The Pennridge High School Boy’s Basketball team has not won a conference championship since 1945 and last time they did win the school was not even called Pennridge it was called Sell-Perk.
Pennridge was playing their archrivals Quakertown at Quakertown’s home court on Friday February 11th and they were predicted to win but the whole game was controlled by Quakertown. In the last quarter the score went back and forth and Pennridge was losing 47-44 with about 8 seconds to go. Senior Mike Guldin brought the ball over half court and threw up a three that went in but unfortunately Coach Dean Behrens called a timeout to set up a play. The Rams came back on the court after the timeout and set up Junior Tim Abruzzo who threw the ball up with 3.4 seconds to play tying the game. Then after a timeout from Pennridge just when overtime looked likely Quakertown attempted a full court inbounds pass that was intercepted by senior Kyle Peters. Peters took a few dribbles and shot the ball from the three point line, than the unbelievable happened. Peters’ shot went in, winning the game for Pennridge 50-47. Peters has NEVER made a 3 pointer out of all 4 years that he has played for Pennridge. This gave Pennridge the win and their first conference title in 66 years.
