BASEBALL
Senior Chris Barr (North Penn) was 3-for-4 with a double, stolen base and three runs scored in RIT’s 9-7 win over Rensselaer in game one of a doubleheader split Saturday. With the win, RIT clinched its first Liberty League playoff berth since joining the league in 2012.
Barr was named to the Liberty League’s All-Academic team. To be recognized, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20. Barr is majoring in civil engineering technology.
Kutztown University senior Brandon Martinez (North Penn) was one of 12 winners of the 2015 Chambliss Student Academic Achievement Award that was presented at a formal reception on Friday. He was one of four copper honorees. The Chambliss Student Academic Achievement Awards were established through a generous gift provided by Dr. Carlson R. Chambliss, who served as a member of the Kutztown University faculty from 1970 until 2003. The purpose of the awards is to recognize the exceptional individual achievements of a select group of senior students as their careers at Kutztown draw to a close.
A business administration major with a 3.83 GPA, Martinez has racked up numerous awards on and off the field during his four years. Last season as a junior when Kutztown won the PSAC Championship, he became KU baseball’s first ever selection to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team. It is the highest academic honor a student-athlete can achieve. He also was named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District 2 First Team and the PSAC Spring Top 10. On the field, Martinez earned All-Atlantic Region Second Team honors from three different publications. He is a seven-time dean’s List honoree, two-time All-PSAC East First Team player, three-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete, and two-time D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award recipient. Last season as a junior, he broke the 31-year-old school record for stolen bases (35) in a season.
Martinez and Clay Sebesky (Central Bucks East) were both 1-for-3 in Kutztown’s 8-1 win over Albright in Monday’s season finale at FirstEnergy Stadium, the home of the Reading Phillies. Sebesky also scored a pair of runs. Bobby Reddick (North Penn) threw two scoreless innings to close out the game, allowing no hits while walking two and striking out three. Matt Matricardi (Upper Dublin) and David Brown (Hatboro-Horsham) each threw a scoreless inning.
Sophomore Cory Capaldi (Souderton) contributed a hit and RBI in Pace University’s 4-1 win over Le Moyne in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader sweep. With the wins, Pace claimed the NE-10 Southwest number one seed for next week’s Northeast-10 Championship. In Friday’s 3-2 win over LeMoyne, Capaldi was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Pat Fitzgerald (Central Bucks South) was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored and Max German (Council Rock North) was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored in Penn State Abington’s 18-8 win over Lancaster Bible in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader split. Anthony Pletscher (North Penn) was 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored. In the Nittany Lions’ 6-4 loss in game two, Pletscher was 2-for-4.
Lock Haven senior Ryan Henritzy (Council Rock North) was named to the 2015 PSAC East first team. The CR North grad led Lock Haven at the plate, hitting .402 (49-for-122) in 35 games. It was the 13th best average in the league during the regular season. He had 10 doubles, two home runs and drove in 18 runs. Henritzy recorded a .533 slugging percentage and a .425 on-base percentage while also playing superb defense in the outfield. Henritzy finished his career ranked in the all-time top 10 for games started, at-bats, hits, runs scored, doubles and stolen bases.
Craig Lepre (North Penn) contributed a two-run double in Albany’s 11-4 loss to UMass Lowell in game one of a doubleheader split on Saturday.
Sophomore shortstop Conner Crookham (Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs and Casey Saverio (Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored in East Stroudsburg’s 12-4 loss to Millersville in the title game of the PSAC tournament Saturday. For the tournament, Crookham was 10-for-23 with two doubles, three homers, nine RBIs and 10 runs in the number three spot. Saverio was 6-for-21 with three walks, three doubles, a homer, RBI and six runs out of the number two spot. ESU, which needed three wins in last weekend’s four-game series versus Bloomsburg to qualify for the tournament, scored 50 runs in five games – the most in the PSAC Tournament since at least 2003. In Friday’s 11-7 come-from-behind win over Seton Hill, Crookham had a pair of hits, and Saverio hit a solo home run in the first inning. Redshirt sophomore Marty Martens (Central Bucks West) allowed three runs in four innings. In Thursday’s 13-4 win over Slippery Rock, Crookham was 2-for-4 with a home run, RBI and three runs scored. In Wednesday’s 18-11 opening round win over Mercyhurst, Crookham was 3-for-6 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored while Saverio was 2-for-5 with a walk and three runs.
Dan Hinchcliff (North Penn) was 1-for-3 with two runs scored in Catholic University’s 2-1 win over Washington College on Tuesday.
Ben Hauser (Central Bucks East) was 2-for-3 with a double in Northampton’s 8-7 loss to Bergen Community College on Saturday. In Northampton’s 3-2 win in game two of a doubleheader split with Brookdale Community College last Sunday, Hauser was 1-for-2 with an RBI. In Northampton’s 3-2 loss in game one, Hauser was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.
Junior Daniel Chou (Wissahickon) contributed an RBI double in Caltech’s 9-2 loss to Chapman on Tuesday.
Freshman Justin Andrews (Neshaminy) threw a scoreless ninth in Monmouth’s 7-2 win over Siena in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader split. In Tuesday’s 5-2 win over Hofstra, Andrews recorded a four-out save.
Kyle Wenger (Souderton) was 2-for-4 in Delaware Valley’s 7-3 loss to King’s College in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday. In Del Val’s 8-3 loss in the nightcap, Wenger was 1-for-3 with an RBI triple. The Souderton grad, a preseason All-American, finished the year with a .432 batting average and led the team with a .712 slugging percentage, a .517 on-base percentage, 51 hits, 36 runs, 29 RBIs, 22 stolen bases, eight doubles, five triples and five home runs. In Tuesday’s 9-2 win over Valley Forge, Wenger had a pair of hits.
Widener sophomore centerfielder Greg McDonough (Wissahickon) was named to the All-Commonwealth first team. It was his first all-conference nod. He led the Pride with 14 doubles and 33 runs batted in. On the base paths, he was 26-for-26 in stolen base attempts and 24 runs scored. McDonough ranks second on the team with 48 hits. He closed the year with a .336 batting average and started all 41 games for the Pride, recording 143 at-bats.
McDonough contributed an RBI single and his 26th consecutive stolen base in Widener’s 5-1 win over Alvernia on Saturday, setting the stage for a sudden death game. The Pride fell 6-1 to Alvernia in the title game. In Friday’s 13-5 win over Messiah in a consolation round game, McDonough had a bases-clearing double and finished with four RBIs. In Thursday’s 4-2 loss to Alvernia in the opening game of the tournament, McDonough delivered an RBI triple.
Senior Matt Hanson (Central Bucks West) was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI in Moravian’s 3-2 win over Elizabethtown in game one of the best-of-three Landmark Conference semifinal series on Saturday. Freshman Dan Morrin (Central Bucks East) improved to 5-1 on the mound, allowing two runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out five in his fourth complete game of the season. In Elizabethtown’s 7-4 win on Saturday, Hanson was 2-for-4. On Sunday, Moravian defeated Elizabethtown 7-3 to win the series. Hanson, who was playing in his school record 157th career game, drew a walk and scored.
Joey Nieves-Markee (Bensalem) was 2-for-3 in Cairn University’s 11-10 loss to Neumann University on Friday, bringing his batting average for the season to .436. In Thursday’s 10-2 loss to St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn), Nieves-Markee was 4-for-5. It was his 15th multiple-hit game of the season and fourth game with four hits. He also leads the team in on-base percentage with a .522. In Wednesday’s 14-4 loss over Lancaster Bible College, Nieves-Markee was 3-for-4.
Robert Slagle III (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed an RBI single in Chestnut Hill’s 6-2 loss to Division I The United States Naval Academy on Sunday. In Saturday’s 6-4 win over Felician College in the opening round game of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament, Slagle was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored. Brandon DiBona (William Tennent) singled and scored a run. In Wednesday’s 7-6 non-league loss to University of the Sciences, freshman Patrick Kelley (Central Bucks West) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. DiBona scored twice. In Tuesday’s 12-4 non-conference win over Philadelphia University, Patrick Campion (Norristown) was 3-for-5 with a triple, RBI, stolen base and three runs scored. Austin DiBonaventure (Plymouth Whitemarsh) tripled and drove in a pair of runs. Kelly threw a scoreless inning in relief.
West Chester shortstop Dylan Tice (Pennridge) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Year and also earned a spot on the first team. The Pennridge grad, a Tino Martinez Award semifinalist which is handed out to the Division II national player of the year, hit .450 in the regular season (58-for-129) with 15 doubles, five triples and nine home runs while striking out just twice in 163 plate appearances. Tice also scored 53 runs on the year. He boasted an .853 slugging percentage and a .564 on-base percentage offensively and only made 12 errors in the field (.930 fielding percentage). Tice is the fifth Golden Ram to win player of the year in the conference and the first since 2012.
West Chester sophomore rightfielder Robert Knox (Upper Moreland) earned PSAC Eastern Division second team honors. It is his first appearance on the all-league team after a year during which he hit .318 in 34 games (35-for-110), which included four doubles and one home run and 20 runs batted in. He made just two errors in right field and registered two assists. He scored 19 runs on the year.
Tice went 1-for-2, hitting a double and scoring a run, in West Chester’s 14-2 loss to Mercyhurst Thursday. The loss eliminated the Rams from the PSAC Tournament.
Junior David Blount (Harry S Truman) had two of his team’s seven hits in Gwynedd Mercy’s 4-1 loss to Swarthmore on Monday.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Washington College junior Dave Knox (Central Bucks South) was named MVP of the men’s
basketball team at the school’s annual athletic awards ceremony Thursday. Senior Connor Silhanek (North Penn) was named the most improved player.
East Stroudsburg senior Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named the Co-Men’s Senior Athlete of the Year. The PW grade helped the men’s basketball program to 91 wins in their four seasons, four straight PSAC Final Fours, three PSAC East regular season titles, three NCAA Division II Tournaments and two PSAC championships in 2012 and 2014. He is the second three-time All-American in program history, a three-time All-PSAC East first team and three-time All-Region selection and the 2013 PSAC East Athlete of the Year. He ranks second at ESU in career points (1860), fifth in assists (349), third in steals (197) and set a school record and ranks in the top 10 in PSAC history in three-pointers (268). He led ESU in scoring four straight seasons.
WOMEN’S CREW
RIT junior Laura Alderfer (Pennridge) was named to the Liberty League’s All-Academic team. To be recognized, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20. The Pennridge grad is majoring in biomedical engineering.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington junior Nick Volpe (William Tennent) won the Fred Striet Memorial Award presented to a student-athlete who demonstrates the “leadership and character, pride in academics, and growth and perfection through sports.” The Fred Striet Memorial Award, which was presented at the school’s annual athletic banquet last Monday, was established in 1993 to honor Fred Striet, a Penn State Ogontz varsity baseball player. Fred pitched the only perfect game in Penn State Ogontz baseball history. His collegiate athletic career was cut short when he died in a car accident returning home from University Park in 1992.
Junior Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East) was recognized as the Outstanding Male Student-Athlete at Penn State Abington’s annual athletic banquet last Monday. The CB East grad was named the league’s Runner of the Year and earned first team honors.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Senior Garret Rosiek (Wissahickon) contributed a goal and two assists in Aurora University’s 14-11 win over Concordia in Saturday’s Midwest Lacrosse Conference Championship. The win marked the third consecutive MLC Tournament Championship win for the Spartans. The next action for the Spartans will be in the 2015 NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championships. In Wednesday’s 24-5 semifinal win over Beloit College, Rosiek had two goals and four assists.
Senior Patrick Nolan (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed an assist and one ground ball in No. 16 Cabrini College’s 18-6 win over Marywood in the title game of the Colonial States athletic Conference on Saturday. It was the program’s 15th consecutive crown.
Freshman midfielder Anthony Paone (Central Bucks South) helped the Pride win 13-of-19 face-offs with eight ground balls in Widener’s 9-6 win over Lebanon Valley in a Commonwealth Conference play-in game on Monday.
Joe Palo (Hatboro-Horsham) was 6-for-7 on face-offs in Eastern University’s 22-7 rout of Misericordia in Saturday’s Freedom Conference Championship game. It was the fourth consecutive championship for the Eagles, who earned an automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Tournament.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Junior attacker Carley Kendall (Souderton) scored a pair of goals in Washington College’s 15-8 loss to No. 6 Franklin & Marshall on Saturday in a Centennial Conference semifinal game.
Senior Kimber Kisselback (Neshaminy) recorded a season-high four caused turnovers to go along with five ground balls in Holy Family’s 8-6 win over second-seeded Georgian Court in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship game last Sunday. The win extended the team’s season-long winning streak to a program best 12 games. It was Holy Family’s third championship in four years. The team’s 14 wins ties the program’s record for most victories in a season. Kisselback and Caitlin Carrezola (Neshaminy) were part of a senior class that was 50-21 overall.
Madi Brunk (Cheltenham) scored three times in No. 16 Messiah College’s 11-6 win over rival Stevenson University in the Commonwealth Championship game on Saturday. Brunk was named Most Valuable Player. Becky Ely (Council Rock North) was part of a standout defensive effort. With the win, the Falcons collected their fifth NCAA Tournament qualification under head coach Heather Greer. In Messiah’s 12-2 win over Arcadia University in a weather-shortened semifinal game Thursday, Brunk had four assists.
Lock Haven senior Kelly Hamilton (Central Bucks South) was named to the 2015 PSAC first team. The senior midfielder has 45 goals, 13 assists and 33 draw controls. She has tallied three game-winning goals and has 21 ground balls. This season marks the third year Hamilton has earned All-PSAC honors.
Melinda Wojt (Souderton) had five ground balls and three caused turnovers while leading the defense in No. 1 Lock Haven’s 11-6 win over No. 9 Mercyhurst in Saturday’s PSAC title game. It was Lock Haven’s eighth consecutive conference title. Lock Haven was ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division II South Region rankings. The Lady Eagles will host No. 8 Rollins in an NCAA first round game on Saturday, May 9. In Friday’s 17-5 rout of Seton Hill in a PSAC semifinal game, Hamilton finished with a hat trick and a pair of draw controls.
Eastern University junior Stephanie Hogan (Central Bucks West) received Freedom Conference honorable mention recognition. The CB West grad contributed 24 goals, six assists, 41 ground balls, 30 caused turnovers and 33 draw controls.
SOFTBALL
Susquehanna senior Morgan Lewis (Council Rock South) has been named the Landmark Conference Pitcher of the Year for the second time in her career. She also was named to the All-Landmark Conference first team. The CR South grad, who was also named the Pitcher of the Year in 2013, is tied for the league lead in wins (16) and is second in strikeouts (111) and third in ERA (1.68). She has started 20 of the 22 games in which she has played this season and racked up 122 innings of work. Lewis has 17 complete games to her credit along with four shutouts – including a no-hitter – this season. Opponents are batting just .198 against her. For her career, Lewis has 51 victories, just one shy of the program record of 52, set in 2011. She has pitched more than 483 innings and racked up 392 career strikeouts, third best in program history.
Sophomore designated player Lauren Creamer (Neshaminy) earned first team All-Landmark Conference honors. The Neshaminy grad started 30 of 33 games in which she has played. She is batting .389 with a team-leading 37 hits and 30 RBIs, tied for second best in the conference. Eleven of her hits have gone for extra bases, including four home runs for a .600 slugging percentage. She has struck out just eight times in 95 at-bats.
Lewis scattered three hits, struck out six and walked one in Susquehanna’s 10-1 win over Catholic University in the Landmark Conference Tournament on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 4-1 win over Lycoming, Creamer had a pair of RBIs while Lewis earned the win in the circle.
Emily Hofmann (Pennridge) earned the win in IUP’s 16-7 win over Edinboro on Tuesday, entering the game in relief and throwing 4.1 innings. The Pennridge grad allowed four hits and two runs. In last Monday’s 6-4 win over Gannon, Hofmann earned the complete game win.
Dominique Pinto (Council Rock North) roped a ninth inning home run just over the right field fence to give the University of Connecticut a 4-2 walk-off win over UMass on Thursday. Pinto’s fifth career round tripper, all of which have come this season, came with the game-winning run in scoring position and one out. In Wednesday’s 5-4 loss to Quinnipiac, Pinto contributed an RBI single.
Marywood freshman Brooke Labs (Pennridge) was named to the All-Colonial States Athletic Conference first team. The Pennridge grad led the team with a .440 batting average. She had 21 doubles, three triples and 24 RBIs and boasted a slugging percentage of .670 and an on-base percentage of .512.
Labs was 1-for-3 with two RBIs in Marywood’s 5-4 loss to Immaculata in a CSAC first round game on Wednesday.
Gwynedd Mercy junior MaryKate Ballerino (Hatboro-Horsham) was named to the 2015 Colonial States Athletic Conference first team as a utility player. The H-H grade led the team in average (.407), hits (43), extra base hits (15), RBIs (27) and stolen bases (14). Her seven triples led the CSAC and 14 steals ranked her third.
Gwynedd Mercy sophomore Nikki Canfield (Souderton) earned second team All-CSAC honors. The Souderton grad set career highs in almost every offensive category. She batted .340 with 25 runs, 20 RBIs, six doubles, three triples and two home runs.
Ballerino was 2-for-5 with three runs scored and a stolen base in Gwynedd Mercy’s 14-8 win over Centenary in a CSAC Tournament first round game on Wednesday.
Freshman Rachel Hyman (Upper Dublin) had two hits in Ursinus College’s 6-5 win over Immaculata in game one of a doubleheader sweep last Monday. In Ursinus College’s 4-1 win in game two, senior Ellen Goldstein Central Bucks West) had an RBI single.
Senior Julie Wambold (Hatboro-Horsham) singled and scored in Syracuse’s 7-3 rout of Virginia Tech last Sunday.
Junior Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) belted a three-run home run in the first inning of Lehigh’s 8-1 win over Colgate in Sunday’s regular season finale. The home run was her fourth of the season. Lehigh will host the Patriot League Tournament that begins Thursday and will play No. 4 Army in game one at noon. In Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Colgate, Decker was 2-for-6 with three RBIs and a run scored. In last Sunday’s 3-0 win over Army, Decker was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Shippensburg University senior Liz Parkins (Souderton) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 27 after recording a pair of conference victories, which included a five-inning no-hitter. SU won all four contests in which Parkins appeared during the week. Among the highlights was a complete game victory over Kutztown in which she allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out six. On the final day of SU’s season, Parkins tossed a five-inning no-hitter at Mansfield. She struck out six and did not allow a walk. It was her first no-hitter of any variety in college.
D’Anna Devine (Pennsbury) had a hit, a walk and two stolen bases in USF’s 2-0 loss to Memphis last Sunday.
Kelly Hendrickson (William Tennent) picked up wins in both games of Cairn University’s doubleheader sweep of Baptist Bible College last Monday (12-3, 11-2), allowing just two earned runs in the games combined. She also had three RBIs in the 12-3 win in game one.
West Chester junior Laura Altenburger (Neshaminy) was named the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Year. Even though she was named athlete of the year, The Neshaminy grad was a second team pick at third base after hitting .316 (48-for-152) with six doubles, two triples and seven home runs while knocking in 33 runs. She is just the second West Chester player to earn athlete of the year accolades. She ranked sixth in the PSAC in RBIs and registered 14 multiple-hit games and nine multiple-RBI games. The two-time all-league selection authored a seven-game hitting streak during the year and reached base safely in 14 straight. She hit .377 with runners in scoring position and .571 with the bases loaded (4-for-7). Altenburger made just 10 errors in 179 chances (.944) while manning the hot corner for the Golden Rams.
West Chester sophomore shortstop Sarah Derstine (Souderton) enjoyed a breakout year in her first season as a starter and was named to the PSAC Eastern Division first team. She hit .329 (51-for-155) with seven doubles, three triples and four home runs in her first appearance on the all-league squad. She knocked in 31 runs and scored 37. Derstine made just 12 errors in the field (.944). She ranks fourth in the PSAC in runs scored (37) and is tied for seventh in hits (51). She ranks ninth in RBIs (31), third in at-bats (155) and registered 16 multiple-hit games and six multiple-RBI games. She also had a five-game hitting streak during the year and reached base safely in eight straight. Derstine hit .302 with runners in scoring position and .550 with a runner at third and less than two outs.
West Chester senior outfielder Ali Vavala (Central Bucks East) also was named to the PSAC Eastern Division first team. The CB East grad appears on the all-league list for the first time. She led the squad in hitting with a .396 batting average. The left-handed slapper scored 24 runs, posted a .440 on-base percentage and stole 10 bases in 13 attempts. She finished with seven doubles and a triple.
Senior catcher Lauren Quense (Neshaminy) also is a first time all-league honoree for the
Golden Rams in her final season behind the plate. She set the school record for throwing out the most base stealers in a career (34) earlier this spring. She committed three errors and allowed just three passed balls. Offensively, Quense hit .288 with two doubles and five home runs.
Altenburger was 1-for-2 with a walk in No. 25 West Chester’s 6-0 loss to California (Pa.) in the PSAC semifinals on Saturday. In Thursday’s 9-1 win over Seton Hill, Altenburger’s two-run double with one out in the bottom of the sixth brought an early end to the game. Quense added her sixth home run of the season in the fourth. In Thursday’s 6-5 win in nine innings over IUP, Quense singled in the tying run. Altenburger went 2-for-5 at the plate.
Freshman Nikki Alden (William Tennent) was 2-for-5 with one RBI and run scored in St. Joe’s 5-3 win over La Salle in eight innings on Saturday.
Widener sophomore Ally Horvath (Central Bucks South) earned first team All-Commonwealth honors. The CB South grad ranks second on the team with a .404 batting average. She has a team-leading 89 at-bats. Horvath leads the team with 11 stolen bases and is tied for the lead in runs scored with 25 and 36 hits. She holds a .539 slugging percentage with two doubles, two triples and two home runs.
Horvath was 3-for-4 in Widener’s 4-3 come-from-behind win over fourth-seeded Lebanon Valley in Saturday’s Commonwealth Conference semifinal game. In Friday’s 4-0 win over Stevenson in an opening round game of the conference championships, Horvath was 2-for-3.
Millersville senior centerfielder Stephanie Kulp (North Penn) earned a spot on the PSAC Eastern Division second team. She is the first Marauder centerfielder since 2007 to earn all-conference recognition. Kulp finished 2015 with a .957 fielding percentage and committed just two errors after starting all 45 games at the middle outfield spot. She didn’t commit her first error of the season until game No. 38 at Shippensburg on April 17. The North Penn grad was tied for second in the PSAC in triples with four, and that number is also tied for fifth in a single season in program history. She finished her career with five three-base hits, which is also tied for fifth in Millersville’s record books. In 2015, Kulp was first among the team’s outfielders in assists with seven to go with 26 hits, eight runs scored, two doubles, two RBIs, 36 total bases and four sacrifice hits. At one point in the season, Kulp had a seven-game hitting streak and went 9-for-21 (.429) with a run scored, an RBI, one double and one triple.
Bloomsburg freshman Emily Mayhew (Pennridge) was named to the All-PSAC East first team. The Pennridge grad earned one of the outfield spots. In 37 games so far this season, Mayhew is batting .309 with five homers and 20 RBIs. She also scored 22 runs and hit six doubles. She has nine multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games. Earlier this season, she was named the PSAC East Athlete of the Week after hitting .469 (15-for-32) with four homers, 11 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .969 and on-base percentage of .500 in a 10-game stretch. Mayhew hit well in clutch situations. In game one of a doubleheader against Shippensburg on April 13, her solo homer tied the game in the sixth inning with the Huskies going on to win 3-1. Later in the week, she helped the Huskies to a split with West Chester when she doubled home the go-ahead run in a 5-3 win. She wrapped up the week with a grand slam and a combined six RBIs in a sweep of ESU. In the field, she was perfect on 14 chances.
Mayhew had a two-run homer in Bloomsburg’s 5-3 win over Seton Hill in an elimination game of the PSAC tournament on Friday. In Thursday’s 10-3 win over East Stroudsburg, Mayhew had two hits, including an RBI double.
Junior Lauren Klepchick (Central Bucks South) doubled and scored a run in Rhode Island’s 7-4 win over St. Bonaventure last Sunday. She also recorded four assists in the field to move into fifth place in program history with 226 career assists.
Penn State Abington freshman Whitney DeLagol (William Tennent) was named to the 2015 North Eastern Conference South Division all-conference second team. The Tennent grad batted .396 on the season in 91 plate appearances with a team high 10 doubles. Overall, DeLagol smacked 36 hits and collected 19 RBIs.
DeLagol smacked a two-run home run to center field in Penn State Abington’s 8-2 win over Wilson College on Saturday to advance to Sunday in the NEAC Tournament. In Saturday’s 11-5 win over SUNY Poly in an elimination game, Emily Wrenn (Hatboro-Horsham) picked up the win, allowing no runs and five hits in four innings of work. Danielle Jones (Harry S Truman) was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored while DeLagol was 2-for-4 with a double, home run, RBI and two runs scored. Bianca Monterosso (Abington) was 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Nicole Battaglio (Upper Merion) was 1-for-3 with one RBI. In Friday’s 6-1 opening round win over SUNY Cobleskill, Jones tripled and scored a run while DeLagol was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Wrenn picked up her seventh win of the season, scattering six hits and allowing just one run in the complete game win.
Sophomore Suzanne Swanicke (Pennsbury) singled and scored in La Salle’s 3-1 loss to Dayton in the regular season finale on Sunday. Despite the loss, the Explorers have qualified for the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the second straight season. In Saturday’s doubleheader sweep at the hands of Dayton, sophomore Christina Bascara (Pennsbury) and junior Erica Reis (Central Bucks East) each recorded two RBIs.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Washington College sophomore Megan Obarowsi (Council Rock South) was named the swimming team’s most improved swimmer at the school’s annual athletic awards ceremony Thursday.

Penn State Abington freshman Mohammed Ammouni (Bensalem) was named the Male Rookie of the Year at the school’s annual athletic banquet last Monday.

Penn State Abington freshman Amanda Shulski (Neshaminy) was named to the NEAC West all-conference second team at No. 2 singles. She also earned first team status with her doubles partner, Janie Saile.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Johns Hopkins senior Michael Spadaro (Council Rock South) won the decathlon at the Centennial Conference Championship. The CR South grad tallied 6273 points, winning eight of the 10 events en route to a first place finish. Spadaro finished third in the long jump with a mark of 6.71 meters. He also finished third in the triple jump (44'-11.75").
IUP freshman Austin Cooper (Upper Merion) took home the individual title in the 1500 meters at the 2015 PSAC Championships on Saturday afternoon, finishing with a time of 3:55.45. The true freshman finished with 18 individual points on the weekend, helping the men to an eighth place finish out of 14 teams with 45 total points. On Friday, Cooper finished second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.05, which was just 0.17 off the pace. Jalen Coriano-Nix (Cheltenham) was part of the fifth place 4×100 relay team that posted a time of 42.04.
RIT senior Andrew Bernardo (Central Bucks South) was named to the Liberty League’s All-Academic team. To be recognized, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20. Bernardo is majoring in new media design and imaging.
Shawn Young (Central Bucks West) was part of West Chester’s 4×400 relay team that finished second at the 2015 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, crossing the line in 3:15.86.
St. Joe’s senior Matthew McGarvey (Central Bucks West) finished third in the 800m run with a time of 1:52.19 at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. The men’s team finished sixth out of 11 teams.
Matt Bee (Central Bucks West) and Dan Dreeman (Council Rock South) were part of Shippensburg’s 4×800 relay team that broke the PSAC Championships meet record with a victorious time of 7:41.44 at the 2015 PSAC Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. Freshman Alec Balla (Quakertown) just missed a place on the awards podium with a ninth place time of 15:17.59 in the 5K. On Friday, Dreeman place fourth in the 800m run with a time of 1:53.96. On Thursday, Balla set a lifetime best in the heptathlon, finishing fourth in the 10K with a new PR of 31:42.39, 45 seconds aster than his previous PR. Sophomore Alec Brand (Central Bucks East) finished 13th in 33:21.77.
Ron Smith (Neshaminy) was part of Kutztown’s 4×400 relay that finished fourth with a time of 3:18.77 at the 2015 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. He also was part of the seventh place 4×100 relay (42.41). Brandon Raguz (Central Bucks South) placed fifth in the pole vault with a season best mark (15-3.5). On Friday, Chris Varichione (Quakertown) tossed the sixth best hammer throw in school history, finishing ninth with a career best throw of 169-4 (51.62m). He finished 18th in the shot put with a throw of 42-9.5 (13.04m).
James Wilson (Central Bucks South) was part of Bloomsburg’s ninth place 4×800 relay team that posted a time of 8:07.10 at the 2015 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
East Stroudsburg junior Eric Conard (Souderton) won the men’s decathlon at the 2015 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. He is one of four ESU men who have combined for five PSAC championships in the decathlon. Conard scored 6,209 points, a 230-point PR and an NCAA provisional qualifying score. He set PR’s in four events – two on Friday (long jump – 19-11 ½ and high jump – 5-7 ¼) and two on Saturday (110m hurdles – 15.94 and pole vault – 14-5 ¼). Conard was eighth after the first day of competition but gained huge ground in the eighth and ninth events. He had the field’s top mark in both the pole vault (14-5 ¼) where he improved his PR by almost 14 inches, and javelin (171-11). His final margin of victory was 117 points. Conard entered seeded third on the entry list (5743 points). Sean Hagerty (Pennridge) finished 15th in the long jump (21-2 ¾).
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

Messiah sophomore Natalie Ross (Souderton) and senior Leah Novak (Souderton) finished third and fourth, respectively in the steeplechase at the MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. Ross earned first team All-MAC honors while Novak earned second team honors in the event. Senior Tiffany Burrows (Quakertown) was part of the second place 4×400 relay that posted a time of 4:01.40, earning first team All-MAC honors. Burrows finished sixth in the 400m dash, earning first team all-conference honors. She also was part of the 4×100 relay that posted a time of 53.09. The relay team earned second team all-conference honors.
St. Joe’s senior Kayla Charles (North Penn) destroyed the school’s record in the heptathlon at the 2015 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend, scoring 4,563 points for a third place, six-point finish. Charles won the 100H (collegiate best 14.31) and long jump (5.42m) and placed second in the high jump (collegiate best 1.58m), 200m (collegiate best 25.91) and 800m (2:22.69) en route to the outstanding performance. Charles bettered the original school record, set by Gina Bundy in 2001, by 267 points.
Ursinus College sophomores Erin Farrell (Neshaminy) and Chloe Johnson-Hyde (North Penn) both ran under 13 in the 100 for the first time in their careers to advance to the finals at the 2015 Centennial Conference Track and Field Championships this weekend.
Freshman Lindsay Sheehan (Pennridge) was part of Shippensburg’s 4x400m relay team that won a league title with a season PR of 3:49.03 at the 2015 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday. Sophomore Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) was part of the first place 4x800m relay that posted a time of 9:25.69 – 17 seconds faster than any other SU 4×8 relay this season. The relay won by almost eight full seconds.
Temple sophomore Sydnee Jacques (North Penn) set a personal best in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.65 at the Princeton Open on Saturday. Louise Huuki (Central Bucks East) set a personal best in the 1500m run with a time of 5:12.50. Megan Schneider (Hatboro-Horsham) earned a personal best time of 10:51.66 in the 3000m run.
Moravian freshman Beth Ann Davies (Quakertown) was second in the pole vault with a height of 2.89 meters (9-5.75) at the 2015 Landmark Conference Championships on Saturday. Sophomore Lauren Suelke (Quakertown) was the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 5.10 meters (16-8.75). Sophomore Sarah Hughes (Souderton) was seventh in the 1500m run with a time of 4:53.29.
Bloomsburg senior Kate Dodds (Upper Dublin) captured the 5K title at the 2015 PSAC Championships on Saturday. The UD grad, who won the 10K title a year ago, dropped down to the 5K distance for this year’s championship. The senior posted a time of 17:35.09 to claim the title by more than eight seconds. Dodds also won the PSAC indoor titles in the 3K and 5K events in February. Keelan McDonald (Central Bucks West) finished 13th with a time of 18:57.55. Alexis Rankin (Hatboro-Horsham) was part of the 4×400 relay team that posted a time of 3:58.57 to break the program’s mark of 3:59.77 set back in 1982. Rankin was part of the 4×800 relay team that took sixth in 9:41.16. Tayler Harkins (North Penn) was fifth in the discus event with a throw of 42.23 meters (138’06”). On Friday, Harkins finished 11th in the shot put with a throw of 12.21 meters (40’0.75”). Rankin was 11th in the 800m run with a time of 2:19.94. In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Jessica Quesenberry (Wissahickon) took eighth in 11:46.93.
East Stroudsburg sophomore Kelley Anne Stuetz (Cheltenham) finished eighth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:04.45 at the 2015 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend. Alexis Bell (Norristown) was part of the sixth place 4x100m relay that posted a time of 48.45.
