CR South & Pennridge notched wins in SOL softball action Monday.

SOL Patriot Division
COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 9, HARRY S TRUMAN 0
Julia Scannapieco turned in a masterpiece in a rare start in the circle, throwing a complete game no-hitter. The junior pitcher faced just 23 batters, striking out 14 and walking just two. She threw 97 pitches – 62 for strikes.
“This was a Julia Scannapieco day,” Rock South coach Scott Molle said. “Julia took the mound in her third start of the season and made it a memorable one, for sure, throwing a no-hitter and only allowing two base runners total for the game. Jules hit all her spots today and everything was working well for her.
“She works hard each and every day, and every time she has gotten the call to the mound, she has been absolutely incredible for us, and she is a team player and just wants team success. She also had a great day at the plate, netting two RBIs on one hit, but in the first inning, she hit a deep fly ball to left field that Truman’s player made a catch over the fence to save a home run. Credit to her on a fantastic play for them.”
The Golden Hawks scored all the runs Scannapieco would need in the bottom of the first. Helen Woloshyn laid down a bunt single, stole second and scored when Gabby Bloom singled and the Tigers had an error on the play. Grace Stepp’s line single to center plated a run that gave the Hawks an early 2-0 lead.
Rock South added three runs in the third inning and one more in the fifth when Stepp doubled, and her courtesy runner – Molly Gabriele – advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on Scannapieco’s groundout.
The Hawks added a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to earn the win.
Woloshyn was once again a catalyst at the top of the order, finishing 3-for-4 with one run scored. Bloom was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Stepp was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI.
“Helen Woloshyn had another productive day for us at the plate, hitting three singles and had another stolen base,” Molle said. “Gabby Bloom had a great day for us offensively, hitting two singles and had a nice catch in the outfield she got turned around on.
“Paige Brady had her first career varsity hit and RBI in the sixth for us. Paige has had some good practices lately, and we wanted to get her some action to see how she can do, and she hit a first pitch ball to left field to get us another run. Being a freshman, this kid doesn’t let anything bother her and just works so hard for us. So happy to see her have success for us.
“Grace Stepp had another good day for us, grabbing two hits and a walk. She has caught every game and every inning for us and does a great job with our pitchers. One of the biggest positives for us today was we had another game with no errors. Our defense has been really good this year, and the girls continue to make the plays they need to. I couldn’t be prouder of this whole team’s defensive plays.”
Council Rock South (14-1, 11-1 SOL) will travel to Council Rock North on Tuesday, and Harry S Truman (5-12, 2-11) will travel to Neshaminy on Tuesday.

Non-league
PENNRIDGE 8, COATESVILLE 5
A five-run third inning gave the visiting Rams a lead they would not lose for a non-league road win that snapped a seven-game losing streak. It was the Rams first win since losing junior pitcher Averi Dockery to an injury.
“We’ve faced some obvious adversity, so seeing these girls play together as a team for a full team win is what’s remarkable to see,” Pennridge coach Kristyn Marinelli said. “We have a big week ahead of us, so to start of a win like that was great for them and for our team morale moving forward.
“It’s nice to win – it’s that simple, and from a morale standpoint, we needed this win to show the girls they can compete.”
Ryleigh Lilly’s RBI double in the first spotted the Rams a 1-0 lead, but the Red Raiders plated a pair in the second to take a 2-1 lead.
The Rams responded in the top of the third. With one out, Meghan Holberg was hit by a pitch, and back-to-back singles by Lilly and Gabby Hamburger loaded the bases. Payton Keyser’s single plated a run to knot the score. A forceout at home for the inning’s second out threatened to end the Rams’ rally, but they didn’t let that happen. Kylee Hangey followed with a two-run single to left field, and then it was Maddie Finney grounding a single to center that plated two more runs to give the Lady Rams a 6-2 lead.
“We needed them to come up big, and they did – everyone from sophomore to senior up and down the lineup,” Marinelli said. “We’ve been focusing on getting on base as the starter for any inning or the game itself, and that’s what they really succeeded in doing, which was fantastic.”
A sacrifice fly by Holberg upped the Rams’ lead to 7-2 in the fourth. A bases-loaded walk in the fifth brought home the Rams’ final run.
The Red Raiders didn’t go down quietly, scoring a pair in the sixth and one more in the seventh on a solo home run to lead off the inning. Destiny Novashinski retired the next three batters she faced to close out the game and notch the complete game win.
The junior pitcher allowed eight hits and five runs (three earned) while striking out three and walking four.
“She’s got a great opportunity in front of her, and she’s really stepping up in that role, which is great,” Marinelli said.
Leading the Rams’ 12-hit attack was Lilly, who was 3-for-5 with a double and RBI. Also contributing a multiple hit game were Jadyn Gulbinski (2-for-4, 2R) and Hangey (2-for-4, 2 RBIs, R).
With six games remaining in the regular season, the Rams are looking to build on Monday’s win.
“As a first-year head coach, I expected challenges,” Marinelli said. “I think putting the pieces together today was really encouraging because it’s hard not to get discouraged. That’s my job as their big cheerleader, their key motivator to keep them moving even in the face of adversity.
“We focus a lot on – this is a metaphor for life. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for softball and the failures that I faced. Putting it in a greater perspective for them is really my end goal. It’s hard to do, it’s not easy to lose, but that’s what I’ve been trying to do as hard as it is.”
