belief in themselves, and this year I feel like they’re earnestly working on adjustments, not just game to game but at-bat to at-bat,” coach Dana Moyer said. “I told them – ‘If you want to be a great hitter, a great hitter makes adjusts from pitch to pitch, not just at-bat to at-bat.’ They’re young, which is fantastic.”
Josie Tassoni’s two-run double highlighted a three-run first that also included a sacrifice fly by Elena Iannuzzelli, and the Colonials – who start four freshmen – led 3-0 after one inning. The Flying Cardinals scored a single run in the second and threatened in the third but left the bases loaded.
Bolstered by their escape act in the top of the inning, the Colonials scored three runs in the bottom of the inning and a single run in the fourth. Iannuzzelli’s RBI triple accounted for PW’s fourth inning run.
Peyton Baldwin was the lone Colonial with multiple hits, finishing the day 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
Haley Fink earned the complete game win in the circle, allowing five hits and three runs (one earned) while fanning four and walking five.
“The first two innings we were getting a book on the batters,” Moyer said. “It was the second time around – we had an error, a walk, an out and another walk (to load the bases in the third). She had a lot of walks today, and it seemed she was trying to aim the ball instead of throwing the ball.
“But she came through and threw the pitches when she needed to, and really, she dug deep to finish up that (third inning).”
Fink is part of a three-pitcher rotation that also includes sisters Ashley Yeager and Kayla Yeager.
“Kayla is a freshman, and she spins the ball very well, has some great pitch control, and both she and Ashley – you wouldn’t know if they’re up by 20 or down by 20,” Moyer said. “They’re just stone-faced – it’s time to get to work.
“They’re all just great, hard working kids. It’s really nice. We’re not a powerhouse pitching-wise, and they know what the plan is in order to attack the players they face.
“We’re working hard. Every single girl on this team works hard to better themselves offensively and defensively. It’s really a pleasure to coach them.”
Plymouth Whitemarsh (3-3 SOL) will be on the road at Upper Moreland on Tuesday, and Upper Dublin (3-4, 2-3) will host Norristown on Tuesday.

WILLIAM TENNENT 3, ARCHBISHOP WOOD 0
Kalisi Taufele tossed a neat three-hit shutout, fanning three and walking none, to lead the Panthers to their third win of the week.
“This game might have lasted an hour and 10 minutes,” coach Biz Keeny said. “She was efficient. She threw the ball well.”
The Panthers put a run on the scoreboard in the first when Brianna Koonce, who had singled, stole second and came all the way home when the Vikings committed a pair of errors on the play.
Tennent added two more in the sixth. Marissa Govan, who had doubled, scored on an RBI single by Koonce. Jackie Heim’s RBI single played Koonce for the 3-0 final.
Koonce and Govan each collected two hits to account for four of the Panthers’ five hits.
William Tennent (7-3, 5-2 SOL) will be on the road at Quakertown for a non-league contest Monday.
