National Conference
NESHAMINY 6, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 2
Amber Brugger is one tough customer.
The Redskins’ sophomore pitcher was hit on the chin by a hard shot off the bat of Lauren Begg to lead off the bottom of the third. Unfazed, Bruger calmly retired the next three batters she faced to escape unscathed.
“I just knew I had to shake it because I knew I had my team behind me, and they needed me to stay strong,” Brugger said. “I just went off my team’s energy, and I had to stick through it.”
Brugger – like many of her teammates – had been eagerly anticipating Monday’s showdown that pitted the National Conference’s lone unbeaten squads.
“I’ve been waiting for this game for a while,” the sophomore pitcher said. “I’ve been counting down the days, hoping I would get the start.
“Everyone’s been so excited, and once we stepped on the field, we were all ready. We were so pumped.”
Brugger allowed eight hits but made all the right pitches when it mattered most.
“My pitcher threw perfect,” coach Dave Chichilitti said. “She hit every spot I asked her to.
“She throws strikes, she mixes up her pitches, she hits her locations, and she lets her defense do the work for her, and they did today.”
It certainly helped that the ‘Skins put three runs on the board in the first inning. Mackensie Compton reached first on a single just over the infield after what coach John Englehardt called a ‘miscommunication.’ One out later, Sophie Beretski roped an RBI double to deep right center, and she scored when Hunter Hart singled to center. Rebecca Dixon’s single to left plated a run, and the Redskins led 3-0.
“To come out in the first inning and that miscommunication – with a 15-year-old girl on the mound (Jenna Khantzian) and she is a phenomenal girl, but when you get three runs behind and you know they’re the league champions,” Rock North coach John Engelhardt said. “These girls knew this game was different. They know we’re undefeated, and they’re undefeated in the league as well. You can’t start out that way.”
The Redskins tacked on a run in the second when Brugger – who doubled to open the frame, scored on Compton’s sacrifice fly. The Indians never threatened, and the ‘Skins rebounded quite nicely from their first loss of the season on Saturday (4-2 to Notre Dame of N.J.).
“The league comes first – we needed to refocus, not worry about it, come out and play our best game today, and they did that,” said Chichilitti. “If you can’t defend and make all the plays, you don’t have a chance to win.
“That’s why we lost to Notre Dame the other day. They made all the plays and we didn’t. Today we made the plays when we needed to.”
Beretski, Hart and Brugger led the Redskins with two hits each.
Khantzian absorbed the first loss of her varsity career.
“I love her mentality,” Engelhardt said. “She’s got such a bright future.
“Today wasn’t our day, and that’s a good team. When you give a good team opportunities to score runs, and they do it – we’re going to be in trouble. We haven’t really played from behind, and situational hitting – that’s one thing we haven’t worked on because we’ve always been up.”
Nicole Rounsavill had a big day at the plate for the Indians, finishing 3-for-4 with two doubles. Kalli Segal was 2-for-2 with a double.
Neshaminy (9-1, 7-0 SOL) will travel to Bensalem on Tuesday, and Council Rock North (7-1, 5-1) will be on the road at William Tennent Tuesday.

UPPER MERION 12, NORRISTOWN 2 (5 innings)
Olivia Sborlini did it all in Monday’s mercy rule win over the Eagles. The senior pitcher was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with a pair of triples and a home run. She drove in four runs and scored four runs.
If that wasn’t enough, Sborlini also earned the win in the circle, allowing just one hit and two runs in four innings.
The Vikings put three runs on the board in the top of the first, but the Eagles answered with two in the bottom of the inning. It would be their last hurrah as the rest of the game belonged to the Vikings, who scored four in the second, three in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Allie Moffett was 2-for-4 with a triple and home run. She scored two and drove in a pair. Alyssa Adinolfi was 2-for-3 with a triple, RBI and run scored. Dez Kandy was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and three runs scored.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 6, ABINGTON 1
When the Patriots put three runs on the board in the first and added two more in the second, the Ghosts might have known they were in trouble. After all, the Patriots have allowed more than two runs just twice this season, and Monday wasn’t one of those days.
Theresa Haug and Kayla Ventura combined to allow just three hits and one run. Haug threw the first four innings, allowing two hits and one run (unearned) while fanning three and walking none. Ventura gave up one hit in three shutout innings, fanning three and walking none.
The Patriots benefitted from a Ghost miscue and a pair of wild pitches to plate their three first-inning runs. In the second, Nicole Tracy and Tara Harper (RBI) both singled, and the Patriots led 5-0. The Ghosts scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the second. The Patriots tacked on a run in a fourth inning that included a triple by Tracy.
Tracy led the Patriots with a 2-for-3 effort that included a triple, RBI and run scored.
Central Bucks East (8-3, 5-2 SOL) will be on the road at Pennridge on Tuesday (6:30 p.m.), and Abington (3-6, 2-4) will travel to Pennsbury.

HARRY S TRUMAN 17, CHELTENHAM 4 (5 innings)
Kyle Hoffman admits she had some concerns when the visiting Lady Panthers put three runs on the board in the top of the first. The Tigers’ coach needn’t have worried. Her squad answered with five in the bottom of the inning and never stopped scoring in the abbreviated contest.
In the five-run first, Steph Wolf and Maria Dea – who also earned the win in the circle – provided the spark that ignited the Tigers. Wolf hit a three-run home run, and Dea added a two-run blast. It was the first of two home runs on the day for both players.
The Tigers tacked on two runs in the second, and after the Panthers scored one in the top of the third to make it a 7-4 game, the Tigers all but put the game out of reach with a six-run third inning. Dea’s three-run home run highlighted the inning.
In the fourth, Wolf hit her second homer of the day, this time a three-run shot in a four-running inning.
Also for the Tigers, Sarah Soltis and Vanessa Tancini both added a pair of hits.
Harry S Truman (3-8, 2-5 SOL) will travel to Council Rock South on Tuesday, and Cheltenham (4-7, 2-4) will be at Upper Merion on Tuesday.

QUAKERTOWN 6, WILLIAM TENNENT 5
With two out and two strikes in the bottom of the seventh, senior Emma McLaughlin delivered a base hit that plated Nikki Vanelli from second, propelling Quakertown to the dramatic win. Vanelli singled to open the seventh and moved up to second on a passed ball. Two outs later, she was still on second, setting the stage for McLaughlin’s heroics.
“This was big win for us,” said coach Rich Scott. “I gave Alyssa (Wilkinson) a little bit of a break today. We pitched MJ (Megan Johnson), and she pitched well. They’re a very good team.”
Meghan Klee’s three-run home run highlighted a four-run first inning for the host Panthers, who also received an RBI double from Lauren Beal in the frame. Quakertown led 5-1 heading into the top of the sixth when Tennent scored four runs to knot the score.
Jackie Heim did most of the damage for the visiting Panthers, delivering a solo home run in the fifth and adding a double that plated three runs in the sixth. She finished the game 2-for-3 with a double, home run, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Tennent collected just five hits off the duo of Johnson (5.2 IP) and Wilkinson (1.1 IP).
McLaughlin finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Tara Baglivo was 2-for-4 with a run, and Lauren Beal was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 5, PALISADES 2
The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but the Bucks knotted the score in the top of the third. The Bucks took a lead they would not lose with a single run in a fourth inning that included a single by Julia Perez and a sacrifice bunt by Kelly Cyliax.
The Bucks seized control with a three-run sixth that included a triple by Taylor Levant, a walk to Grace Dryden and doubles by Emma Dryden and Angelina Sherba.
Sherba and Sam Trafford both had a pair of hits to lead the Bucks 10-hit attack.
Sherba also earned the win in the circle, allowing just two hits while fanning 10 and walking four.
Central Bucks West (7-4, 3-4 SOL) will be on the road at Quakertown.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 7, EMMAUS 2
Taylor Marinelli’s two-run home run highlighted a three-run first, and the Titans never trailed on their way to the non-league win. Earlier in the first, Alex DeLeon got things started with a single down the left field line, and she moved up to second on a sacrifice by Alexis McConomy. Meg Bradley’s two-out single plated DeLeon, and Marinelli’s two-run blast put the Titans on top 3-0.
Emmaus scored two in the second, and it was a 3-2 game until the fifth when the Titans exploded for four runs. Maddie Bieber was hit by a pitch to open the frame, and Bradley followed with a double, putting a pair on board. Marinelli doubled to plate Bieber, and Mikaela Simons delivered a three-run home run that put the Titans on top 7-2. Neither team scored the rest of the way.
“It was a good win,” coach Dan Hayes said. “Emmaus lost some games early, but they’ve been playing a lot better. They were pretty good.”
Emily Gillard earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs in four innings.
“She pitched well – kept us in it,” Hayes said.
Freshman Kylie Kenney threw three shutout innings in relief.
Marinelli was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Bradley was 2-for-4 with a double. DeLeon (2-for-4) and Simons (2-for-3) also turned in multi-hit performances.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 1
A win is a win.
That was about all coach Greg Heydet had to say after his team’s non-league win over the visiting Crusaders. The Crusaders held a 6-5 advantage in hits, but the Golden Hawks turned their hits into three runs – one in each of the first three innings.
“We just don’t know how to put teams away,” Heydet said.
The Hawks led 3-0 when Mikayla Becker, who had tripled, scored on Phylicia Wilkov’s RBI single in the third inning. LC got one of those runs back in the sixth.
Stephanie Andreoli was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Golden Hawks. Lauren Kropp also had a triple.
Julie Keegan earned the win for the Golden Hawks, tossing 5.1 innings. Andreoli closed it out.

In a non-league contest that saw the two teams combine for 26 hits and 21 runs, it was the Spartans who had the better of play, benefitting from Ram miscues and 12 hits to put 15 runs on the board.
The Lady Rams led 2-1 after one inning, and it was a 3-3 game heading into the fourth when the Spartans scored three runs to go on top 6-3. They added four more in the fifth and five in the seventh to seal the Lady Rams’ fate.
