Council Rock North coach Susan Yee on playing for a cause: “Today’s game was a lot of fun. We always enjoy playing Neshaminy, but today was extra special because we were all playing for a cause bigger than ourselves. Both teams came together today to raise money for childhood cancer research, and that cause is way bigger than anything any of us will ever do on a softball field. Both teams played with class and heart and made a difference in the lives of others today, and I could not be more proud of the girls from both programs for the civic deed they took part in today and the way they serve as role models for the younger members of our communities. We would like to thank the Neshaminy softball team for their tremendous efforts in making this afternoon such a success. They are absolutely a first class group. Softball wins and losses aside, the girls in those dugouts this afternoon were winning the game of ‘life.’”
Up next: Council Rock North (12-4, 7-0 SOL) will travel to Council Rock South on Tuesday, and Neshaminy (5-8, 3-4) will host Quakertown in a non-league game Friday.

Council Rock South coach Scott Molle: “This was the first of three consecutive games for us, and although we didn’t perform at our best, we demonstrated resilience and secured a crucial win. We made some uncharacteristic mental mistakes, but this was an unusual game for us.
“We look forward to facing Spring-Ford tomorrow, aiming to return to our signature South softball style and extend our winning streak.”
–Scannapieco delivers: “Julia Scannapieco earned the win for us today against a gutsy Truman team. Despite not having her full arsenal of pitches, Julia managed to secure 10 strikeouts, ultimately clinching the victory. Julia was also a standout at the plate, collecting three hits, including a double.
–Props: “Sophia Salamon and Shannon Williams delivered impressive performances as well, each garnering two hits.
“Shannon Williams is an exceptional player, boasting an impressive streak at the plate and stellar defensive skills at shortstop. Her error-free performance this year is a testament to her tireless work ethic and dedication. Having only started playing shortstop last year, Shannon’s growth and leadership are truly remarkable. Her consistent play makes her an invaluable asset to our team.”

PENNSBURY 21, BENSALEM 2 (3 innings)
The visiting Falcons put 13 runs on the board in the top of the second inning on their way to the mercy rule win, and they received contributions up and down their lineup.
“We have 17 kids, and we played every single kid,” Pennsbury coach Frank McSherry said. “And a really cool thing happened. A freshman who’s been killing it offensively for the JV team (Cali Searfoss) came up because they didn’t have a JV, so we brought her along.
“She pinch hit, and in her first varsity at-bat, she hit a three-run homer. The fence is deep at Bensalem’s field, and she hit one to left field into the wind – a three-run homer.”
Senior Joslyn Krusen came off the bench and singled and scored a run. It was her first varsity hit.
“She doesn’t play much, but she’s so good for the program,” McSherry said.
Liv Czerniak, Bella Morales, Jenna Thompson and Aubrey Bedell each had a pair of hits to lead the Falcons.

NORTH PENN 8, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1
The Knights had plenty of reasons to celebrate Thursday night.
For starters, there was yet another glittering performance from pitcher Felicia Connolly in the complete game. The Knights’ ace scattered three hits and allowed just one run (unearned) while striking out 12 and walking one. Connolly also had three hits and drove in a run.
The Knights’ bats were once again alive – their double-digit hit effort was led by freshman Gabriella Brigidi’s 4-for-4 effort.
The win put coach Rick Torresani’s name in the record books as the veteran coach notched win number 500 of his stellar coaching career just four years after reaching the 400-win milestone.
By the numbers: North Penn: Gabriella Brigidi (4-for-4, 2B, 1RBI, 3R), Felicia Connolly (3-for-4, 1R), Gabby Battavio (2-for-2, 1R), Cailin Halfpenny (2-for-5, 2RBI, 1R), Alana Battavio (2B, 1RBI)
Felicia Connolly (W) (7.0 IP, 3H, 1R, 0ER, 1BB, 12K)
North Penn coach Rick Torresani: “We’re playing really good softball now. They’re playing, I’m going to say, just as good as any other team I’ve had in the recent years as they’re coming together as a unit and enjoying each other and playing together as a team.
“We’re finally getting to where we should be. We’re not there yet – I think this team can play even better, and I’m looking forward to the next five games.”
Connolly excels: “Felicia pitched a great game. She’s a talent. She pitched really well tonight, she hit her spots, the ball was moving. I keep saying this, but she’s getting stronger and stronger the more she pitches. She’s a good hitter, and she can hit for power too. She’s a leading force for this team, obviously, because of the way she’s pitching.”
Rookies shine: “Freshman Gabriella Brigidi came through with four hits. She has so much talent, and I’ve just been waiting for her to come through and have the confidence in doing that, and lately, she’s been doing that. She’s going to be an awesome player for four years.
“Alana Battavio is another freshman that’s been coming through for us, along with her sister Gabby..
Veteran leadership: “And then you’ve got the leadership of (captains) Tallie Smink, Cailin Halfpenny and Brandi Groarke, who have kept this team together through a lot and making sure that the girls – no matter what was happening on the outside – were ready to play when they stepped on the field, and that’s been huge for this team.”
Up next: North Penn (9-6, 6-1 SOL) will travel to Warwick for a non-league game Saturday (11 am), and Central Bucks South (9-7, 4-3) will travel to Central Bucks West on Tuesday.

SOUDERTON 10, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 7
Josi Tolentino continued her torrid offensive production, leading the Indians to the win with a double, home run and five RBIs.
The Indians appeared to have a comfortable 8-3 lead, but a four-run fifth pulled the Bucks to within one. The Indians answered with a pair in the bottom of the inning and closed out the game with that 10-7 lead.
Skyler Byrnes notched the win, and Bella Kreyenhagen threw a scoreless seventh in relief.
By the numbers: Souderton: Josi Tolentino (3-for-4, 2B, HR, 5RBI, 2R), Emma Messmer (2-for-3, 3R), Skyler Byrnes (2-for-4, 2B, 1RBI, 2R)
Central Bucks West: Katherine James (2-for-4, 2B, Marley Swain (1-for-3, 2B, 2RBI, 1R), Sammy Hooven 2-for-4, 2B, 1RBI), Jill Boyle (1-for-4, 2RBI, 2R).
Key inning: Top of fifth: Trailing 8-3, the Bucks scored four runs. James led off the inning with a single but was erased at second on a fielder’s choice. Ana Glemser drew a walk, and Taylor Hooven followed with an RBI double to left field. Swain delivered a two-run double, and with two outs, Sammy Hooven hit an RBI double to left, pulling the Bucks to within one, 8-7.
Bottom of fifth: Kendal Nelson drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on a groundout. Nelson scored on Kiera Fadden’s groundout. Messmer following with a single, and Tolentino’s RBI double put the Indians on top 10-7.
Souderton coach Tyler Bui: “I told Coach (Mike) Daher before the game that his CB West team was having a great season and lost some tough games, including to us in our previous 5-4 contest. I knew this was going to be another battle for our team today. CB West has some great players and personalities on their team. They are energetic and always battle, regardless of the situation. I told our girls that we had to match their energy today. We came out firing, and CB West came right back at us, but our girls were resilient. Our coaching staff does a great job of instilling in our players the importance of never going into panic mode during games, and they showed that today by staying calm in key situations to get the job done.”
–One and only senior: “Josi Tolentino is our only senior. During Teacher Appreciation Day, she mentioned that her teacher, Mr. Engard, has made her smile every day for the past three years. Today, she made her teammates, family, and friends smile by having another stellar day with three hits and five RBI.
–Props: “Bella Kreyenhagen has been solid at the plate. She is a very disciplined hitter and sprays hard hit balls into the gaps. We asked her to close out today’s game at a time when CB West got really hot. She will come at you with five different pitches at any time during the count, so it’s hard to get comfortable with her in the circle. I really appreciated her effort. Bella came up big for us today.”

UPPER DUBLIN 2, ABINGTON 0
In a contest that was the definition of a pitcher’s duel, it was UD junior Kyla Garrison earning the complete game win, allowing just two hits while walking none and striking out 13. She also helped her own cause at the plate with a two-out double that plated an insurance run in a contest that saw both pitchers excel.
Abington’s Sam Wenhold also tossed a two-hit gem, but the Cardinals found a way to turn their two hits into two runs.
Grace Meehan accounted for both of Abington’s hits.
By the numbers: Upper Dublin: Kyla Garrison (W) (7 IP, 2H, 0R, 0BB, 13K)
Abington: Grace Meehan (2-for-2)
Sam Wenhold (6 IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 5BB, 3K)
Key innings: Bottom of third: Madden Reilly led off the inning with a walk and was replaced by courtesy runner Sophie Cowen, who stole second and scored when Bella Fiore hit a two-out RBI single that put the Cards on top 1-0.
Bottom of fifth: Reilly drew her second walk of the game and was once replaced by Cowen, who advanced to second on a groundout and then scored on a two-out double by Garrison.
Upper Dublin coach Heather Boyer: “It was a well-played game. Kudos to our girls for getting the timely hits. That’s something we’ve struggled with. We struggled with it at (Council Rock) North, we struggled with it at Souderton, we struggled with it at New Hope. We left the bases loaded and missed out on opportunities, but those are games that are going to make us better as we finish the season.”
–Garrison in charge: “She was dealing. She threw really, really well. She was very efficient – 63 out of 83 pitches were strikes, so talk about efficient, and that’s important. This is our third game this week, and she is the only arm. The fatigue is real, so for her to come out and throw very efficiently today – she had good spin on her breaking ball, she hit her spots, she had good velocity, she mixed her speeds well. She really did a great job and as always was so composed and poised on the mound.”
–Credit to Wenhold: “On the flip side. Sam Wenhold did a really good job too. She pitched well, she pitched smart. She was mixing her speeds well, she was moving the ball around the zone, and she kept our hitters off balance. It took two separate two-out hits with a runner in scoring position to push runs across the plate. A nod to her too – she did a nice job as well.”

The Hatters took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and then put the game out of reach in the five-run fourth that was highlighted by doubles from Conn (RBI) and Madison Karpovich (RBI) as well as an RBI single by Faith Brown.
“I think they’re starting to buy in,” Hatboro-Horsham coach Bob Sadowl said. “Either that or they like the warm weather.”

Sydney Cassel executed a perfect squeeze bunt picking up an RBI.”

The Colonials bounced back with a no-doubt-about-it win on the heels of Wednesday’s non-league loss.
“It was just a great all-around team victory,” PW coach Mike Perez said. “All 17 girls on today’s roster got into the game, and 12 different girls recorded a hit. I’m very proud of the girls’ preparation coming into today’s game and their energy all game long.”
Three pitchers combined for the shutout win, and the Colonials’ bats were on fire. Emily Dobrowolski’s four RBIs led the attack.

Wissahickon: Dani Marra (2-for-2), Julia Lentz (2-for-2)
Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Mike Perez: “The whole team really rebounded from yesterday’s loss with a nice league victory on the road.
–Varsity firsts: “There are a few varsity firsts I would like to highlight: First varsity RBI for Cate Stanton, Emma Keely, Liv Brodzinski and Lizzy LaNoce. Brodzinski also picked up her first varsity W in the circle and first K (she finished with 4).”
–LaNoce shines in debut: “I can’t say enough about what Lizzy LaNoce has done the past two days. She got called up from JV yesterday and notched a last-minute start (due to an injury) and has gone 4-for-5 with three runs scored over the past two games. It’s not easy coming into a situation like that, but she’s been a nice injection of pop to the line-up.”
–Props: “Emily Dobrowolski stayed scorching hot out of the nine hole, going 2-for-2 with 2 doubles and 4 RBIs.
“Kalina Childers also had two doubles and two runs scored in her return to the lineup after missing the last two games.
“Gia Bono, Madison Moran, LaNoce, and Jenna Yablon all contributed two hits in the game.”

UPPER MORELAND 5, NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 1
In battle for the top spot in the division, it was the Golden Bears – with the win – gaining a one-game advantage in the loss column at the top of the standings.
“Going into the game we knew that it was going to be a tough game but an important game to win for us,” UM coach Melanie Martino said. “New Hope has been playing solid all season and so have we.
“Our players have been locked in all week, and after our win against Tennent the other day, they knew winning against New Hope can potentially put us in a position to be in the running for the Freedom Division this season.”
Joslyn McCellan’s three-run triple spotted the Bears a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.
McCellen and Sofia Magagna led UM with two hits each.
Sophomore Delaney Stout earned the complete game win, allowing five hits and one run (unearned) while fanning eight.

Delaney Stout (W) (7.0 IP, 5H, 1R, 0ER, 2BB, 8K)
Key inning: Top of first: Erin Distel led off with a single, and Steph Jones was safe on an error. A walk to Claire Walton loaded the bases for McCellan, who ripped a triple to left field to empty the bases with one swing of the bat, giving the Golden Bears a 3-0 lead.
Upper Moreland coach Melanie Martino on the game: “Delaney pitched another great game. Her consistency has been a game changer for us. Today she struck out eight and only allowed one unearned run. Her batting average against is .176, which is just fantastic. The fact that we also have been playing solid defense behind her across the board and putting runs up on the board game after game is how we are winning games and even keeping the losses close.
“Joslyn McCellan had a great game for us with a triple and two RBIs to get us on the board early set the tone.
“Freshman catcher Sofia Magagna also had a great game behind the plate, and the chemistry between her and Delaney is exactly what you want. Sofia has grown so much as a catcher this season, and we are really looking forward to what she will do over the be next four years.”
