Check out the recaps for SOL softball teams in action Saturday.
Non-league
MOUNT ST. DOMINIC 3, PENNSBURY 1
The Falcons had the opportunity to play some elite softball teams at the Mount St. Dominic Tournament, and topping the list was the host squad, which brought an 11-0 record into Saturday’s game.
The Falcons held an 8-7 advantage in hits, led by the 2-for-4 effort of Quinn McGonigle and the 2-for-3 showing of Riley Mahony, but they managed to score only one run and absorbed their first loss of the season.
“We had our chances, but we couldn’t get the big hit,” Pennsbury coach Frank McSherry said. “We had the bases loaded with nobody out in the seventh and scored one run.”
Ainsley McClure absorbed the loss, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out three and walking one.

PENNSBURY 5, CARAVEL ACADEMY 1
The Falcons earned a split in Saturday’s games, notching an impressive win over a Caravel Academy squad that later in the day handed Mount St. Dominic its first loss of the season (4-1).
“I don’t think we could have asked for much more,” Pennsbury coach Frank McSherry said of his team’s experience in the tournament. “We were right in that first game. If we had gotten a few timely hits, it could have been different, but hey, this is the best softball that we’ve faced this year. It was fun, and it was certainly challenging.”
For the Falcons, who collected 10 hits, Caitlyn Martel was 2-for-4, Quinn McGonigle was 2-for-4 and Riley Mahony was 2-for-3. Sammy Raub had a double, Ava Storlazzi had a triple, Taylor Askey had a double and one RBI. Rowan Mulholland contributed an RBI.
McGonigle had the game’s big blow, a home run – a three-run shot in the fifth inning that gave the Falcons a 4-1 lead.
“She’s on fire right now,” McSherry said.
Ainsley McClure notched the complete game win.
“All of these teams could hit – every single kid from top to bottom,” McSherry said. “It’s not like any of the teams we’ve seen so far.”
Pennsbury (9-1, 7-0 SOL) will host Central Bucks South on Tuesday.

AVON GROVE 4, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1
Suzie Williams smashed a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first, spotting the Titans an early 1-0 lead. The rest of Saturday’s non-league game belonged to the Red Devils or, more specifically, Payton Hale. The Red Devils’ ace tossed a two-hitter and struck out 16.
“We had a couple of chances here and there – we had a couple of runners on in the first inning,” South coach Kevin Rosini said. “We had first and second nobody out in the fifth inning and couldn’t get them in.
“Riley Erb stuck in there and pitched a good game for us today. The defense played well. We didn’t hit today. The girl really threw a good game. We had a chance late, so I was happy with how we hung in there. We have a big week coming up this week with four games. We’ll be ready to go.”
Mel Sebastro’s 3-for-4 day at the plate with two runs scored led Avon Grove.
Central Bucks South (3-4, 2-3 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks East on Monday.
