Non-league
CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 7, WILLIAM TENNENT 0
It’s been quite a week for Maddy Borowski.
On the heels of shutout win over Central Bucks West 24 hours earlier, the CB South senior tossed a one-hit shutout in a non-league win over Tennent on Friday. The Panthers got their first and only hit with two outs in the sixth inning. Borowski fanned 11 and walked only one.
“She pitched really well today,” South coach Kevin Rosini said. “She was on point. She just did what she does. When she’s throwing strikes, she’s really, really good.
“This week, she beat (Archbishop) Wood on Monday 8-1, she shut out West last night and then shut out Tennent today, so she had a really good week. She’s really doing well.”
The Titans scored an unearned run in the first inning and capitalized on a Tennent miscue to add a second unearned run in the fifth inning.
“Our offense scuffled a little bit in the beginning,” Rosini said.
The Titans put the game out of reach with a five-run sixth. Riley Theis drew a leadoff walk, and Ella Wheeler followed with a single. The bases were loaded with no outs after Steph Bendzlowicz singled. A groundout plated the game’s first run, and with runners on second and third and two outs, Nora Sidorski stepped to the plate and delivered a pinch hit three-run home run.
“First pitch – she hit her second three-run homer of the week,” Rosini said. “It was Nora’s second (pinch hit) three-run homer in three games.”
The Titans weren’t finished yet. Kate Muntz singled, and Camryn Lee followed with a double. Muntz scored on a Wood miscue to give the Titans their final margin of victory, 7-0.
“We were good offensively that inning,” Rosini said. “Our defense was solid – no errors.”
Muntz was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and run scored, and Maura Fleming was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Lee had a double, stolen base and run scored. Bendzlowicz was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.
“Steph had two hits again today with a double, and she made a really great play,” Rosini said. “A girl bunted, and it popped up in the air a little bit. She sprinted in from third base, caught it in the air. She’s playing really solid right now, and we’re coming together.”
Friday’s win was the Titans’ third in four games this week on the heels of a 3-1 week last week..
“We’ve won six of our last eight,” Rosini said. “Now we’re 11-7 and we’re on pretty solid ground. The kids are playing really well. We’re peaking at the right time, which we were hoping would happen.
“We’re running the bases well, we’re doing the little things, we’re playing good defense, we’re getting good pitching, we’re getting timely hitting. This is the team we kind of envisioned at the beginning of the season. We still haven’t lost two in a row the whole season, so it’s good resiliency, bounce back. We still have room to grow, but where we’re at is where we’d hoped to be at this point in the season.”
Central Bucks South (11-7, 8-6 SOL) will travel to North Penn on Monday, and William Tennent (11-6, 11-3) will travel to New Hope-Solebury on Monday.

ABINGTON 11, UPPER MERION 10
The Ghosts won a wild one when Liz Hippel – with runners on first and second and two outs in the seventh of a tie game – stepped to the plate and stroked a double to left field that brought home a run for the dramatic walk-off win in Friday’s non-league contest.
“Upper Merion played really tough today,” Abington coach Bob Baginski said. “Liz Hippel delivered with a walk-off hit after two nice at-bats by Ella O’Rourke and Natalie Broskley to get the inning going.
“Liz works very hard, asks a lot of questions and is playing a new position – second base – this year and has developed really nicely.”
Ella O’Rourke drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the seventh, and with one out, Broskley was safe on an error, setting the stage for Hippel’s game-winner.
The Vikings took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, and Broskley got one of those runs back in a hurry, driving the second pitch of the Ghosts’ half of the first for a home run to left field. With one out, Hippel was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. She scored on Lauren Everitt’s RBI single to make it a 3-2 game.
The Ghosts took a 5-3 lead in the second inning. With two outs, Broskley doubled to left, and she scored when Leanna Schenk tripled to center field. Hippel singled home Schenk, and a third run crossed the plate on a groundout.
After the Vikings scored a run in the top of the third, Mackenzie Feeney led off the Ghosts’ half of the inning with a solo home run to center field. The Vikings took a 7-6 lead in the top of the fourth, but the Ghosts evened the score in the bottom of the Inning when Hailey Hernandez smashed a solo home run to left field.
Upper Merion opened up a 10-7 lead in the fifth, but again, the Ghosts answered in the bottom of the inning. The three-run inning was highlighted by an RBI triple from Schenk, a single by Everitt and an RBI double by Hernandez. The Ghosts won it one inning later, thanks to Hippel’s two-out heroics.
In a contest that featured 26 hits and 21 runs, the Ghosts collected 15 hits. Hernandez (3-for-4, HR, 2B, 2 RBIs, 1R) and Everitt (3-for-3, 2 RBIs, 1R) led the way. Also collecting multiple hits were Broskley (2-for-5, HR, 2B, RBI, 3R), Schenk (2-for-5, 2 3B, 2 RBIs, 2R) and Hippel (2-foer-3, 2B, 2 RBIs, 2R). The top five batters in the Ghosts’ lineup combined for 12 of their team’s 14 hits.
Danica Santiago earned the win, allowing just two earned runs in 6.1 innings. She struck out three and did not walk a batter.
“Our freshman pitcher Danica Santiago was really solid again after pitching her fourth game in five days,” Baginski said. “The team and coaches are very happy for Hailey Hernandez and Mackenzie Feeney who hit the first homes runs in their varsity career today. This season hasn’t gone the way anyone hoped, but we are all grateful for the win and the coaches are appreciative for all the players and how hard they work”

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 4, ARCHBISHOP WOOD 3
It looked like It was going to be a high-scoring game when both teams scored three runs in the first inning. That wasn’t the case as the Golden Hawks scored the only run the rest of the way, and that came without the benefit of a hit in the third inning when Ameerah Wheet – who drew a leadoff walk – scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Angelina Comerford, giving the Hawks a 4-3 lead that stood the rest of the way.
In the three-run first, Kaylie Walters singled to left to lead off the inning, and Avery Tumolo was safe on an error. Walters scored on Grace Stepp’s sac fly to left, and another Wood miscue set the stage for a clutch two-run double by Julia Scannapieco.
“Julia Scannepico had a big hit in the first, and we did what we had to do to win,” Rock South coach Dan Schram said. “Wood has some really good bats and is a good team. We thank Coach Eckler for inviting us out for this awesome cause.”
Friday’s game was to promote breast cancer awareness. The Vikings wore pink, and the Golden Hawks wore pink socks.
A key to the win was the shutdown performance of Lexi Waring, who entered the game with two outs in the third inning and allowed just one hit in 4.1 shutout innings in relief. She fanned nine and did not walk a batter.
In her last 20 innings in the circle, Waring has struck out 35 and allowed one earned run.
“Lexi Waring once again, came in and shut it down for South,” Schram said. “Time and time again, she comes up very big for us. She is an incredible performer and competitor.”

HATBORO-HORSHAM 8, METHACTON 3
The Hatters bounced back after a disappointing 3-1 loss to Plymouth Whitemarsh one day earlier to notch an impressive win over the visiting Warriors in a non-league contest.
After Methacton took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on Riley Kairer’s solo home run, the Hatters answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Tess Kearney got things started with a one-out single, and after Abby Waeltz drew a walk, Amya Lundy lined an RBI double to center. Maddie Karpovich followed with a two-run double, and the Hatters had a lead they would not lose.
“The team came back after tough loss yesterday to play very well against Methacton,” Hatters’ coach Jen Tooley said. “Amya Lundy and Tess Kearney continue to be strong offensive contributors. Maddie Karpovich was seeing the ball well today with several quality at-bats with two doubles.”
The Warriors trimmed that lead to 3-2 in the second, but the Hatters scored two in the fourth to go on top 5-2. Highlighting the inning was an RBI double by Kearney. The Hatters opened up a 7-3 lead in the sixth. Doubles by Kearney and Karpovich (2 RBIs) were the big blows in the inning.
Kearney’s 3-for-3 day at the plate led the Hatters and included two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored. Karpovich was 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs, and Lundy was 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
Alysssa Tooley threw two innings and Bella Karpovich closed it out, allowing three hits and one run while striking out two and walking none in five innings.
“It was a battery of the Karpovich sisters that kept the Methacton batters off balance,” Tooley said.

BENSALEM 13, ST HUBERT 3 (5 innings)
The Owls got back on the winning track with a no-doubt-about-it non-league win in the abbreviated contest. Senior Camryn Pickering stole the spotlight in her first ever varsity start, earning her first varsity win.
“On Friday, both our starting pitchers faced injuries and were sidelined to start the week,” coach Erin Smith said. “Camryn came to us and said, ‘I used to pitch, I can step in.’
“She came in relief and pitched 4 2/3 innings on Monday and said, ‘I forgot how much fun pitching is. I want to throw again.’ Not many kids are that selfless – she didn’t care about stats, she just jumped right in.”
Pickering threw three solid innings, allowing six hits and three runs. She struck out four and walked two. Brianna Ryan came in relief and tossed two scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out a pair.
“Offensively, we were able to put it together,” Smith said. “Lina Sponheimer was dominant as she has been all season.”
Sonheimer led the Owls with three hits, five RBIs and two stolen bases. Ashlyn Merz had two hits, including a double and a sac fly, and finished the day with four RBIs. Meg Klein had two hits, scored three runs and had two stolen bases. Ayva Knowles was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored. Camryn Pickering and Adrianna Vargas also jumped in on the hit parade with two hits apiece.
Klein’s first hit of the day was a single to center field which marked her 100th hit in a Bensalem uniform.
“To get 100 hits is something special, and Meg hitting that milestone as a junior is an impressive feat,” Smith said. “Megan is a special talent. She can bunt, slap and swing away and it makes her such a hard out. I’m glad she’s a junior and I have her talents around for another year”
