COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 7, NORTH PENN 0
Freshman Jenna Khantzian tossed a five-hit shutout, and the Indians gave her plenty of run support en route to an impressive non-league win Saturday morning.
“We played seven innings of good softball today, and I think it showed,” coach John Engelhardt said. “North Penn is a good team.”
The Indians set the tone for the game early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first two batters reached base on back-to-back walks, and one out later, Hannah Stalker delivered an RBI double. Taylor Amazeen added an RBI single, and a third run crossed the plate on a passed ball.
“With Jenna – she obviously likes to pitch with a lead,” Engelhardt said. “There’s a different level of confidence.
“I challenged the girls. We’ve been able to put up runs, but we haven’t really started a game strong, and that was really the challenge. We got to the field at nine o’clock and took some extensive BP. I felt the girls were ready to go.
“To come out and get three runs was huge. With Jenna on the mound – at least in our belief right now, with a three-run lead, we’re comfortable. It helps us settle in, and we’re not pressing because we’re down. We know we can let the game come to us, and that was big.”
The Indians added a single run in the third when Stalker laid down a perfectly-executed suicide squeeze.
“One of the things we really did a nice job with was getting our bunts down because we went 0-for-5 against Bensalem,” Engelhardt said. “Hannah Stalker laid two bunts down. Fundamentally, we did a terrific job.”
Amazeen led the Indians with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate. Nicole Rounsavil was 2-for-4 with a double, and Stalker was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
Khantzian fanned six and walked two in the complete game win.

NOTRE DAME (N.J.) 4, NESHAMINY 2
The Redskins outhit the Irish 8-4, but the Irish had the advantage the only place that mattered – on the scoreboard – and handed the ‘Skins their first loss of the season.
Notre Dame scored a pair of runs in the first and added two more in the fourth. The Irish took that 4-0 lead into the top of the seventh when the Redskins broke up Peyton Morell’s shutout bid. Masciulli led the Redskins with a 3-for-3 day at the plate, and Alexis Watkins was 2-for-3.
Sarah Dowalo absorbed the loss, allowing four hits and four runs (three earned) while fanning four.
Neshaminy (8-1, 6-0 SOL) will be at Council Rock North on Monday.
