PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 18, WISSAHICKON 8 (5 innings)
The Colonials had plenty of reasons to celebrate on Thursday. They not only dug themselves out of an early 8-1 hole to win in five innings, they found out later in the day they had earned the 23rd and final district playoff berth.
“Even to slide in at the end – I’ll take it,” coach Dana Moyer said. “It’s been a while – maybe eight years ago – since we’ve been in the playoffs.
“We have a super young team, and there’s so much of an upside, and this is a positive moment for the program and the school.”
The Colonials scored nine runs in the third inning to go on top 18-8, and that score held the rest of the way.
Everyone in PW’s lineup scored, and the battery of catcher Kayla Yeager and pitcher Haley Fink earned the win.
Offensive standouts were seniors Elena Iannuzzelli (1-for-3, double, two runs) and Ashley Yeager (2-for-3, two doubles, two RBIs) and freshman Josee Tassoni (2-for-3, two doubles, two RBIs).
For the Trojans, Macey Segal was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and two runs. Sara Genell was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, and Andrea Mazurek was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
