COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 7, ABINGTON 1
Phylicia Wilkov has had a hot bat for the Golden Hawks, and it was her three-run blast in the first inning that gave the Hawks a lead they would not lose. The stage was set for the junior infielder’s big blast when Steph Andreoli and Mikayla Becker collected singles.
“It’s always good with runs in the first – it relaxes the pitchers,” coach Greg Heydet said. “Phylicia Wilkov has been our consistent, hottest hitter all year. She’s just been banging the ball all year.”
The Hawks benefitted from some Ghost miscues and an RBI single from Makenna Diamond to add four runs in the sixth on their way to the convincing win.
Andreoli turned in a gem in the circle, allowing five hits while fanning four and walking none.
“Steph pitched well,” Heydet said. “She had no walks, which is big, and we had no errors, and that helps.”
Wilkov and Andreoli both finished the game 2-for-4 while Diamond and Becker were both 2-for-3 on a day that saw the Golden Hawks collect 11 hits.
Council Rock South (9-5, 6-4 SOL) will begin a stretch of four league games in four days on Monday when the Golden Hawks host Abington (5-11, 4-8).
“We need all of them because they scratched four non-league games off because we don’t have time to play them,” Heydet said. “That’s going to hurt.”

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 14, UPPER MERION 4
The visiting Vikings blew Friday’s non-league game wide open with a seven-run second inning on their way to the convincing win.
“PV is a very good team,” coach John Whitney said. “I told the kids before we played them – this game will help us one way or the other.
“They scored some runs in the second, and I said, ‘Keep working. Don’t put your heads down,’ and the kids did that. They didn’t quit.”
Olivia Sborlini gave Vikings fans something to cheer about in the third inning when she delivered a grand slam to make it an 8-4 game.
“She swung at a high pitch for strike two and then she hits the ball out of the ball park,” Whitney said. “That was nice.
“I told Liv after the game, ‘I’ll take some of the responsibility – I probably should have taken you out earlier. Pitchers get a lot of credit, but sometimes you have to give the hitters credit. Tip your hat to the hitters and move on.’ Those kids were locked on, and they were ripping shots.”
The Vikings managed just four hits, including a double by Alyssa Adinolfi.
Upper Merion (16-2, 13-0 SOL) will try to wrap up a perfect conference season when the Vikings host Upper Moreland on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
