The Golden Bears erased a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the first. They added five more over the next two innings to take complete command of a contest that saw them pound out 15 hits.
“We hit the ball hard all day long,” UM coach Scott Ludlow said. “We had been struggling to score runs, but today that was not the case.
“We were the only game at our school, so they spent a lot of time getting the field ready. I’m thrilled we played today.”
The win avenged a 7-5 loss to the Colonials in the initial meeting between the two teams, and with the win, the Golden Bears moved up to sixth in the latest District One 5A power rankings.
PW took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Kamryn Kopinksi, who had singled, scored on a passed ball. After that, the Bears seized control. They led 6-1 when Gianna Fiorenza singled home a pair in the second inning.
“We just kind of nickel and dimed them – a single RBI here, a single RBI there,” Ludlow said. “We were consistent all day long. We hit the ball well for the entire game.”
Chloe Tice was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot, and Jocelyn Baumeister was a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a run to lead the Golden Bears. Brianna Hughes was 2-for-4 with two runs, Jackie Martino was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Jenna Sadowski was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
“And I think just about everyone else in the starting lineup had a hit,” Ludlow said.
Sadowski also earned the win in the circle, allowing seven hits and two runs (only one earned) while striking out six and walking none.
Peyton Baldwin’s 2-for-4 effort led the Colonials.

Angelina Sherba tossed another masterpiece, allowing just one hit while striking out one and walking one.
“She was hitting her spots, throwing strikes,” West coach Geoff Thompson said. “Her curveball was working, she had a good screwball and got a couple of them out on her rise ball. She was just pumping strikes in there.”
The Indians had just three base runners – none advanced past first, and in a season that has featured one high-scoring game after another, Monday’s was the fourth 1-0 game of the season for the Bucks, who have won two of the four.
“It was awesome – it was fun,” Thompson said. “Our defense played really well. When they hit it, we caught it.”
The Indians collected their only hit in the fourth when Riley Sheehy led off the inning with a single.
“It was a hard-hit line drive that went off Ang’s glove and bounced back toward the catcher,” Thompson said. “It was a hit.”
The Bucks scored the only run Sherba would need in the top of the fifth. Maddie Leatherbarrow led off with a single and stole second. Sam Trafford’s RBI single plated Leatherbarrow, and that 1-0 lead stood the rest of the way.
Trafford was 3-for-4 to lead the Bucks. Leatherbarrow had a pair of hits on a day that saw the Bucks collect eight hits.
The Bucks moved up to 16th in the latest District One 6A power rankings while the Indians fell to 17th.
