WISSAHICKON GIRLS’ SOCCER PREVIEW
Coach: Chris McDaniels 6th Season
Assistant coaches: Sean Treacy, Zack Lobasso and Caroline Hassal
Last year’s record:
- SOL 7-7-2
- Overall 7-10-2
- Lost in first round of Districts to Garnet Valley 2-0
Notable losses:
Meredith Blight
Julia D’Aquanno
Lucy Greenstein (playing at Shenandoah University)
Emily Kim
Ryan Matt
Lannah Werynski (playing at Shippensburg University)
Key returners:
–Olivia Lore – GK
–Ellie Stein – CB
Olivia and Ellie will anchor a backline with some younger players as they acclimate to the speed at the varsity level. I have confidence that we’ll improve every time out.
–Emma Greenberg – F/W
Emma will be one of our main offensive targets. She has size and pace that should be difficult for defenders to contain.
–Sophia Yeh – M/D
Sophia will fill gaps in the back and the midfield as needs arise. It will be nice to have her versatility.
Others to watch:
–Lila Marciniak showed a lot of growth last year as a ninth grader and arrived at preseason with a confidence to take players on and create.
–Lainey Werynski will split time in the central midfield and on the back line. Lainey’s ability to possess and distribute should help us in possession.
Outlook: “After a slow start in 2024, we are hoping to learn from that start and begin the season with a sense of urgency. We plan on taking it one game at a time and hopefully that lands us competing for a playoff spot come October.”
