PENNRIDGE 9, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 6
The Rams – on the heels of back-to-back one-run losses – needed a win. For the better part of Tuesday’s game, it didn’t look as though that was going to happen as the Rams fell behind 6-0 early, but they staged a gutsy late-game comeback, scoring nine runs in the sixth
and seventh innings combined to earn the improbable win.
“It was just a good team win,” Pennridge coach Wendy Iadonisi said. “Everyone played a part in it. The past couple of weeks we’ve had a few come-from-behind battles, but we fell short by one run. I think this was our third time battling from behind. It was a great win for the girls.”
Several Rock North miscues after back-to-back one out singles by Olivia Crognale and Reagan Bauman in the sixth inning gave the Rams life, allowing them to plate three unearned runs.
That set the stage for the Rams’ seventh inning comeback.
“Ashleigh Kenworthy came in as a pinch hitter and walked, Anja Puketza had a single, and then Chloe Coughenour walked.
Making an unlikely pinch hit appearance was Madison Silber, who was taking an AP exam and was a late arrival at the game. The senior catcher delivered an RBI single, and hitting suddenly became contagious as Reagan Bauman followed with a two-run single to center. Catelyn Thrush kept the rally alive with a two-run single to left, and Cassandra Schillo’s RBI single gave the Rams their final margin of victory, 9-6.
“Maddie’s hit was a big one – she’s coming off the bench cold and had just shown up in the seventh inning,” Iadonisi said. “The two walks were key.”
In addition to delivering a key hit in the six-run seventh, Puketza also earned the complete game win, allowing nine hits and six runs (three earned) in seven innings, striking out one and walking one.
“She had a great day,” Iadonisi said. “I felt she kept her composure after giving up some unearned runs early in the game, and she just came up huge for us today.
“We really needed this. We’ve been struggling. We’ve lost three games by one run. It’s been a very unique year.”
Early on, the Indians took a 2-0 lead in the first, benefitting from a leadoff single by Emma Zoldi, an RBI single by Sofia Shields as well as a costly two-out error that resulted in two unearned runs. A three-run second was highlighted by Zoldi’s two-run double, and in the third inning, Bella Pellitta’s RBI single gave the Indians a 6-0 lead.
Leading the Rams at the plate were Bauman (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), Thrush (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, 1 run) and Schillo (2-for-4, RBI).
For the Indians, Zoldi finished the day 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Shields was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Pellitta was 2-for-2 with one RBI and a run scored.
Kat Hastings absorbed the loss, allowing nine hits and nine runs (six earned) while striking out six and walking three.
Pennridge (4-10, 1-4 SOL) will host Central Bucks East on Thursday, and Council Rock North (5-8, 2-3) will host Harry S Truman on Thursday.

ABINGTON 4, UPPER MORELAND 1
Leanna Schenk’s grand slam in the fourth inning was more than enough run support for Jess Sokolski, who notched the complete game win for the Ghosts.
“We had three big hits by Julia Brustle, Annie Sokolski and Aneesa Rohrer that led to a grand slam by Leanna Schenk for our four runs,” Abington coach Bob Baginski said. “More importantly, we played excellent defense for Jess Sokolski who pitched well today against a tough team.”
Sokolski scattered four hits and allowed one run in seven innings, striking out four and walking two.
Neither team generated all that much offense, but the Ghosts benefitted from hits by Brustle and Rohrer as well as a UM miscue to load the bases. The stage was set for Schenk, who delivered the four-run blast to left field.
Neither team scored the rest of the way.
Madison Cornell’s 3-for-3 day at the plate led the Ghosts’ eight-hit attack.
Abiington (6-6, 0-5 SOL) will host Upper Dublin on Thursday, and Upper Moreland (5-8, 4-1) will host Lower Moreland on Thursday.

SOUDERTON 5, BENSALEM 1
The visiting Indians found themselves deadlocked with the Owls 1-1 heading into the fifth inning. Souderton scored four runs over the final three innings, but the Owls made them earn this one.
The Indians plated an unearned run in the top of the first when Megan Kummery – who lined a one-out triple to right – scored on a Bensalem miscue. The Owls evened the score in the bottom of the third, also benefitting from a Souderton error and an RBI single by freshman Angelina Sponheimer.
In the fifth inning, the Indians took a 2-1 lead on a Sierra Ripka steal of home. In the sixth, the Indians added a pair of runs. Kayley York lined an RBI triple to center and scored on a Bensalem miscue. The Indians added their final run in the seventh, thanks to an RBI double by Riley York.
Riley York (2-for-2, 2B, RBI) and Kummery (2-for-4, triple, 1 run) led the Indians’ seven-hit attack.
Abby Burns notched the complete game win, allowing three hits and one run (unearned) while striking out 14 and walking none.
Formichelli absorbed the loss, allowing seven hits while striking out six and walking four in seven innings.
“Our pitcher, Maggie Formichelli, threw an absolute gem today,” Bensalem coach Dan Schram said. “All of their runs we’re unearned. Souderton played clean and did what they had to do to win. Hats off to them.”
Souderton (11-4, 3-2 SOL) will host Central Bucks South on Thursday, and Bensalem (6-8, 1-5) will host Pennsbury on Thursday.

HATBORO-HORSHAM 8, WILLIAM TENNENT 4
The Hatters found themselves in an unfamiliar position on Tuesday, trailing the visiting Panthers 3-0 after one inning and still on the short end of a 4-2 score heading into the bottom of the sixth.
Down but hardly out, the Hatters put six runs on the board in the sixth to take a lead they would not lose.
“We’re glad we had a chance to battle and work through some adversity – we haven’t seen a lot of that lately, so it was great to give the girls a chance to show some character, and they did that,” HH coach Kelly Krier said. “Tennent kept us on our toes, for sure, but they stuck with it.
“It was good to see how our girls respond. We’re just chugging along. Yesterday was a really fun game and today was as well. It’s good to have some really good competition.”
The Panthers served early notice that this was not going to be a cakewalk when – with a pair on board – cleanup batter Gigi Demito emptied the bases with a three-run blast to center field.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Hatters put a run on the board when Kayla Tauber, who led off the inning with a bunt single, scored on Abby Waeltz’s fly ball to center. With two outs in the fifth, Mackenzie Clee hit a solo shot to center field to put the Panthers on top 4-1.
In the bottom of the inning, Tauber’s single plated Alyssa Tooley, who led off the inning with a single, and it was a 4-2 game. That set the stage for the six-run sixth. Waeltz tripled to left to lead off the inning and scored on Marissa Rapino’s sacrifice fly. Tooley followed with a double, and then Megan Mills singled.
A Panther miscue allowed another run to cross the plate, and then it was Tess Kearney delivering a two-run single. Tauber followed with an RBI single, and capping the inning was an RBI double by Amya Lundy.
“Their pitcher had us on our heels for most of the game,” Krier said of Mackenzie Clee. “We had runners in scoring position and just couldn’t knock them in, so give William Tennent and their players a ton of credit – they came in and they were ready to play, for sure.”
Tauber’s 3-for-4 day at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored led the Hatters.
“Kayla came up in big ways,” Krier said. “We put Kendal (Leitner) at shortstop, and Kayla played second base for us, and she made some really great plays on bunts covering first.
“Kayla has been the rock behind the scenes, doing small things that don’t get a lot of attention. I was real happy to see her come up with some big hits and some big plays. It was a good day for her.”
Tooley was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, and she also earned the complete game win in the circle, allowing three hits and four runs while striking out six and walking one.
“She showed some real maturity today,” Krier said. “She gave up a three-run home run in the first and then struck out the next two batters.
“We got a run, and they responded with a solo shot, and again, she settled in. She had some great plays defensively from the mound, and hitting-wise, she was the spark in the middle innings and again in the bottom of the sixth. She had a really great day.”
For the Panthers, Clee was 1-for-2 with a home run, RBI and two runs scored from the leadoff spot. Demito was 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored.
Tuesday’s game marked the beginning of a wild stretch of games for the Hatters.
“In the next two-and-a-half weeks, we have 10 games and two practices,” Krier said. “So we have four games this week, four games next week and then games Monday and Tuesday of the next week.
“Wissahickon is another division game on Thursday, and we want Kendal (Leitner) to be fresh for that game and also give Alyssa Tooley some time.”
Hatboro-Horsham (12-0, 5-0 SOL) will host Wissahickon on Thursday, and William Tennent (5-4, 3-0) will host Cheltenham on Thursday.

Kennedie Ruth earned the win in the circle and also was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, which included a two-run home run in the seventh inning. The junior hurler threw the first four innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out five.
Mia Barone threw three shutout innings in relief of Ruth. The senior pitcher did not allow a hit and struck out three. The Redskins played flawless defense for seven innings.
Kylee Jones put the Redskins on the board in the top of the first with a line drive double to left that plated Kylie Siwek, who opened the game with a single.
The Patriots knotted the score in the bottom of the inning, thanks to an Elise Waddington single.
A four-run third inning was highlighted by Danielle Monaco’s two-run single that plated Siwek and Jones. Ruth also had an RBI single in the inning.
Monaco was 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Siwek and Jones were both 2-for-4. The Redskins also benefitted from five walks on the day.
Senior Soleil Dooner absorbed the loss, allowing five runs on five hits over three innings, striking out a pair. Alexandra Frenia threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 13, COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 8
The Titans fell behind early and still trailed by one heading into the fifth inning when they exploded for seven runs to seize control of Tuesday’s crossover game.
“We came out flat, we had some errors,” South coach Kevin Rosini said. “We weren’t really in sync, but one thing about this group – they’re fighters. They kept the game close, and for the first time really in a long time, we strung a bunch of hits together in that fifth inning, and that was great to see.”
The Golden Hawks opened up a 3-0 lead in the top of the first only to see the Titans answer with three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Hawks duplicated their run production of the first inning with three runs in the second to go on top 6-3, and this time, the Titans answered with one run in the bottom of the inning and pulled to within one with a run in the third.
The two teams exchanged runs in the fourth inning, and the Titans still trailed 7-6 going into the bottom of the fifth when they erupted for seven runs.
Taylor Migliore delivered the inning’s big blow – a three-run home run to right center that gave the Titans a 9-7 lead. It was her first varsity home run.
“Taylor’s hit was huge – the go-ahead three-run homer with two strikes,” Rosini said. “She hit it pretty hard.”
Marlena Hacker followed with a solo home run.
Leading the Titans at the plate was Tori Romain, who was 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Braylee Webb was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a sacrifice bunt. Suzie Williams was 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and three runs scored.
“Those three had big days,” Rosini said.
Maddy Borowski earned the win in relief, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing three hits and two earned runs while striking out 10.
“She struggled a little bit, but she righted the ship and kept the game close,” Rosini said. “Our first pitcher, Delaney (Benjamin), did okay, but our defense really didn’t help her. I just felt like I had to make a move.
“Maddy kept us in it until our bats got going. I was really happy with that because we lost the last three games last week, so for us to win today was nice. We needed it.
“(Rock South coach) John Engelhardt’s got a good team. He’s got some kids that fight hard. He was the coach at (Council Rock) North when we won the district title. He’s a really good coach, and he’s going to have that team going. It was nice to play them today and have a competitive game. It was fun.”
Central Bucks South (11-4, 3-2 SOL) will travel to Souderton Thursday, and Council Rock South (4-9, 0-4) will host Neshaminy on Thursday.

PENNSBURY 11, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0 (6 innings)

On Tuesday, McGonigle tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out seven and walking three to notch her third win in four outings.
“The thing you have to start with is Quinny,” Pennsbury coach Frank McSherry said. “She’s 3-1 and pitching really well, and everybody is contributing.”
