COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 15, HARRY S TRUMAN 3 (5 innings)
Freshman Julie Barron made her first varsity home run a memorable one, slugging a grand slam that highlighted an eight-run second inning. Barron finished the day 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
Junior Ally Kirschner was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, including a two-run home run that also was her first career home run. Sophomore Alex Hopko added a double off the fence in a 2-for-4 effort that included an RBI.
Danielle Walters, who earned the win in the circle, helped herself at the plate, finishing the day 2-for-3 with a two-run double. The sophomore hurler allowed just three hits and three runs in five innings, striking out seven.
“Whenever you play Truman, you know that they are going to fight until the last out because Truman is very well coached team,” South coach David Apfelbaum said. “I cannot say it enough how proud I am of my team. They continue to bring the energy and compassion to the field. They love to play this game and love to play it together.
“It was awesome to see both Julie (Barron) and Ally (Kirschner) collect their first career home runs and watch them all celebrate together. Ally has been stellar behind the plate this year, commanding the field as our catcher.
“As a team, we collected 12 hits, spraying the ball all over the field. This again was a total team effort and I could not be prouder of how they have started the season.”
Council Rock South (2-1, 1-1 SOL) will host Perk Valley in a non-league contest Monday, and Harry S Truman (0-3, 0-1) will host Bensalem on Thursday.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 9, ARCHBISHOP WOOD 5
Two days after the top of the lineup carried the Indians to a win over archrival Council Rock South, the Indians received big contributions from their five and six hitters.
“Most of my production has come from my one through four hitters,” coach John Engelhardt said. “I challenged the girls – we need somebody five through nine to step up, and that’s what happened today.”
Jenna Khantzian, who played left field, was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Abbie Seiple was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
“I got five RBIs out of my five and six hitters, so that was huge,” Engelhardt said. “My one through four did what they typically do, but getting that production out of my five and six hitters was huge.
“It’s the major reason why we were able to score nine runs against one of the better pitchers we will face this year.”
Wood ace Marisa Brown has committed to continue her softball career at Drexel University.
“The weather is an equalizer from a pitching standpoint,” Engelhardt said. “I did not expect to score nine runs on Marisa Brown, but it’s such an advantage to the hitters in this type of weather.”
Lauren Begg was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Taylor Briggs was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs, and Julianna Shields was 1-for-2 with an RBI, two walks and three stolen bases.
Begg earned the complete game win, allowing four earned runs while striking out a season-high eight batters.
“She did a nice job,” Engelhardt said. “Lauren is going to keep us in games.”
Council Rock North (5-1, 2-0 SOL) will travel to Bensalem on Monday.
